Although they lost the opening game to the Old Abes, the Rangers proved to be tough. Subsequently Ralph Schultz, the Abraham boys, and Bob Devine led Logan. Logan roared back to defeat Marshfield. A punt blocked by Torn Barton set up a Ranger score. Schultz's 60 yard touchdown run was a highlight. Other standouts were Bill Abraham and Doug Martin. The win was costly as Jess Boehlke was injured and missed the rest of the season. Logan made a bid for the city championship by defeating Aquinas. Schultz and Devine sparked the offense, while Martin, Barton and Captain Vince Marco led the defense. Martin caught an Aquinas back from behind and saved the Rangers from a possible tie. Ron Skillbeck's passes set up both touchdowns. Devine scored twice- to lead Logan in their conquest of Winona Cotter. Tom Barton blocked a punt to set up one of the Ranger's touchdowns. Logan lost a tough defensive game to Merrill which saw Captain Vince Marco lead the Rangers. Offensive leaders were Schultz, Skill- beck and Devine. Logan swamped Menomonie as Ron Johnson and Skillbeck com- bined forces to score two touchdowns apiece. A key block by Ray Schmitt helped Schultz return a punt 75 yards to a touchdown. De- vine led the Logan backfield as they lost a heart-breaker to Central. Defensively, Barton and Abraham did a good job. Logan's Doug Martin, Bob Devine, Vince Marco, and Ralph Schultz made up the all-city team. Second team members were Tom Barton, Bob Snyder, Larry Otto, and Ray Schmitt. After the season, Mr. Rodney Martin, head coach at Logan since 1947, announced his retirement. Mr. Marshall Haugen was selected as his replacement. Always behind the great teams that Logan produces you will find a loyal bunch of rooters who never stop boosting their boys These rooters are the Logan Cheer Leaders and they are in turn backed by the Pep Club. Founded with the idea that every one performs better with encouragement, the Pep Club really goes to work to give that extra boost that helps win games. They Give Strength to the Teams The Pep Club, whose 1953-54 officers were: president, Sharon Blank, vice-president, Peggy Kingsley, and sec- retary, Whyona Kinstler, sends buses to out-of-town games and sponsors dances after home games. Under its direction, the Football Festival court is chosen and the festival dance held. Members also plan and produce the many pep assemblies held during the year.
