THIS YEAR THE ARIMOL STAFF CHOSE THE THEME, THE WILD WEST. ALONG WITH STAGE COACHES, BRANDS, AND COWBOYS, GO THE LEGENDS THAT WENT WITH THEM. THIS YEAR WE WILL LEAVE A LEGEND BEHIND US. THE ARIMOL CAPTURES THESE MEMORIES AS WE RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET. Vicki Arthur, Editor Danielle Charapata, Co-editor LOMIRA HIGH SCHOOL LOMIRA, WISCONSIN l Opening This year's Arimol is dedicated to our own sheriff of the territory, Mr. Phillips. He brings law and order to the wild country and without him our claims would be jumped by outlaws. He's a friend to everyone and always has a helping hand. He tries to make our journey easy as we travel through this wild frontier. What a fitting homage to a great man. As we gallop off, we take our hats off to you! Thanks Mr. Phillips! 2 Dedication WANTED. Return with us now to those daring days of yesteryear as we join the Lone Administrator and his faithful companion, Pronto, in yet another thrilling adventure! The Lone Administrator and Pronto were just within sight of the Lomira town boundries when suddenly . . . It was the notorious Chalkboard Gang, a group of retired teachers whose mission in life was to return delinquent students to their school marms. 22 Faculty FACULTY After that he was tried like a criminal. The charge: School Desertion. By this time, the delinquent was more than ready to return to school. He'd learned his lesson, school was more important then fishing. And so with a fiery horse, a cloud of dust, and a hearty. CASUAL The school year of 1983-84 was a very versitile year in fashion at LHS. Both the casual and formal wear had unique styles, some referring back to the 40's and 50's. Casual wear was anything from shoes to mini-skirts this year. Various kinds of boat and flat shoes were in, probably due to the fact that they were comfortable and somewhat inexpensive. A shorter style of jean, pumps and monogrammed sweaters were a big hit. Three initials centered, to one side, or a name written out enhanced plain sweaters. Mini-skirts came in big again from colorful patterns of stripes, checkers, pol- ka-dots and solids ade this a sylish but casual look. Monogrammed sweaters were a hit for the cold winter. 30 St. Life FEATURE Elegant styles at Lomira. year. Hats and pumps were a fashionable thing. Jewlery had a flair all its own. DRESS-UP Formal wear consisted a lot of the 40's and 50's era. For instance, hats that were a ne- cessity for high fashion in those eras came back. Some hats displayed feathers, but- tons, or just a plain band. The main colors were either beige or white hats. A new style of pants and tops come in that could be worn both formal and casual. They were made of cotton-polyester fabric, usually white, with pin-stripes of pastel colors or darfer colors. Topped off with a belt and a top with colors of grey, pink, off-blue, black, etc ... a new style of dress was born. All in all, this school year has been a year of many styles both coming in and going out. The summer and new school year will pose a question of what styles will stay and what will not return. St. Life 3l Amy and Kurt St. Life 33 HOMECOMING S N A P Q 3 83 34 St. Life St. Life 37 The Third Annual Winterfest was a great suc- cess. Despite the below zero temperature, many brave souls ventured outside for tubing and skat- ing. There also were indoor activities for those not so brave (and crazy). Mike Luedtke won the Ping - Pong Tournament while Mr. Brown be- came the champion of the cribbage board. Other indoor fun was enjoyed by those who played volleyball and checkers. The dance was held the following night with music provided by Rave. It was there that all these activities were topped off by the crowning of Mark Marrese and Dawn Thomas as the 1984 Winterfest King and Queen. 38 St. Life St. Life 39 Real Senioridice in action! Terri lets off a little steam after finding out she has a term paper due tommorrow . . . and she hasn't started. THAT TIME OF YEAR FOR . . . Shari definitely wishes she were elsewhere. Have you found yourself making your upcom- ing weekend plans (going to K-Mart and pick- ing up a pair of flourescent green socks) in- stead of listening to your teacher's lecture on the Importance of Insecticides? Have you ever felt a sudden, uncontrolable urge to post no- tices throughout the entire school that said: Notice. Due to lack of interest tommorrow will be cancelled. Did you ever wonder what would happen if someone would stick gum inside of all the tubas before a concert? At night, while saying prayers do you add a p.s. something like this: Lord please make all the buses have flat tires tommorrow. Have you ever wanted to volunteer to unscrew all the lightbulbs in the school and count them for extra credit in math class? Have you ever wished for a blizzard in hopes of having a snow day ... in September? If your thoughts and or actions have ever wondered in one of these directions, then you've a classic case of SENIORIDICE. In the dictionary, Senioridice is defined as being the following: Senioridice se-nyer-id-s adj. 1. Disease, mainly affecting the Senior cells which are, for the most part, dormant until this time. 2. A Forgetting homework? It piles up fast. Tricks abound. SENIORIDICE senior with arthritis. 3. Disease affecting all types of seniors (and even some under class- men). Types affected: Partiers known for bi- zarre sense of humor and colorful vocabulary. These people literally live for 7th hour on Friday-indeed that's tne only time they're ful- ly awake. Intellects who become hysterical when they recieve an A- on an exam. They listen and do as they are told. One phrase all senioridice victims have in common: get me out of here! Main Causes. The need to escape after working for a year. Too many teachers trying to help cure it by assigning termpapers, quizzes, and telling you it will ao you good. WARNING! If you should suddenly develop two or more of the following symptoms in rapid succession consult your family phvsican immediately: Excessive daydreaming during class, a sudden urge to steal all of the teacher's red pens, an urge to give an impromptu speech on how to put the cafeteria food to good use, or if your hands begin to tremble and steam comes rushing out of your ears at the mention of the work homework Pi. senioridices See also: highly contagious diseases, potential in- sanity. Senioridice is unavoidable, unexplain- able and uncurable. It's also — contagious. Thoughts of escape. Students start to bring books back. Sf a Underclassmen start to think they're seniors. With many changes its now required to recite the selection three times, instead of just once. If