Introducing The This year the Arimol Staff decided to ROCK 'N ROLL its way through the year — using this as the basic theme for our yearbook. We hope you enjoy yourself as you page through this book of memories, remembering not only the days you spent in school, but also those you spent at the concerts of BRYON ADAMS, BRUCE SPRING- STEEN, ZZ TOP. OZZIE, and RUSH, along with all the others that came and went this past year. Remember, as the years pass, to just keep on JAMM 'N!!! Lomira High School; Lomira, WI To Mr. James Widmer The 1986 Yearbook Staff would like to dedicate this year's Arimol to a person who has generously given of his time and talent during our years at Lomira High. Many times we have seen Jim Widmer with has camera at football games, basketball games, and other school events. He submits his photographs to local papers, which gives much publicity to our Lion Teams. Hopefully, by dedicating our yearbook to him, we can express our appreciation for his great photographs which help to promote the school. FINALLY “Prom was a very exciting time of the year for me, and for the whole court! We had much fun that night and the week before! I'd like to thank all of those who worked so hard mainly those who helped in decorating the gym. I'd especially like to thank Steve for asking me to be Prom Queen. It was an honor that I will never forget. Also, thanks to everyone who made that night alot of fun!! Lisa M. Stucke Prom Queen It was a great privilege for me to have been chosen as King for Prom. I would like to thank Lisa Stucke for accompanying me as Queen for the 1985 Prom Court. It was an experience that 1 will remember for therest of my life. Thanks again! I would like to thank Traci for being my Queen, and everyone who helped out with decorating and all the other events during the week. And, of course, Congrats to the Sen- ior Class for winning the spir- it stick for the 2nd year in a row!!! Jeff Henning Q T U r e a e c n y I would like to thank every- body who participated in the activities during Homecoming Week! I was also glad to see all the school spirit, and to see our class win the Spirit Stick for the second year in a row! I had alot of fun that week, and at the dance. I would especial- ly like to thank Jeff for asking me to be Homecoming Queen. Being Queen was an honor that I will always remember! Thanks again, Tracy M. Lehner 27 28 Pam John Homecoming this year was full of fun and sur- prises for everyone! The week before the dance everyone had a blast dressing up, decorating the halls and lock- ers, going to the pep rally, and of course, at the Pow- der Puff Game!! Spirit Points were counted up all week long, and the Senior Class claimed the Spirit Stick at the Pep Rally Friday afternoon! A Sec- ond-Year win for the class of 1986, but the Junior class put up a good fight — they were only down by 5 points on that final day! Powder Puff Champs! The powder puff game was held on Monday night of homecoming week and it was a great game! The Freshman held up the bottom of the rankings, with the Juniors in third, Sopho- mores in second and the Senior Class took the title for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROLL!!! All the teams did a really great job, as well as the Student Council who organized the entire week!! Thanks to all who participated, the week was a success!! That ain't workin' Born to be wild All She Wants To Do is DANCE! 30 e r f e s t I was King for just one day Winterfest Week 1986, Jan. 13-18, was filled with lots of fun and excitement for everyone! The Friday before the dance was a special treat, since students were excused from classes early, enabling them to participate in cribbage and pin pong tournaments, along with inner-tubing and volleyball. Thad Hanke pegged his way past Mr. Burmeister to take the cribbage championship; Yvonne Nelihsen, our foreign friend, paddled her way to the ping-pong championship; and the Senior Volleyball Team bumped above the rest! The Saturday Night Dance brought even more excitement as the theme song Good-Bye hummed in the background, when Tracy Hoepner and Tony Gindt were announced the reigning couple. Good-Bye Winterfest 1986 really was a lot of fun! I would like to thank everyone who put in so much time and effort to make the week and dance run so smoothly. 1 truely was surprised when they announced the King and Queen. 1 would like to thank everyone who voted for Tony and myself, it is an honor I will never forget. Karen Schart Dean Gitter Badger State R e P s Badger State is a week long event, during which stu- dents selected by the teachers go to Madison to learn more about government and how the state is run, along with giving them a chance to meet new people from all around the state. Two students are chosen from the Theresa area and two from the Lomira area, to participate in both Badger Girls State and Badger Boys State. Those who were first chosen to represent Lomira High were Eugene Holst, Chris Ga- low, Holly Dogs, and Mary Kremer. However, Mary Kremer was unable to attend, as was her alternate. Karen Scharf. So, Lori Muehlius represented the Lomira Area at Badger Girl's State. The other alternates chosen were Tracy Hoepner, Tre- vor Hanke, and Brian Zimmel. Speaking for the group, Chris Galow said, Badger State gave us a chance to learn more about government. It also gave us a chance to be part of a mock government where we wrote our own laws, enforced them, and elected offi- cials to offices in our government. ' L to R: L. Muehlius, E. Holst, H. Dogs, C. This year's Student Council consisted of 65 members under the leadership of officers Mary Kremer, Todd Phillips, Tracy Rademann, and Kari Benedict. Student Council was very successful this year in planning activities for both Homecoming and Winterfest. They also took a positive step for our school by starting a S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving) chapter, which they hope will be a continued program in our school's future. 