DONNELLY’S OFFICE Top left-Lauri Mills helps Mr. Donnelly set up the second semester class schedules. Top right-Nancy Hotz waits patiently as Mr. Donnelly peeks into his grade book. Bottom-The office table is always full of books and magazines to indulge the student mind. “I need a pass for second hour.” “Can four of us come in?” “I’m drop- ping art, I want to see my schedule.” “I’ve got problems ...” “Where’s the U. of I. catalog of classes?” “What were my ACT scores?” It’s all right here in the guidance office. The disorganization, clutter, tests, and fun. Students come to the office for personal, class, college or career guidance and just to sit and talk. Mr. Donnelly is there for no one’s benefit but ours-the students at Lone Tree High. Everybody’s welcome if you like close quarters and don’t mind the smell of mice and candy. “I feel very responsible for individ- ual and group counseling. I’m here to help the kids with family, social and academic problems as well as schedule and testing.” reports Mr. Donnelly. He enjoys helping people and con- siders the students very reliable and full of enthusasiam, though it’s not always over schoolwork. u

STUMPING THE STUDENTS IN HARVARD QUIZ Bottom-Mr. Barton offers three choices to this question. Every Wednesday this year in Mr. Barton’s classes took a break from their daily routine for an activity call- ed Harvard Quiz. Harvard Quiz is a game in which the classes divide up into teams and answer questions about current events that have been in the newspaper or on the news. Mr. Barton thinks Harvard Quiz is the biggest bargain of the whole school. He feels it gives his students valuable instruction in that it helps tie in the history in our texts to what goes on today. He hopes the students will real- ize there is more to a newspaper than the comic page, sports page, and the movie ads! Mr. Barton adds that he really enjoys hearing the parents say their children now read the newspaper. 18
