; TU E, ELM 1976 Bicentennial 1776-1976 Lone Tree Comm. School 303 Devoe Street Lone Tree, Iowa 52755 In memory of our superintendent, Mr. V.O. Draheim, who died Christmas Eve, 1975: Mr. Draheim's many efforts to improve our school are symbolized in the new South Wing and gymnasium. We appreciated his continued efforts to make LTHS a better school — and we will miss him. Lone Tree Community School experienced many happenings during the 1975-76 school year; a Keys program for Seniors, playing volleyball in P.E., attending class meetings, gaining new students, losing old ones, boredom in the halls, a Homecoming victory, going to the GREAT assemblies, and shoving in the lunch line. These are just a few of the things that happen in a normal day of school. For you to enjoy and remember, we have captured some of these occurrences in words and pictures. Now they are a part of our everyday life. In years to come, they will be REFLECTIONS of working. 4 6 lunch hours. parties. 8 thinking. 9 entertainers. 10 resting. 11 good times 12 and bad. 13 11 |OOl|OS pue Homecoming 1975 Typical Senior Creativity! Spirit flowed through the halls as an expectation of a Homecoming Victory began at Lone Tree High School. As a start into the exciting festivities, pep was shown by everyone as they became involved in Spirit Week. Gliding streamers flew through the Old Gym as the Sophomores worked energetically against time to complete the Stairway to Heaven decor. On that same brisk, cold evening of September 25, an enthusiastic crowd gathered around a blazing fire to begin an ambitious night of spirited cheers, chants, pep talks and a victory train. Don't forget to milk the cow before you come to school. Over, under, over, under; come on Dallas, do it right! Pete Scott runs for tough yardage against Wapello. Come on, Mr. Grulke, get the beat! Frustration, tension, and excitement were all in- gredients of the Lions' Homecoming game against Wapello. After falling behind, the Lions came back on a long touchdown run by Pete Scott to pull out a victory. Grand March stans the dance for Homecoming 1975. Stairway to Heaven 18 Another Lone Tree Homecoming Queen shines on. The happy royalty leads the Grand March. After the game, the crowd gathered into the auditorium to await the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen, Rus- sell Forbes and Lesa Pearson. Happiness was shown by everyone dur- ing the Grand March. Smiles were ex- changed and hands were shaken by all to congratulate the victorious football team. Homecoming 1975 was special for the Lions because of a well deserved victory. Amid the dirty jerseys, freshly washed hair, and new clothes you could say Homecoming ing was a complete success 19 Homecoming Royalty To cap a successful Homecoming, Russell Forbes crowned Lesa Pearson as the 1975-1976 Homecoming Queen. Taking part in the excitement were Susie Berry, Jon Ronan, Linda Goody and Kevin Bell. Lesa and Russell 20 Susie and Jon Linda and Kevin Kevin and Julie Bob and Linda Lindy and Nancy At the Christmas Dance on Dec- ember 13, Nancy Hartley was crowned Snow Queen by Lindy Miller, the Snow King. Attending them were Julie Morgan, Kevin Bell, Linda Goody and Bob Buline. The night will be remembered for the warm weather which made it seem impossible to be having a Christmas dance. Christmas Dance Royalty 21 The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch was the Fall Play, Gopher Gulch was the town and Sneaky Fitch was the problem. He was disliked by everyone. A great job was displayed by Robert Vrchoticky as he played Sneaky Fitch. Weeks of rehearsal and lots of goofing off went into the play, but finally it went off a hitch. Miss Keasey, the director, had this to say about the play, 1 feel the kids were terrific. We worked well and I feel the end result was very evident of this. The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch will be re- membered as a great play because everyone had fun. in the halls still linger the remains of Sneaky Fitch. To fulfill this goal they: sold cheese and sausage, had a concession stand, a car wash, and a skating party. A high point for the first year class was when they measured their cooking skills by making a Spanish meal. in which the main dish was octopus. The second and third year class also had a Spanish meal which included quisadillas and Mexican cocoa. So, as you can see, Spanish can be nutritional as well as educational. 38 Front Row: Asst. The guys did well against many tough conference foes. Mr. Brower may be quoted as saying, The games could have gone either way. They just unfortunately didn’t go Lone Tree's way. Playing tough, the Lions lost twice in overtime: L-M, 9-6, and Morning Sun, 6-0. Another good game was a loss to Danville--a state playoff team--8-0. The highpoint of the season was a Homecoming victory over Wapello 19-14. The season concluded with Parents’ Night and the selection of John Larew and Pete Scott to second team all- conference. 42 Almost Fellas! Where's my mommy? Good tackle. Let's go boys! Jon gets advice from Coach Showalter. The Lions, a young team, lost alot of close games this season. Their starting line--up consist- ed of 4 juniors and a senior, with a good group of sophomores coming up. They finished the regular season with a 4-13 record. Coach Showalter felt that it was a frustrating year with all the close losses, but said this year should be a valuable stepping stone for next year. 46 Stepping Stone for Next Year Pete shoots high above the crowd. In an interview with Coach Berry, he said that he felt his first year as a wrestling coach went well, and that all involved did a good job. Coach Berry said the two main disappointments were(l) lack of interest and participation by the students, and (2) at times individual squad members suffered mental lapses. Two seniors who deserve commendation for their exceptional determina- tion and pride shown were Kevin Bell and Bob Buline. Bell’s career, shortened by an appendectomy before the conference meet, ended with a 9-1 season record. Next year is still a question mark. Although six starters return, six wieghts still have to be filled. Bell wins again. 48 New Interest and Improvement Shown in Wrestling Mitch clamps on the hold.