38 Lion's Pen Jenny Martin Renee Pahnke This years Lion's Pen had two girls; Renee Pahnke — a sophomore, and Jenny Martin — a junior; on the staff. These two managed to put out issues of our school's paper for the students to enjoy. The Business Club has had another busy year at Lomira High. They have sponsored numerous bake sales, along with the annual Volley- ball Tournament between the different clubs and organizations within the school, and they also sell refreshments during the girls basketball games. The Business Club is made up of students who have taken at least one Business Course at Lomira. their advisor is one of Lomira's Business Teachers — Mrs. Gloria Meyer. The Club has done very well this year, and in past years. They come up with some unique ideas for activities. In the past they have been active in the Adopt a Gradpartent program, have held annual Christmas parties, and have done secretary work for the teachers. B u s • 1 n e s s J. Macht B. VanTassel D. This year the club held the annual pizza sale, hosted an AFS weekend in February, and made plans for future Short Term Exchanges. Yvonne Nelihsen, our exchange student this year, is from Liuth, Germany. Yvonne is staying at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Gilbert. Her American sister is Laurie-who is a junior this year. The officers for the 85-86 year have been, President, Nora Burns; Vice President, Tricia Muehlius, and Sec.Treas., Dawn Eilbes. We hope in coming years the interest in AFS expands more than ever. She was born in Lobberich, Germany, a city the size of Fond du Lac. Her hometown is Liuth, which has a population of approximately 2,000. Her family is very small. It is only her parents, herself and one brother living at home. Her brother is now 19 and according to Yvonne VERY CUTE! Back home, Yvonne has two more years of what we refer to as High School. They actually go for 13 years instead of our 12. After she graduates she expects to go to a university. Her High School is private, and Catholic. Classes begin at 8:00 AM and continue till approximately 4:15. Her schedule at school is quite different from ours _ she has different classes every day, with one subject taking up about 3 hours a week. They have lots of study halls during which they can go to the party room to relax and visit with friends. They have certain classes that are required, but they also get to choose some for themselves — although not as many as we do here. Extra-Curricular activities aren't centered around sports so much as they are around clubs like Photo Club. Yvonne has commented that in Germany they take more time to prepare food, rather than eating out of cans all the time! They do have McDonalds but they do not go there since they like to eat with the entire family, and spend that time together. Foods here are much sweeter than they are in Germany. Yvonne doesn't like Cherry Coke in the slightest bit, since it is so very sweet. Dating in Germany is much different than it is here. On a typical evening Yvonne will leave the house at about 10 or 11 o'clock and return home approximately 3:00 or 4:00! They go to more disco type places and these things do not open until 8 or 9, this is why they go out so late. We've really enjoyed having Yvonne visit us, and so has the Howard Gilbert family, who was her host family for the school year. Her American Sister is Laurie Gilbert, who was a junior at Lomira High this school year. Thanks for sharing your world with us Yvonne, hope you've enjoyed spending some time in ours!!! 41 Spanish Club Row 1 (L to R): T. Krueger, K. Mason, P. They have also worked with a program like the AFS program, where Spanich students come over and spend some time in the USA, working with American students enrolled in Spanish classes. Officers for the club this year included Laura Pahnke, President; Laura Gilbert. Vice-President; and Rhonda Welak, Sec Treas. 42 Academic Decathlon (L to R): T Hoepner, T. Phillips. L. Darner. S. Hartman, K. Baumann, T. Hanke, N. Burns; center: L. Michalski, K. Scharf. The Academic Decathlon Team started in Lomira last year. The team is composed of nine students who compete academically rather than in athletics. They take tests in categories such as: Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Math, and English. There are 9 tests in all. and the scores are added up as a team. Actually only 6 of the tests are added into the teams score — the other 3 act as alternates. Those team members who participated both last year and this year were: Karen Scharf. Krista Baumann, Tracy Hoepner. Nora Burns and Liz Darner. You can only participate in this for two years, seeing as it is open only to Juniors and Seniors. We hope that Lomira continues to compete with an Academic Decathlon Team, as it is a team who exercises their minds, rather than their bodies. 