BDOK- KEEPI G This group of bookkeep- ing students is lcaming to make a Profit and Loss Statement, to make dif- ferent reports, ruling ac- counts, and the different types of transactions. Bookkeeeping is offered to any high school stu- dent, and anyone expect- ing to advance in the business world would benefit by taking this course. .Ql- L.. TYPI G The typing students are working toward the com- pletion of their week's typing budget. In this unit, they are working in the legal department, typ- ing contracts, mortgages and wills. Students have an opportunity to develop their knowledge relating to tools, materials, processes, operations, and other Industrial Arts infor- mation useful to home, avo- cational and vocational life. During the school year these students participated in the One-Act Play Contest, Senior Play, Declamation, programs sponsored by the Lions' Club. the Parent-Teachers Associ- ation, and other civic clubs. One project of the speech course was a unit on make- up, where each student studied the character type which he portrayed in the class play. MUSIC Public School Music was offered as an accredited course for thc first time in our school. The course offcrs a study of Theory, Harmony, Vocal Study, Musical Form and Nlusical Literature. The student assistants assume numbers of mechanical duties which are small in themselves, but which would otherwise re- quire the time of the libra- rian. They receive no record- pense in the form of pay or credit. Their only rewards are the experience they gain and the pleasure that comes from serving the school. Coach Nichols was high in his opinion of this yearis team, who lost only to Gaston and Carthage. They were a fine group of boys and showed remarkable team spirit and cooperation throughout the season. As a result, their opponents were mostly AA schools. The Kittens played in one tournament at Longview, placing fourth. The Kittens had a very good team this year and held their own throughout the season.
