After a week of registration, sunrise breakfast, informal faculty party, orientation picnic, xg and finally the Orientation Banquet with Rev. H. Horner of Detroit bringing the message - Ablde In Me . Tired, but happy after an eventful week, the Freshmen anxiously anticipate their first class and a period of study into which God has led them. . f ALUMNI HOMECDMING Walk Worthy. . . was the theme around L.B.l. during the week-end of November 22-24 when over a hundred graduates returned to enioy the Homecoming activities. The program included a chapel period, missionary film, coffee time, family breakfast and devotions, faculty forum, Chinese dinner, business meeting, Sunday hymn-sing and five precious messages from Rev. George McAlpine, pastor of Oakwood Baptist Church, Toronto. '-'-1'.'.l ln our efforts to walk worthy, may God forgive us if we find our lives fruitless, was one of the speaker's comments. He went on to say that barrenness is a result of disobedience to the Word of God, distrust in God's power, and deceit in God's SeI'VC1nl'S. At the conclusion of the Sunday afternoon service, we left with a burning desire that Christ might have such control over every area of our lives that in days to come we might walk worthy. . . Such were some of the phrases of the Christmas Concert presented this year. The play was written from a Jewish point and portrayed Simeon and his family eagerly looking for the coming of the Messiah. Then upon His arrival with eagerness they worshipped Him. The number in the class presenting the play was small but the Lord was truly with them through it all. Because we 'felt His presence so near, we were assured that through the presentation Jesus Christ was honoured and glorified. Praise His Name! L.B.I. 8. T.S. The graduating class was especially exhorted to strive for maturity in Christ. 1 The special music, presented by the Johnson Sisters Trio, ' made this eventful evening complete. ,gg , - . The picnic was under the sponsorship of the Class of '60 who chose for the theme, Harvest from the land and sea . Nets with paper fish, decorative golden bundles of wheat, and students dressed in native costumes of many lands greeted the school family as they arrived at Pinafore Park in St. Thomas. ? What would a picnic be like without games? As the day was overcast, Will Wills, the sports director for the class, kept most of the well planned games indoors under the pavillion. After many games, a tired faculty and student body were called to supper. fl The day ended as the guest speaker, Alan Macleod an alum- nus of the school, gave a brief message on the harvest that awaits workers across the world. BACCALAUREATE The Baccalaureate service was held on Sunday afternoon June 2, i957 at 4:00 in Central Baptist Church, London. Mr. W. G. Carey played the processional hymn, Fairest Lord Jesus as the Chorale and graduating students entered. The Chorale sang Bach's Jesus, Priceless Treasure and The Heavens Are Telling by L. V. Beethoven. I The speaker for this occasion was the Rev. John E. Boehmer, B.A., Th.M. Rev. Boehmer, the pastor of High Park Baptist Church, Toronto, was certainly well qualified to challenge the graduates of '57 to give their all, without reservation or retreat, in service for their Master. Future pastors, teachers, missionaries, nurses, Christian Edu- cation directors and business men were urged to be faithful in the special task which was before them. As these Christian men and women saw the will of God before them, they were moved to execute the task which He had assigned. They each had a high calling of God and now they were ready to fulfill it. Let none hear you idly saying, There is nothing I can do. While the souls of men are dying, and the Master calls you too. Take the lash He gives you gladly, Let His work your pleasures beg Answer quickly when He calleth, Here am 1, send me, send 1ne. GRADUATION Graduation! The event which the graduating class had been looking forward to for the past three years was here. Excitement had been mounting during the last few months, and then on Tuesday, June 4, l957, Graduation Day was here! Hushed silence fell over the audience as the under- graduates filed in followed by the graduating class. After the preliminaries, the school choir sang The Holy City . The address was given by Rev. William A. Mierop, Th.B., D.D., President of Philadelphia Bible Institute. He pre- sented a very challenging message from John 15. Following the address, the presentation of awards was made by Rev. Frank R. Koksma, M.A. The presentation of the graduating class was made by Rev. Percy H. Harris, B.A., Th.M. Rev. Alden A. Gannett, B.A., Th.M., Th.D., then awarded the diplomas and degrees A dedicatory prayer was made by Dr. Wm. R. Quinn, B.A., M.D., followed by a choral selection and the