Mrs. Severson has long been a major force in the promotion of girls sports, and by providing job opportunities for many of her students she continued to follow up her work of instructer as a sincere individual interested in the community’s young people. Mrs. Severson, as Lion’s Pen advisor, guided the publication of the school newspaper and caused it to become one of the more major and useful groups in the school. We the members of the 1981 Arimol dedicate this book to Mrs. Rachel Severson for her outstanding efforts and accomplishments in the educational system of Lomira High School. 3 SENIORS Wendy Aguilera Jean Beisfle Caroline Boddcn 6 a David Forster Patrick Garriety Lisa Graf Melanie Geschke Renee Giese Edward Hall Lynn Griswold Jan Guell Julie Hanks Greg Kemmt'l Karen Lackas Becsy Klein Sherryl Labadie Doug Launders Terry Krapfl Marsha Klatt Colleen Kuechler Ann Lackas 11 Jcannie Sternat Kathy Thompson Steve Tischendorf Greg Sterr Nelson Thulin Christine Strassman Dianne Tibbits Glenn VanTassell 14 Sarah Waehlcr Chris Welak 16 SENIOR INDEX David Adclmcycr Lion's Pen 4; L Club 1,2,3,4; Arimol 4; Cross Country 2,3; Basket- ball 2,3,4; Track 1,2,3,4; Badger Boys State 3; 1,00() mile club 3,4 Karen Adelmeyer Twirp” AFS 4; FHA 1,3,4-Secretary-Treasurer; L Club 4; Spanish Club 4; Arimol 4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Track 4; NHS 3,4; Dodge County Government day 3; Student Librarian 4; Who's Who in Foreign Languages 3 Wendy Aguilera Porky'' Prom Court 3; Chorus 1,2,3,4-Vice President; Girls Glee 1,2,3,4 Charlie Bast Chuck Lion's Pen 4; L” Club 2,3,4; Cross Country 1,2,3,4; Basketball 1,2,3; Track 1,2,3,4; 1,000 mile club 3 Chris Bauer FFA 1,2,3,4 Jean Beistle Beity Chorus 3,4; Girls Glee 3,4; FHA 1,2; Track 1,2 Sharon Belling Annie” Chorus 1,2,3.4; Girls Glee 1.2,3,4; AFS 4; FHA 2,3.4-Vice President NHS 4; Spanish Club 4; Pep Club 1 Cheryl Benedict Prom Court 3; Band 1,2,3,4; Pep Band 1,2,3,4; Solo Ensemble 1,2,3,4; State Solo Ensemble 3,4; Chorus 2,3; Girls Glee 2,3; Vocal Solo Ensemble 2,3; Student Council 1,2; French Club 1,2; Forensics 1,2,3.4; Arimol 4; NHS 3.4; Pep Club 1; Dodge County Government Day 3; Badger Girl’s State 3; Honor’s Band 4 Caroline Bodden Band 1,2,3,4; Pep Band 1,2,3,4; Solo Ensemble 1,2,3,4; State Solo Ensemble 1; AFS 4; Arimol 4; Dodge County Government Day 3; Honors Band 4 Greg Breit Porky” FFA 4; Football 1,2,3; Track 1,2 Jody Buerger Bucky” Prom Court 3-Queen; Chorus 4; Girls Glee 4; AFS 2,4; Lion’s Pen 4; Arimol 4; Track 2; Cheerleading 1 Karen Cook Hooker” FFA 2,3; Volleyball 1; Basketball 1 Sandy Coulter San-doper” Volleyball 4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Track 1,2 Lori Dogs Chorus 1,2,3,4; Girls Glee 1,2,3,4; Vocal Solo Ensemble 1,2,3,4; AFS I; L” Club 4-Treasurer; French Club 1,2-Class Representative; For- ensics 1,2,3,4; State Forensics 1,2; Arimol 4; Track 2; Cheerleading 1,2,3,4-Co-Captain; Play 3; NHS 3,4-Secretary; Pep Cub 1; Class Officer 3-Treasurer Scott Engmann AFS 4-Vice President; Spanish Club 4; Forensics 3; Arimol 4; Foot- ball 1,2; Basketball 1,2,3.4; NHS 3,4-Vice President State Forensics 3 Kevin Falk Homecoming Court 4; L Club 1,2,3,4; Football 1,2,3.4-Captain; Wrestling 1,2,4 M.V.P.; Baseball 4; Golf 1,2,3-Captain Cecilia Ferraro Homecoming Court 4; AFS 4; Lion's Pen 4; Forensics 4; Arimol 4; Volleyball 4 Kelly Fleisncr Smelly” David Forester Football 1- Manager; Basketball 1 Pat Garriety Band 1,2,3,4; Pep Band 1,2,3,4; Solo Ensemble 1,2,3,4; ”L Club 2,3,4; Football 1,2; Cross Country 4; Basketball 1,2,3,4; Baseball 1,2,3,4; Track 1 Melanie Geschke Mel” Solo Ensemble 1; AFS 2,4; FHA 1; Lion’s Pen 4; French Club 2; Dodge County Govt. It was a busy and exciting week that went by all too quickly with times I’ll never forget. Being Homecoming Queen was the highlight of my high school years, and I want to thank Dan for making it all possi- ble. Being Homecoming King was one of the most interesting exper- iences I had this year. I've got a lot of memories of the whole week. I was really impressed with the school spirit. I was quite disappointed when I received my cards and I couldn’t find Lomira on the map I had. But when I looked on a more accurate one, I could find the place. So when I left my country I knw exactly where I was going but I didn't know what the people were like. So at the beginning I was a little scared but the friendly character of people in Wis- consin helped me. Cllld Since the beginning people were interested in meet- ing that Italian girl who doesn’t look Italian be- cause she has blonde hair and blue eyes. When school started I already knew quite a large number of people and I really liked them because they offered help right away and they demonstrated openness and friendliness. I have to thank the community of Lomira for letting me come here and having my experience. I have to thank the people and all the friends of mine who welcomed me very warmly. I have to thank my teachers so patient and understanding. A special thank to the Ronald Steers family who hosted me, surrounding me with love and care. 46 LIONS’ PEN EDITORS: K. Widmer, S. The ac- tivities include a trip to the Holi- day Folk Fair, a trip to the Mil- waukee museum and a Spanish restaurant, cooking labs, and mak- ing crafts. The Spanish club is celebrating Foreign Language Week this year from March 1-7. 