43 Forensics Team '86 Row 1: Kathi Mason, D. Leider. C. This year's Forensics Team was very strong, many do not realize all the work that goes into being a member of this team. Students work on selections in many varied areas of speaking. Some of these include: 4 minute speech, Oratory, Story Telling, Poetry, Prose and Solo-Acting, to name a few. The team is coached by Mrs. Karen Daehn and Mrs. Donna Hargens. Not just anyone can be a part of the team, there may be cuts, like on any athletic team, if there are too many people in a certain area. The team is trimmed down to 25 members who go on to perform at the different meets. At each meet a few more are cut from the number of those that go on, until the top performers reach the state level. The only four-year veteran on the Forensics Team this year was Nora Burns. She has gone to the State meet twice in her four years, and has performed in the areas of Story Telling and Solo Acting. 44 National Honor Society The National Honor Society inducted 11 new members in the spring of 1985. They are the best Musicians in the Conference and get together on a chosen Saturday (this year it was Jan. 25) to play various pieces, directed by a guest conductor. This year Lomira sent 20 students to this event; 13 Seniors, 6 Juniors, and 1 sophomore. The 1986 Lomira Stage Band is one of the BEST yet! During the solo-ensemble contest held in Laconia this year, the 20- member band impressed the judge so much that he ranked them a Superior band under all 7 judging catagories! The band went on to perform at the State Contest held at the State's Capitol City on May 3. 53 Flutes and Piccolo Kristin Luedtke L. Better things were expected by the athletes as well as the coaches. As for the future, the two classes that will be Juniors and Sen- iors have each only experienced one loss as JV players. Giving them a record of 12-2. This could be used as an indicator for future success, but as we all know, only time will tell. The only game that the Lions won was a double-overtime victory against Oakfield. The Lions finished the season with a 1-6 conference record. The team chose Hugo Rodriguez as offensive captain, and Gary Miller as defen- sive captain. Members of the All-Conference Team representing Lomira were: Hugo, Rodriguez 2nd Team at Linebacker and Running Back. Gary Miller received Honorable Mention at De- fensive End. Gary Miller was voted as MVP for 1985 by the rest of the team. 64 Row 1: L to R: J. Waas, R. Pentland, D. Schweiger, S. Martin, N. Luedtke, K. Zitlow, S. Bernhard, Row 2: D. Volbright, J. Hichken, T. The only loss was suffered in an overtime defeat by Marke- san 18-12. The young JV's show great prospective for a strong Varsity team next year. 65 The Freshman Football Team was composed of twenty- two members this school year. They were coached by Mr. Zelensky, and Mr. Hemaur. Managers for the team were Jason Gerlack and Craig Maxwell. We hope that all of these members will extend their efforts and continue to play football for Lomira through their next 3 years. They have great potential, let's hope they really reach for the best!! 66 Junior Varsity Row 1, Back to Front: L. Tighe, B. Reimer, C. Schroades, L. Arthur, L. Frederick, M. Luedtke, T. Krueger, P. She was also a Conference Honorable Mention while Kathi was se- lected to the 2nd Team All-Conference. The team ended the season with a Con- ference record of 3-4 and 3rd place. Their overall record was 8-5. We had fun playing together as a team. It was an honor to be chosen as team captain which was voted on by the team members. We were a talented group of athletes and strong competitors - it is unfortunate that we didn't use our po- tential to the fullest extent! — Karen Seharf The highlight of the season for me was getting 2nd place in the Elkhart Lake Tournament. We stuck together, even though the situation was grim, and came home winners. As the editor of the yearbook, I would like to wish the best of luck to future editors, and to future staffs as well. I hope that more students become involved in the process of putting the yearbook together, as it is a very big job and requires many responsible and dedicated students in order to have a better book each year. The job cannot be done by just two or three people, but instead takes the cooperation of the students, as well as the faculty. Many people think it is simple to piece together a yearbook, such as our Arimol. I challenge those people to become an active part of the Arimol Staff. As a graduating senior, I would like to wish the best of luck to my fellow classmates. We have shared both tears of happiness and tears of sorrow throughout our years at LHS. I hope that we will all go on to become the very best we can be. We go in separate directions, but we shall be together in our memories of Lomira High. Good luck, and Take care. Sincerely, Nora Burns
