This year the Arimol Staff decided to center on the future, with it's futuristic theme. We hope that you enjoy your trip through this past year, as you glance through this book of memories. But keep in mind----The future is only the tomorrow we dream of today, and we can create our own tomorrows, by the things we do with our todays. The future is only a tomorrow away. — Nora Burns Co-Editor Death creeps in, at dawn or at dust, It takes away life, like it feels that it must. It takes away friends, and those that we love, And carries them away ... far up above. It takes up their souls to the God in the sky, And leaves us on Earth, to grieve and to sigh. We cry and we whimper at the loss of our friends. But we will meet them again, when all Earth life ends. When the Earth as we know it is gone from the sky. Then tears of happiness we will all cry. Because then we will be with those that we love. We will all be with God ... our God up above n.b. It was an honor that I will never forget. The week of homecoming was exciting es- pecially seeing that our football team did so well this year. I felt that we had alot of participation during the week with everyone dressing up and attend- ing the pep rally on the football field, the powder puff game, and finally the big homecoming game against Hori- con. King Dave I would like to thank the foot- ball team for selecting me king. It was a great honor, one which I'll never forget. I'd also like to thank Wendy for accepting my invitation. Homecoming was great I thought the school had alot of spirit. 32 Mary and Mike Luisa and Erick Mary and Jerry Gina and Frank Rhonda and Dennis 33 Powder Puff Champs! Winterfest '85 Winterfest 1985 was one of the most exciting moments of my high school years and first of all 1 would like to thank Tab for being on court with me. 1 also owe it to all of the student body who voted for Tab me to be King and Queen. I know that I will always remember the memories of the excite- ment throughout the whole week, with a smile. Once again, thank you! Julie Wiedmeyer Winterfest was fun and exciting for me. I would just like to thank Julie for asking me to be on court, and for the student body for picking Julie and I for King Queen of Winterfest 1985. We are in charge of the whole Homecoming week, the Christmas Assembly and Winterfest. Our dances are our main fund raisers and also the powder puff game. We try to do a big fund raiser every year so we can purchase something for the school. Our goal this year was to get an activity board for the front of the school in memory of Shelly Bauer. 1st (1-r): J. Wiedmeyer, L. Haddy, D. Stucke, M. Hoepner, 2nd: K. Hayes, J. Feucht, J. Welak, B. Benedict 43 I live in the southern part of Italy in a small town called Casalvecchio di Puglia. Where I live people are close and friendly like they are here. My family is not too big. The only members are my mom and my two sisters Laura and Maria. My dad died when I was three years old, so I spend a lot of time with my grandparents. Because my school in Italy is in another town, I travel every day by public bus. The Italian educational system differs a lot from here. The class day is from 8:00 to 1:30, Monday through Saturday. All courses are required, and there aren't electives. Teachers rotate rooms and not students. Also, we don't have any extra-curricular activities besides learning. We don't have sports or dances. For this reason, I was really happy to be on Homecoming Court. Other different things include food. American food is very sweet for me. In Italy we don't use so much sugar; we eat more fruit for dessert and we have cakes only for special occassions. We don't have Mc-Donalds or Hardees, but we do have fast food restaurants. Because almost all people in Italy are Catholics, I had a real shock here to learn about so many religions and that members of one family can be from several different faiths. When I go back to Italy, I have to go to high school one more year. High School in my country is five years long. Then, I'm almost sure I'll go to college to study Economy (all about business and banks). This is a special year for me. I want to learn so many things, most importantly English! 