26 students will travel to Mexico this year with Miss Knipple and Mrs. Wolf, They will visit three cities in 8 days and 7 nights. After winning only three games in the last two years the Lomira Lions turned things around in 1980. The Lions started the season out strong, winning the first three games, and at one point were ranked third in the state in their division. After a loss to Markesan the Lions won two more games. Injuries began to take their toll among the Lions, causing a shift of positions between the players. This shifting caused inconsistency in the team’s playing. This eventually ended with the Lions having a 5-4 season. Coaches: Mike Van Kevin Falk and Mike Reichert were chosen as the team captains. Also Hackenmiller, Tom making important contributions to the team were: John Steger- team's Gilson, Lee Benish leading rusher, First Team All-Conference Running Back; Dan Muentner- team’s leading receiver, Honorable Mention Offensive End; Bob Vander Grinten- First Team Defensive End, Honorable Mention Running Back; Pat Vander GrintenSecond Team Defensive End, Honorable Mention Center; Mike Warner- First Team Defensive Tackle; Dewey Thomas- Second Team Linebacker. 60 ROW 1: D. Junior Varsity volleyball was especially excit- ing and productive this year because of the excellent combination of the experience of last year’s J.V. and the enthusiasm and talent of the freshmen. I’m looking forward to that being an unbeatable combination next year. The J.V. and the entire volleyball program owe a special debt of gratitude to Coach An- nen. Her enthusiasm and advice will be missed next year on J.V. We, however, wish her continued happiness. The growth of sports for girls became evident this year with the enthusiastic number that came out for volleyball. It was easy to tell who those girls were. The black and blue knees, hips and elbows were the first sign. Power volleyball has come to Lomira and is here to stay. The power of our Senior Lettermen will be sadly missed as Sarah Waehler and Kay Widmer gra- duate. Sarah and Kay were both named to ALL CONFERENCE teams this year, second and first respectively. The other senior who joined us this year was our AFS sister’ , Cecilia Ferraro. The power to look out for next year will be from juniors Sharee Coulter, Patty Ferguson. Kim Keup (ALL CONFERENCE HONORABLE MEN TION), Debbie Kuen and Lisa Muehlius; and from sophomores Julie Feilbach, Chris Sieger, Stephanie Sterr and Laura Thompsen, all of whom made up the Varsity team. Carol Buerger and Darcy Tagliapictra joined us for tournaments. These girls have begun a new era of volleyball which will continue through the 80’s. Their enthu- siasm, sportsmanship and skills excelled through- out the season. 65 C. Reinders, K. Widmer. J. Feilbach. S. Coulter. C. Steger, C. Ferraro, P. Ferguson. S. Sterr, D. Kuen. L. Muehlius. The bright spot has been the constant improve- ment of the team. As a coach I look for the team to play four good quarters of basketball. The closer they get to doing this, the better chance they have at winning the game. The lack of height has hurt us all year for re- bounding. But there are ways to make up for this shortcoming. They must cut down on the mental and physical mistakes in critical situations. Summarizing the whole year, naturally there were disappoint- ROVF 1: M. Marrese, T. Klein, T. Geschke. T. Gieter. P. As a team we never lacked enthusiasm for the game. -S' . J.V. BASKETBALL S This year the J. V. Basket- ball team got off to a slow start, but with each prac- tice and game the team learned to develop a bet- ter attitude toward play- ing-whether they won or lost. They definitely did learn more basketball skills and the team gave 100% at all times. As a whole, they learned that hard work will pay off in the long run. ■ D. Muehlius, W. Ingraham. M. Eilbes, D. Mr. Braastad and myself hope that the runners and field-event people will work hard in practice to improve their skills and live up to their potential. The players who pitched last year have all graduated, so that position on the team is still a big question mark. There are seven lettermen returning, and that should form the nucleus of the team. I'm looking for these players to provide leadership qualities for the younger players, as well as show experience on the field. The goals for this year’s team are to improve the hitting, fielding, and cut down on mental mistakes. The team’s strengths will be in infield and catching positions. I have never in all my years in education experienced such a positive group of young people to work with. Oh, there have been some problems and a few students who try to spoil this image for the rest of the student body, but these students are in the minority and their actions will not be tolerated by the major- ity. As the editors of this year’s Arimol, we’ve encoun- tered many pressures and disappointments; but we’ve also experienced the feeling of pride and accomplishment upon meeting a difficult deadline. In the '81 yearbook we’ve tried to change the for- mat and develop a more interesting Arimol. We hope that you’ll be as pleased with the changes as we are. We would like to thank the members of our staff who did their best to put together this year’s Ari- mol. We would especially like to thank Mrs. Wolf for her patience, our photographers and typists, and everyone else who helped us. The time, effort, and talent you’ve contributed has been appreciated. A 99 In this Arimol we have traveled through the events and activities which took place here at Lomira High School during 1981. Our paths have taken us through good times and bad, victories and losses. May the paths you walk always lead to the good.
