OFQ CUOI' It is not our desire in the publication of this volume to offer to the world an imperishable work of literature, but merely to record in a simple and effective manner the deeds of our High School days, so that in future years we maytum these pages and relive those days we spent at Dear London High. Look not upon our work with critical eyes, but become as one of us, that you may the more appreciate the contents of this volume. 1 ri 2?-'Q 2 It fbi? Hs. jfsfory ACT I Timez' 1951 Place: London High School Up goes the Curtain! There arrives on the scene thirty-five boys and girls. Faces are glowing from extra scrubbing, suits are pressed, dresses are fitting just right, and eyes are sparkling mischievously. Each one is eager to play his role in this great drama just beginning in a new school. We settle down eventually to business, with Mrs. Louise Faucette as our home room teacher. Math, English, Health, and History passed on review. Heavens think, are we supposed to learn all this stuff. PPP? Finally came report cards, glee club, holidays, basketball, field day, socials, final exams, and then Good-bye for the summer. The curtain falls on the first act. ACT II Time: One year later Places' The Same Back again! We are proud to be back at London High, thinking we are a band of Wise Actors. The roll is called and several of our former classmates are missing. Also we found that our dearly beloved homeroom teacher was teaching some place else and we ended up with a man as our advisor, Mr. A. C. Humphrey. We worked together feeling we were a little superior to what we were those first days at London High School. Half of our high school career was almost upon us before we realized that time was slipping by so quickly. ACT Ill Time: September 1953 Place: The Same We are now Juniors at last, with Mr. John L. Hairston as our, advisor. Our class has now dwindled to twenty-five members, We decided to get down to business. French has been added to our studies. Bon Jour comment-allez vous, is our way of greeting in the mornings. fWe learned that in our French class under our principal, Mr. T. L. Williamson . 5 Now our attention is turned to This Thing Called Love, the first 3 act play that our class had presented. It passed over very successfully. We also had an interesting trip to the Moorehead Planetarium at the University of North Carolina. fCONT. ON NEXT PAGEJ In the spring of the same year came our Junior-Senior Prom. Class work is almost forgotten as we discuss evening attire, music, decoration, soft lights, and invitations. It's a gala affair. The seniors say that none have been better. The curtain gradually falls, Senior Day arrives and our hearts swell with pride as Hope Hawkins accepts the senior robe on our behalf, the symbol of dignity and know- ledge. Three years down and one more to go. h ACT IV Time: Senior Year Place: The Same The Climax of our goal is almost at hand, but only nineteen are on the scene to witness it. Things take on a more serious aspect. Soon we will dissolve as a class. Where will fate take us in the years to come? This year we are still under the super- vision of Mr. J. L. Hairston. Our first undertaking is the publishing of the first year- book of London High School. Is is fun and work too, but our class seems to know how to tackle the job. Next we tackle our Senior Play, Then we talk of caps, gowns, rings and commencement invitations. The Juniors honored us with a prom the best yet. Commencement day is here and we are bidding all a sad farewell. The curtain falls on the final act, and so ends our drama. Anthonette Hope Hawkins C635 jgfopfecy One Sunday afternoon, when the great Author of the universe was slowly painting the leaves of the trees into beautiful hues of gold and red: and when mother nature was waiting to put them to bed and to throw over them a beautiful blanket of snow, I sat musing. My thoughts were all of the Senior class. I heard a voice, a supematural voice. I recognized it as that of Apollo. Now listen, my classmates, and you shall hear what Apollo said in a tone severeg Many years from now, probably fifty-five, - some now living won't be alive.