44 I'm really enjoying my stay here. Luisa Ruta AFS Missy Luedtke, Pres.; Nora Burns, V. Pres.; Robyn Guelig, Sec. Treas. The main responsibility of the AFS club is to promote the interaction of different cultures. The AFS student is here to promote her country and promote good will. It's an experience that is to be shared by all the students and to broaden everyone's horizons. Our club has an annual pizza sale to raise money for our activities. We have students going abroad and have students coming to Lomira. There are also exchanges between different states in which many people can participate. The AFS club has a lot to offer. It's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun. 1st row (1-r): V. Hoffman, M. Thelen, D. Charapata, L. Ruta, A. Reische L, Remus, J. Darner, L. Buerger, 2nd: K. Luedtke, K. Scharf, R. Guelig, C. It has proved to be very successful and fun. The Business Club sponsors bake sales and also sells concessions at girls' basketball games and at wrestling matches. Members have the opportunity to be student secretaries. Their job is to type for the teachers. We also have programs where members can adopt a grand-parent in which they spend time with them. However, much of the credit goes to the members who worked hard and tirelessly to insure a super year. Names were drawn and Christmas gifts were exchanged at the December meeting. The meeting wound up by caroling at the Hope Nursing Home in hopes of sharing some of our happiness with others. During the football season there were those cheerful happy go lucky people who served refreshments at the games. They also held their annual FHA bakeoff which was only open to FHA members. Throughout the year, FHA has periodically sponsored bake sales, candy sales and ice cream socials to raise money. FHA has a very special day at the end of the year, the annual Mother-Daughter awards banquet. During this special meeting the members are given recognition for what they have done throughout the year. It was a super year. 49 Future Farmers Of America Row 1: B. Hesprich, P. Ries, K. Wondra, B. Stu- dents were awarded for hold- ing certain grade point aver- ages throughout the year, and for excellence in certain indi- vidual classes. In holding this academic ban- quet, L.H.S. really brought out the true meaning of schooling — to excel in aca- demics. It was a simple cere- mony, but made a large im- pact. Congratulations to all who received awards for their academic standings! 77 Freshmen Girl's Basketball The Freshmen Girl's Basketball team has improved greatly over the year, due to the inside height. They ended the year with a conference record of 6-7. The losses were to Laconia, Markesan, twice to Heri- con, and twice to Mayville. They lost only non-conference game, which was played against the Kewaskum Indians. They show promise as a good Ju- nior Varsity team according to Coach Lori Immel. Standing: R. Welak, J. Reische, M. Coach Johnston feels that the girls had a positive 1984-85 bas- ketball season. The girls learned to work together as a team, and to- wards the end of the season, the games became more consistent. The JV's came to understand the importance of practicing a particu- lar skill in order to improve on it, as shown with the marked im- provement in the free throws and overall shooting during the second V2 of the season. Coach Johnston remarks that, I enjoyed working with this bunch of young women and I hope they continue to work hard to achieve the goals they set for themselves . Girls Basketball Sitting: K. When they went into playoffs, the girls won their first two games, but then lost the third one to Slinger with a score of 73-56. With this 2-1 tournament record, the girls finished with an over-all record of 7-10. ALL Art Show '85 The annual Art Show that is held in the spring of the year was a big hit this sea- son. The Lomira High School and Junior High Stage Band's helped out by per- forming during the show. Work of all ages was displayed and the top pieces were selected by judges, and received rib- bons. Congratulations to Mr. Smith for a suc- cessful show, and to all the students who had pieces of their work displayed, to be shard by all who attended. 80 Wrestling Row 1: G. Zamzow, J. Stark, T. Pastorious, T. Phillips, W. Topp, T. Hanke, and Coach Meyer. The 1984-85 wrestling season saw an unusually young Lion squad take to the mat to defend Lomira's winning tradition in wrestling. Overall, team records were disappointing with the squad going 5-5 in duals and 13-30-0 overall. The season wasn't without great moments however. The Lions moved from 5th place in the Conference following the duals, to 3rd place in the final Flyway standings because of their great effort at the Conference tournament. Another bright spot and indicator of this team's potential was the squad's 1st place finish in the Kewaskum JV Invite. Individual highlights includ Gene Holst pinning his way to the Conference Championship at 126 pounds and the runner-up finish of Rob King and Darrin Feucht. Rob King was the Lion's sole sectional qualifier. The Team Captain was Gene Holst; Most Valuable Wrestler was Rob King; Most Dedicated Wrestler was Trevor Hanke; Outstanding Senior Wrestler was Pete Jewson; Outstanding Junior wrestler was Gene Holst; Outstanding Sophomore Wrestler was Darrin Feucht; and Outstand- ing Freshman Wrestler was Joe Stark. 