Scholarship Club We Can Work It Out During the 1971-'72 school year, the Cali- fornia Junior Scholarship Federation worked together to help students with greater academ- ic ability reach their full potential. With Mrs. Joan Araujo and Miss Jackie Johns to lead them , the Federation went on several outings, including a trip to Santa Bar- bara and a visit to an Allan Hancock play, Carmen Lietz served as president with Don Ames as vice- president. Other officers were secretary George Renfroe and treasurer George Polly. Below: Eighth grade chess players. hess Club Patient People The Chess Club was made possible this year by Mr, Phil Hirschler, who gave up both his home- room and lunch periods to furnish a club for both seventh and eighth graders, The Club entered many tournaments during the year, including the Lompoc Record Chess Tournament, which was won by LJHSer Jeff Pick, They also had a fierce and victorious battle be- tween the Spartan Chess Club and the Vanden- berg Jr, High Chess Club. ' AU., 4 Seventh grade Homeroom Reps H omeroom Reps People Power Progress was the magic word for the Home- room Representatives this past year, They brought on many new changes that helped to make this an interesting and exciting year. Serving as President was Steve Miliate, as- sisted by Vice-presidents Shelly Hamer and Pat Caserez and Secretary Kathy Jakubiak.
