The Curious Savage was presented by the Senior Class on April 12, 1973. Denise Larew played the leading role, Ethel P. Savage, a sweet little old lady, whose penchant for doing things such as dying her hair blue, carry- ing around a teddy bear and deciding to become an actress in her advanced years has led her stepchildren, Titus, Samuel and Lily Belle, played by Paul Schomberg, Charles Walker and Terri Hotz, to commit her to The Clois- ters, a private asylum, run by Dr. Emmett, played by Gary Kuhlmann and Miss Willie, Marsha Swanson. There she meets a charming assortment of inmates. Lester Kane, as Hannibal, who thinks his screeching passes for violin playing; Jeff, played by Kyle Chown, who will show no one his imaginary facial scars; Florence, portrayed by Julie Eckhoff, whose doll is her substitute child; Gloria Zibilich as Mrs. Paddy, who hates everything in the world, and Fairy Mae, Terri Ford, a plain girl with delusions of great beauty. The family realizes that it was a mistake to commit Old Mom, when they discover that she has sold con- trolling interest in fifteen Savage industries in order to finance a Memorial Fund, with the sole purpose of giving money to people with foolish dreams. As the money is lost, found, thought destroyed, and found again, Mrs. Sav- age and her new-found friends at The Cloisters lead the rest of the family on a merry chase that more than once borders on chaos. Also instrumental in making the play a success were Dwight Marine, State Manager; Kris Musser, Assistant Director; David Yakish, Stage; Ken Kane, Stage; Jeff Hall, Stage; Colene Grecian, Make-up; Liz Eckhoff and Lisa Slaughter, prompters. Additional help was given by Steve Feldman, Jerry Ford, and Chris Westfall. John Kane's appearance as John Thomas must also be mentioned, although he was not listed in the program, since his role is meant to surprise the audience.
