This year's FFA activities have been numerous and diversified. During the summer members went on the sum- mer trip, to livestock judging contests, exhibited at the county and state fairs, helped with the Kiddie's Barnyard and played softball. During the school year, activities included a hog show, contests, fruit and garden seed sales, a hayrack ride, the grain show, National and State Convention and the Sweetheart Dance. Projects that the members had this year ranged from poultry to crops to swine and beef projects. This was a busy and profitable year for the FFA. Rayner, S. Sladek, Mr. Grulke. The Lone Tree High School Band has been involved in several activities throughout the year. Under the direction of Mr. Lynn Grulke, this year's band consists of 27 high school students and 16 junior high. On October 11 the marching band participated in the Iowa Homecoming Parade for the first time in several years. The marching band’performed for each of the Lions' home football games. For the last game of the season, the band pre- sented a special show entitled. This is Your Life. Dr. George Zibilich . Dr. Zibilich was presented a musical portrayal °f hlS The band also provided the music for the Johnson County Bi-Centennial Courthouse Re-dedication on October 20. On December 16. the Concert Band gave their first performance of the year at the Christmas Concert, followed by the Junior High Solo and Ensemble Contest at West Branch on February 15. The band had an active part in the Variety Show on March 7, followed by the High School Small Group Contest at New London on April 18 and 19. in Preparation for Urge Group Contest held at Preston on May 3, the band performed their contest pieces at a Spring Concert on April 29. Rossman. Marie Draheim Among this years contestants who went to Small Group Contest at New London were: at left, Marie Draheim, who cook a flute solo for her fourth time. Also going, were the clarinet trio at top right, who made their hird trip to small groups. On bottom ight is the trombone quartet, who nade their first appearance. Below: Linnet Borg and Dan Hill. Homecoming started traditionally with a bonfire on Thursday night. Friday welcomed a parade full of floats, the band, pets and costumes. But Friday night brought thunder, lightning and rain; a perfect storm. The game was delayed, but as the rain subsided the game was begun. A large crowd watched as the Lions fought a hard but losing battle with Danville. The final score was 20-0 in favor of Danville. Players and spectators alike came inside to watch Kevin Westfall and Deb Larew be crowned Homecoming King and Queen. Rick Slaughter, Lori Watkinson, Dan Hill and Linnet Borg were their attendants. They gym was de- corated in the theme Goodnight America which Enoch Smokey playing for the dance. A large crowd awaited the crowning of the Snow King and Queen. Finally, the disc jockey for the dance, Lee J. Thomas announced Dan Hill as the King, who in turn crowned Wanda Simmons as the Queen.
