SPOR TS Another year at Central, and another set of champions! The 82-83 sports season was definitely a winning one for Central. Such outstanding teams as the Senior Boys ' Basketball received city-wide recognition when they placed first in the City Championships and displayed excellence in skill and effort. The Senior Girls ' Volleyball team won the City Championship, placed second at WOSSA, and went on to compete at OFSAA. The Junior Girls ' Volleyball team was also a winner - taking the City Championship and placing second at WOSSA. Later in the year, the Swim team proved their skill by finishing third in the London Conference Meet. Other teams were prominent at Central for other reason: with the help of the ex-Spartans, our Football and Hockey teams played respectable seasons and showed the promise of future champions. Two grade thirteen girls, Kim Hyatt and Mary Flinn, formed the Senior Girls ' Rowing team and spent early mornings skimming over the Thames. Central produced individual winners too. Debbie Whatmore, a grade thirteen student, received high honours by winning the Fran Wigston Award for her amazing basketball talent. The S.A.A. had a successful year, providing us with activities like the Monte Carlo Night Turn- about. Intramural sports attracted a great deal of people as well, especially the Student Council ' s road hockey tournament. One of the most memorable things about sports at Central is, of course, the fans. Who could forget the sky at the Red Feather Football Game - filled with the bright yellow balloons of the Ghosts? Remember the gang with their instruments cheering us on at those football and basketball games? Think of the number of times you donned your purple and gold and joined in the call Go Ghosts Go! The spirit that Central ' s fans and athletes display is the spirit that breeds champions. That spirit is the reason that, once again, Central is a winning school.
