Jr. Ogtimists Graham 's Good Guys During the 1971- '72 school year, the LJHS campus was proud to have a group of students who were constantly trying to help improve the campus, the Junior Optimists. With Mr. Bill Graham as their advisor, the Optimists have been one of the most active or- ganizations at LJHS. They served punch at the Mission Fiesta, guided parents at Back-to School Night, and also took on the hard job of helping control the campus during lunch, James Chandler served as president for the year with Steve Terrones assisting him as vice- president. '7 1 -1 an ' 3 'Z ' 117' Led by the strong hand of Robby Coe and backed up by enthusiastic Steve Miliate, this past school year was really a blast. Below: Eighth grade chess players. hess Club Patient People The Chess Club was made possible this year by Mr, Phil Hirschler, who gave up both his home- room and lunch periods to furnish a club for both seventh and eighth graders, The Club entered many tournaments during the year, including the Lompoc Record Chess Tournament, which was won by LJHSer Jeff Pick, They also had a fierce and victorious battle be- tween the Spartan Chess Club and the Vanden- berg Jr, High Chess Club.
