Scholarship Club We Can Work It Out During the 1971-'72 school year, the Cali- fornia Junior Scholarship Federation worked together to help students with greater academ- ic ability reach their full potential. With Mrs. Joan Araujo and Miss Jackie Johns to lead them , the Federation went on several outings, including a trip to Santa Bar- bara and a visit to an Allan Hancock play, Carmen Lietz served as president with Don Ames as vice- president. Other officers were secretary George Renfroe and treasurer George Polly. This year, LJHS had the first Young Historians Club in its history. Young Historians Wa Back When With the History of Lompoc as a theme, the newly- formed Young Historians Club set out to learn all they could about Lornpoc's past. With Mr, Torn Pickering as an advi- sor, the Historians visited places such as Mount Figueroa and La Purisima Mission, Approximately twenty members formed this active club which was under the leadership of Walter Porr as president, Mark Hall as vice-president and Bret Armstrong serving as secretary. The 1972 Spartan Staff proudly welcomes the Young Historians, a new and active club at LJHS. Officers for the Young Historians were Mark Hall, Walter Porr, Bret Armstrong Ken and David Helm . ,-'ff 1
