These pictures are called symbols. The Indians portray one of the most glorious and splendid eras for periodl of American history, and we are proud to use one of their highest symbols of trust and respect, the Chief, to typify our superintendent, principals, and Board of Trustees. We give you, with all the pride any Indian could have, our Administration. The bow-and-arrow is used to signify, not that any of our teachers use force by any means, but that our faculty is one of courage and bravery, that they guide us through the battleground of our school-life, and that they help us to as- pire for the highest things in life. a Y .af ff' ' aj ,HW 5, 0'-'Fr T'7f, ALLEN KAVANAUCH Superintendent of Schools 1-riwi'-iS--Y --. - 9' Q it- lin-1.-It -.,1' 1 MR. Evans Billie Paul Knife Robert Crenwelge Dorothy Slater Duane Evans Gerald McDonald Kenneth Hare Nikoli, son of Todoro, the ruler of the gypsy tribe of Haaren, having been permitted to acquire a college education on account of his unusual intellectual gifts, retums to the gypsy camp from college with the ambition to become a poet, pub- lish his writings, and marry Clare Clayton, the pretty daughter of a business man, with whom he is infatuated. Todora received the announcement of his sonis intentions with dismay and disgust, for he has long planned that his son shall mar- ry Rosita, a charming gypsy girl, and succeed himself as ruler of the tribe, while Rosita, who has long been in love with Nikoli, is broken-hearted. Todoro's nephew Vario, however, a treacherous schemer, is secretly delighted with Nikoli's determination to relinquish his birthright, and plots to have Nikoli expelled from the tribe in disgrace, so that he may succeed Todoro as ruler himself and marry Rosita. The whole plot, however, is overheard and witnessed by Tom, Nikoli's happy-go-lucky college chum, who secretly re- veals it to Marko, the witty gypsy fortune teller and the cleverest man in the tribe, and the two counterplot together to save Nikoli. Meanwhile, Nikoli, realizing at last that Clare is a cold-hearted gold digger, who cares not a whit for him but only for his prospects of becoming a rich and famous song writer, tums to Rosita, knowing now that he loves her, and finally persuades her to leave the camp with him at midnight. They are not allowed to go far, however, for Marko and Tom expose the plot of Vario, whom Todoro promptly expels from the tribe. The young couple are then reinstated in favor. Clare makes a last effort to win Nikoli back, but she has lost her fascination for him, and he is more than glad to remain with and mle his tribe and marry Rosita. Members of the Senior Class and other guests present this evening: Once again it is time to greet you in behalf of the juniors and bid you welcome on this joyous occasion. The Indian of tradition was a man of few words. To him, man's patterns of discipline and behavior gave evidence of his loyalty and sincerity. Like the Red Man, I shall speak but briefly, yet I trust that you may find in this evening's hospitality sufficient evidence of this high esteem in which we have always held you. And on the eve of your departure, I wish for you the simple joys that any good Indian would wish for his trusted friends. May your canoes be swift and your paths be safe, may your arrows be straight and your victory sure, may the smoke curl always from your pipe of peace, and may the tomahawk of the enemy never be buried in your neck. Members of the junior Class, it is with sincere appreciation that I speak for the Seniors in response to your generous welcome. YVe feel deeply grateful to the juniors and their sponsors for the long hours spent in preparation for this occasion. This banquet shows evidence of the ingenuity, the cooperation, and diligence of those who will be the Seniors in 1952. On behalf of my class I congratulate you on this splendid achievement. YVe are indeed fortu- nate to be your guests. A y -445 It , fxl, 0 'A ' CQ , A' r 05 JA' f , 'A - . - A ' , 'Q ,Nha- K ' . 'X ' 5 A 4 4 J - ' ' if if - ff- g., 1' , M' .
