CLASSES AND GRADES Of all the things that went into the permanent record perhaps grades were the most important. They were the measure of a studentls scholastic success- success in the main business of school life. They were a measure of his industry and application, an indication of his growth and development. They were his passports, too, to extracurricular activities, since participation in athletics and the number of other extras he could undertake depended on his standing in his classes. Grades may also affect one's chances of entering the college of his choice or of obtaining a coveted position. WORK AND PLAY -- The number and variety of clubs and other extracurricular activities indi- cate that they play an important part in the life of L. H. S. There are organi- zations to suit every taste-athletic, artistic, musical, or social. As new interests arise new clubs are formed, the Projectors' Club was organized this year for boys interested in operating moving picture machines. While most clubs carried out their activities in a traditional manner, several new projects were addedg for example, Hi-Y's Aunt Jemima breakfast and the weekly noon movies sponsored by the student council. Because clubs offer so many opportunities for the exer- cise of leadership, responsibility, and initiative, they play an important role in the educational program of the school.