bene- diction by Rev. Alden A. Gannett. Truly it was a memorable night, not only for those who graduated but also for proud parents and friends who saw fifty-two young men and women finish one stage in their training for the l.ord's service. I llp ll rx' I 3 AEQK :QW .1 J 291 A 1 TRUXTON CLASS OF '58 Say, do you remember the class of 1958? Well, of course you do, they were really a notorious group! For what were they notorious? Well, there were really quite a few things, one of these being they were the Freshman class in 1955. Talk about a bunch of green horns, you lust never saw the beat of them. Something else for which we can remember them was that Spring Picnic in l956 where they dressed the fellows like Roman soldiers and made them wait on tables. J They were also the class responsible for the Graduation Banquet.in l957 for which they chose the theme Mature in Christ . Well, so it went. Now in 1958 the class has diminished till there are only a few of them left. The faculty have decided they had best graduate them now per chance by waiting any longer there wouldn't be enough left to make a graduating class. Would you like to meet this notorious class? Well, here they are! The President of the class was a Young lady named Virginia who Marg't time with Davies. Ann, her sec- retary, was Harrington. Really she was the secretary type. The gal holding the money bag for the class was Norma, usually Camer on the outside than the inside. Frith in this class came one called Marilyn who had bills and bills, but there was really only one Bill who really mattered. Cathie was the gal who took a Birrell at most every subiect, but her specialty was Jim. This class used to have quite a bit of fun! When something really funny happened they went into Cowles and Cowles of laughter, especially one called Jo Ann. Actually our Joyce were more than our Williams since we didn't have too many fel- lows in the class. Oh, there was Walter whose motto seemed to be tease the girls and Leaman alone, and that Foxy fellow called Dick. Then there was a fellow Jim who went around Twin'em all out. We never had much need for a Priest altho' there were lots of plans for Marion done. But then who ever heard of a Pearl that Sparks? Well, we did! We did have one Audrey who wanted Morri-son than anything else - someone else's son that is. And it wasn't Richardson either because she was a girl, Barbara. i Eva n tho' it wasn't easy, people like Riegert Irwin ed their way through school. Then, too, there were people who Hobbs ed along like Jeanne, and people like Norma who always had Kier stead of any fun. -As well as these we have a few other Ruth less characters who caused us to nearly develop a Whitehead, because their names iust didn't co-operate. One of these was Mari Zeran who even when she changed it Dini 'ven help like Zunnebergs did. There they are,- one and all. Now aren't you glad that you met them?' If anyone ever asks you if you have met someone notorious, you can broaden your shoulders, puff out your chest and say YES ! Seriously tho', we have had a wonderful time being part of this class of '58, and we are happy to know that even tho' graduation may separate us, it will only be for a time. 3 L. is 'Q A JI ly xL.1n....i VIRGINIA JEANNE JO ANN ANNE AUDREY DR. Gannett was president of the school. He came to London in the fall of 1954 from Dallas, Texas, where he was a pastor and a teacher in the Dallas Theological Seminary. ln l957 he was led of God to return to this Seminary where he accepted the position of professor of English Bible and Theology. During his time here, Dr. Gannett received his Doctor's degree. The school also saw much progress by the grace of God. L.B.l. received associate membership in the Accrediting Association of Bible Institutes and Bible Colleges, a college-level program was introduced, at the same time the desire for a high spiritual sttandard was maintained, the Stewardship Fellowship Plan for giving to the Lord's work at L.B.I. was enlarged, for the first time a men's dormitory was provided. Because of his gifts for teaching, preaching and administra- tion, Dr. Gannett's life was a rich blessing in every realm of school life. He was greatly loved by faculty and students alike. His life showed forth a daily walk in the Spirit. His ioy in the lord was real and his testimony consistent. Dr. Gannett's faith- fulness in preaching the Word made him to be in much demand as a speaker both in Canada and the United States. It was his desire not only to preach the'Word but to live by the Word. He was an example of what God can d'o with a life yielded to Him. Mrs. Gannett and their four children, Keith, Ronald, Mary Lynn and Stevie also won a real place in our hearts. Yes, we thank God for the Gannetts! KERR, BARBARA 39 Classic Avenue, Toronto,. Ontario.