you received high enough ratings you were permitted into a power round . Only the best got this far with ribbons and a trophy to name the top. It was a bit of a change but the team managed it well. Lomira placed fifth in the Conference Foren- sics meet held in Oakfield. In the power round at sub-district Erin Burns placed first and won a trophy in the prose category. Connie VanBeek placed second in poetry and Kelly Manske placed third in Public Address. Everyone did well and moved on to district held at Brookfield. Several also qualified for state held at Madison on April 7th. Those in forensics know how much fun and rewarding it is. Hopefully it will contin- ue on at Lomira. Clubs 49 INGRID ZURITA Ingrid lives in La Paz, the capitol of Bolivia, a city of 1,400,000 people. Coming to the United States (especially Brownsvelle) has been quite a change. Here she says that people in a small town know each other and there is a closeness among them. In the big city where she comes from there is much crowding and not much breathing room. The school Ingrid has come from is a bit different also. The class day is from 8:00 to 1:30, Monday thru Friday. The classrooms seat about 100 people and Ingrid's class had 80 people in it. All courses are required and they have no electives. Teachers rotate rooms not students. After the first couple of days Ingrid was tired and exhausted, not being used to the longer day and having to go from classroom to classroom. Other new things include our food. According to Ingrid the food is different due to preservatives. She eats breakfast and has a big lunch. About 5:00 they have tea and cakes and about 7;30-8:00 they eat supper. Her favorite snack is donuts. Like most Spanish families they use more seasonings but all in all most of the food is basically the same. When she returns to Bolivia she plans on attending the local college to study sociology. She has experienced many unique things from 3-D movies to major car problems to pan pizzas. Ingrid we hope you enjoyed your stay. 50 Clubs Row 1: W. DcMunn, K. Manske, T. Lehner, B. Adelmeyer, L. This years AFS members also had an opportunity to visit the Folk Fair in Milwaukee at Mecca, where there was food, fun, and frolic everywhere! All in all, it was a unique experience many will never forget. We also hosted an AFS weekend, where 10-12 foreign AFS students in the area spent a weekend living with AFS club members in Lomira. The possibility of a short-term exchange with other AFS members in a nearby state exists. Hopefully, with the proper amount of planning it will eventually become reality. AFS also sponsored the computer dating match up which was a definite success. The AFS members were also invited to partici- pate in a Road Rally which is a sort of treasure hunt. The climax of this event is not the thrill of completing the quest, but the end, when all the members meet at a restaurant for a super meal and lots of fun! F IELD ERVICE Pres., S. Badger Girls and Boys State happens in June, after school is out. The girls go to Madison and live one week on the campus while the boys go to Ripon and live on the campus there. Gov. Tony Earl speaks to both groups. At Badger State, you learn to run your own state. You create your cities with ordinances, and even go as far as having punishments. You have county and state governments and are elected by projecting your ideas well. The top position of governor is elected and the girls, on the last day, hold real Senate and Assembly meetings in the Capitol Chambers. Your state governor signs the bills into laws. Then sadly you say goodbye to all the friends you have made. Many extra activities are also done from banquets to running. It is a great learning experience. Alt: K.. Reinders, E. Burns. M. In November, during National Book Month, the fourteen senior members set up a book nook near the high school library for students to recommend their favorite book. Also, during one week they held a book fair for adults and senior high students to help promote reading. In spring, qualified juniors and seniors were selected and inducted into the Lomira Chapter of the National Honor Society. All members must have shown leadership, service, scholarship, and character to be chosen as a candidate. This is due partially to the tremendous leadership of the officers and the added support of Mrs. Steinbach. However, much of the credit goes to the members, who worked hard and tirelessly to insure a super year. Some of the years activities included: a pumpkin carving contest at the October Meeting followed by a delightful spooky haunted house and a chance to enter the FHA Creed Speaking Contest. Names were drawn and Christmas gifts were exchanged at the December meeting. The meeting was wound up by caroling at the Hope Nursing Home in hopes of sharing our happiness with others. During the football Season, thy were those cheerful hap- py-go-lucky people who served refreshments and grate- fully accepted tips. They also held their annual FHA bake- off which was only open to FHA members. Those who entered found it proved to be a great time for all. Throughout the year, FHA has Periodically sponsored bake sales, candy sales and ice cream socials to raise money and fill empty bellies. FHA has two very special ways of ending the year. The first is the annual Mother Daughter Awards Banquet. During this special meeting the members are given recog- nition for what they have done throughout the year. Sadly enough, this is also the time to bid a fond farewell to the old officers. Secondly comes the FHA members party, where the members pick the time and place. It takes people who will work and put up with a lot. We had what it takes again this year! We'd like to thank AHRENS PHOTOGRAPHY for all the pictures that they came out to take and printed free of charge for us. SANDRA ALVARADO did a tremendous job printing pictures for us here with the help of TERRI ADELMEYER and several others. We can't forget MR. DREXLER for the use of his darkroom. MR. SMITH again did a great job on the senior names and TINA ZIMMEL added her great touch with all her artwork. MR. MAXSON again came to aid us with all his advisor knowledge. Without such people we wouldn't have a yearbook. Then there are the dedicated people who stuck it out until the end. Thanks. KAREN REINDERS, KIM DEMUNN, TROY STUCKE, AND TAMI HOFF. Thanks also go to all the unmentioned people who contributed even a little bit of their time for we needed all the help we could get and you gave it. A yearbook needs people and what a group we got!!!! Thanks once again, Vicki Arthur-Editor Danielle Charapata-Co-editor 100 End Page ■
