I-Ieres What We Dzcl Four years ago the class of 45 was lust a bunch of 29 greenles rn L H S Our class roll lncluded There e Berg Bernrce Bmt ler Donald Bump Karlliwerdt Monroe Grams Ianett Grandman Ioutse Guell Donald Helchen Mary Ellen Hrlbert Agnes Iaeger Iames Klebesadel Kenneth Lange Iosephlne Leb Marxetta lV'art1n Rrchard Mayer Russell Oppltger George Petrl Ruben Schaumberg Betty Scheer Phyllrs Scheer Rrta Schlaefer Ioyce Schnerter Helen Smrhanrc Ieanny Sm1l1an1c Roger Stoffel lune Strobel Blame Tolzman Leo Weyer and La Verne Zangl Durtng the course of the year Iosephme Kenneth and Donald H left to go to other schools or to vxork Mr Lehr was our class adv1sor and Phyllls Scheer was class prestdent other offlces were held by Donald Helchen and Karl Ewerdt Ours was an actrve class havlng many part-rclpants rn forenstcs sports and muslc Our number drmrnrshed greatly by the end of our second year when we had twenty one members Agnes and LaVerne drdn t return rn fall and Russell Ioyce and Betty left before the end of the year The sophomore class of 1943 was well known for rts partres We gave them for every occasron that offered an excuse for one Our able adv1sor was Mr Sheskm Ianett Grandman Rlta Schlaefer and Elalne Tolz 'nan were elected offrcers Both boys and gtrls were actrve rn sports and we had seven representat ves rn the IOTGHSIC freld A nl ol southen gal 1o1ned our ranks as a 1un1o1 namely Ann Hennxng However several others left us Karl and Monroe went to Fond du Lac htgh school and Donald went to a Chlcago school lhrs year we elected the followrng offrcers presrdent George Petrr v1ce presrdent Ruben Schaumberg ecretarv treasurer Rrta Schlaefer Mrs Hayes was our class adv1sor On December 8 we gave one of he most successful plays rn the hrstory of the school The Bargaln Brrde The brg event of the year was our prom In the Blue of Evenmg on Aprrl I3 George Petrr and Ieanette Kalous were the royalty and Raye Block s orchestra furn1shed the musrc Our only SOCIQI event was a slergh rrde party and not rn Iuly erther We vrsrted the Fond du Lac County mental hosprtal and the rnstltutrons at Taycheedah as smart for the rest of us and graduated wrth the class of 44 He s 1n the Army Arr Corps now When me returned for our last year our number had dwrndled to s1xteen Mary and Ruben hav mg enrolled rn other schools and Leo 1o1n1ng the ranks of Uncle Sams Navy Donald Bump declded l'19l1K9Cl L H S best and so he came back for hrs frnal yea ln November Rrchard Mayer left us to help at home Elarne Tolzman Marretta Martm and Iune Strobel were elected as class offrcers Mtss Schrank our class adv1sor was also the able though harassed drrector of the class play Ask for the lkroon C urs wa somethrng dlfferent rn the lrne of class plays rt had an all g1rl cast To look at thrs year araduatrng class one would th1nk the war had really taken rts toll Morletta took her drploma at the semester and rs attendrng a beauty culture school rn Nlrlwaukee Roger left too a few months before school closed We have always pr1ded ourselves on the way we got along w1th each other you A ll frna no quarrels 1n our hlstory And there are our four years They have been four of the happtest and the swrftest We shall all look back w1th pleasant memorles to our days at L H S I'Ie're'5 What We're onna Do Con e I 1th me 1nto the future and let me show you what the Senror Class of 1945 IS dorng On my way to the arrport one mornrng I prcked up a copy of the Ne N York Super Duper Gazette and 1mag1ne rn, surprtse vhen glanclng at the edrtorral I notrced lt was wrrtten by Donald Bump my old classmate Well my plane was ready to leave so I had to hurry or I would have been left behrnd Naturally I looked at the prlot and 1t was none other than that Dare Devrl Ace George Petn Feehng conf1dent I got mio the plane and zoomed offl My plane landed at Ch cago where one of the refreshment trucks pulled up aslde of the plane and sold food and dr1nk Surprtses never cease becaus vwhose name should I see on the truck but Ianett Grctndmcm s Buttermtlk Co Later I found out our dear classmate owned a charn of these trucks whrch vs ere operatlng all over the country Feehng a lrttle slck after my glass of outtermllk I went to the a1r port nurse and who should 1t be but Bernxce Blntzler now a Regtstered Nurse worklng at the Chlcago Arrport After f1x1ng me up I felt rn need of a lrttle entertarnncent so I decrded to stay over for the mght I hopped rnto a taxl and went to Berg House ne er dreamrng rt was named after Therese Berg one of my classmates As I talked to her when I arrtved she old me she had started out as a f1l1ng clerk and ended up ownlng the whole hotel , o Q O O I I I I ' I I I ,V -4' I I I ' I 7 . - 1 1 -' I L . . - - 4 - ' r r 1 .