81 Track Back Row: E. Thompson, M. Bast, D. Eggers, J. Budahn, M. Kuczkowski, D. Runde; Third Row: B. Hartman, M. Hoepner, T. Gindt, C. Vollmer, G. Miller; Second Row: D. Wantz, L. Strassman, G. Schneiter, R. Cardenas, R. LaBatte, M. Reinke; Front Row: Coach Meyer, B. Hesprich, D. Eggers, R. Schroads, J. Stark. The boy's track team did an out- standing job this year even though no members made it to the state meet. The team really worked hard, and some of that work can be seen through the records that were broken by the guys this past sea- son. Thompson set a new school record on the high jump, with a jump of 6'3Vi , Runde set the long jump record with a jump of 20'5 , Runde also set a new triple jump record at 39'5V£ , Kuczkowski did not let the extra 3 inches added to each of the 300M hurdles get in his way, he still broke the school re- cord to reset it at 41.8 seconds. And yet another school record was set by the 440M relay team of Runde, Bast, Kuczkowski, and Budahn with a time of 46.6 seconds. Great job guys! Back Row: B. Raube, K. Neitzel, T. Shuster, L. Muelhius, K. Hayes, W. Steger, L. Buerger, J. Reische, S. Wendling, S. Kelnhofer, K. Baumann, T. Radevann; Second Row: L. Arthur, K. King, K. Kohli, W. Gygax, M. Ehlers, M. Kramer, K. Scharf, K. Naples, J. Stark, T. Hoepner, N. Bums. The girl's track team did very well this year, minus the fact that they didn't send anyone to the state meet. The girl's put alot of work into their season, and also managed to break a few of the school records through determination and hard work. Tammy Shuster set a new shot-put record of 37'1 which also gave her the conference record. That's quite an accomplishment! Krista Hayes broke her own long jump record of 29' with a jump of 29T1 . Michelle Ehlers broke both the 100M Dash record (time of 13.6 seconds), and the 200M Dash record, with a time of 27.3 seconds. Also, Karen Scharf TECHNICALLY set a new record for the 300M Hurdles, not because she beat the time-since she didn't, but because the hurdles were each raised by 3 inches so they were more difficult than in past years. Congratulations to all track members who managed to set new records and to all for having a good season. 82 Spring Sports The Spring Athletics Banquet was another of the many accomplishments of the newly formed Booster Club at Lomira. Athletes who participated in basketball, golf, wrestling, track, and cheerleading were recognized. Those who excel in these sports were given special recog- nition along with receiving awards for their abilities. The Banquet went over well, as did the Fall Sports Ban- quet. We must say that this is a much better way to receive an award you deserve than to have your coach hand it to you in the hallway at school. Congratulations to all the athletes who were honored and to the Booster Club for their first successful year! 83 84 It was a wonderful day when the Lomira Football team was announced undefeated Flyway Conference Champs! Above we see Mr. Phillips presenting the trophy to Coach Van Hecke — a proud moment to all stu- dents here at LHS. The team has also done well this season. On the team were Varsity Lettermen: J. Bowen, T. Buerger, K.. Kietzer, H. Kracht, and D. Stucke. The Golf Team is coached by Tom Henken. Standing: J. The two losses were against Oakfield who took 1st in Conference and were undefeated. Their overall record was 13 wins and 5 losses. This improved upon last year's 6 wins, nine losses record of the 1984 season. Sitting: B. Tagliapietra, J. Fell, J. Collien, T. Buerger, P. Mason, S. Langenecker, W. Topp, D. Schwieger, K. We would like to give a special thanks to Mr. Drexler for letting us use the darkroom and supplies, Mr. Smith for his help with the artwork, and Mr. Maxson who is our advisor. Along with this, we would like to wish our Seniors the best of luck for their future. You are on your own now, and we hope that when you pull this book out in 10 or so years, it will help bring back some terrific memories of LHS. This school year has been filled with excitement — becoming football and basketball conference champs, forming an academic decathalon team, Prom, Winterfest, and Homecoming Week — and many more fun things. This is a book to look back on and smile. We, the yearbook staff, hope that we have helped and will continue to help you remember your final year at Lomira High. Good Luck Seniors. Thanks for the memories, Nora Burns Editor
