Beginning as stand-ins, working their way up to bit-players and later to under- studies, and finally starring as seniors, the members of the Class of '58 faced their final curtain and their exit from the stage of school life. As stand-ins in 1955 , they anxiously awaited Freshman Initiation when each of them was costumed as a movie or television star. That same season, many of them enjoyed their first formal Homecoming Dance following the Homecoming Parade in which their float, Well1 Lick Em, won third prize. The following season, as sophomores and bit-players, they decorated the gym for the Homecoming Dance, using the theme All Stars. In addition, several of them appeared as waiters and waitresses at the Junior-Senior Banquet. Then, in 1957 as understudies, they rehearsed busily for the junior class play, Desperate Ambrose. At the close of the season, they honored the senior stars of 57 with an Evening in Paris. The 1958 season was the most active of all. It was their year to initiate the freshmen. Each freshman was made-up to represent a comic strip character. The flu epidemic threatened to halt production of the senior class play, The Woman in Black ; but in true theater spirit, the cast came through with a successful performance. Publication of the yearbook provided the funds for the class trip to Chicago, Illinois, on April 25. As the last performance drew near, the stars attended baccalaureate services in the auditorium on May 25. Commencement exercises were held on May 26, with Phil E. Connell, Assistant to the President of the State University of Iowa, as the speaker. The stars received their diplomas and went on to larger roles on a larger stage.
