cviafozy of His Cifaaa of 7955 As the long voyage comes to an end, the Log of the USS Logan is filled with treasured details of a twelve-year journey. Only six of the present crew members of the Class of 1955 spent all twelve years on the good ship. They are Jane Harvey, Maxine Haszard, Marcella Kersten, Eugene Peterson, Har- old Powers, and Lorraine Woodard. Graduating from eighth grade, where they were piloted by Vergil Wolf and Helen Adams, were Joan Birks, Lowell Clark, Wayne Ekren, Mariorie Finley, Vonda Fountain, Jane Harvey, Maxine Haszard, Marcella Kersten, Gale Muxfeldt, Larry Pitt, Eugene Peterson, Harold Powers, Carol Storey, Wilma Straight, and Lorraine Woodard. K After sailing other seas for eight years, Francis Archer, Ocle Archer, Derrell Bradley, Lorraine Col- lins, Robert Daigh, Lloyd Dickinson, Fred Divel- bess, James Grundmeier, Harold Kierscht, Elaine Michael, Betty Obrecht, Gary Pitt, Gloria Pitt, Vera Pitt, Bonnie Poole, Rosemary Rief, Jack Smith, Mary Stephens, Joyce Thompson, and Dean Van Cleave came aboard the USS Logan in September, 1951. After experiencing both fun and hardships dur- ing the freshman cruise, the crew set sail for their sophomore year, with Betty Barrier from Woodbine ioining the group. This was the year our dear class- mate, Vonda Fountain, was fatally iniured in an automobile accident. Near the end of the tenth year, Mariorie Finley, Robert Daigh, Betty Obrecht, Fred Divelbess, Lor- raine Collins, Eugene Peterson, Harold Kierscht, .loan Birks, Gary Pitt, Wilma Straight, Gale Mux- feldt, and Jane Harvey were chosen to serve at the Mardi Gras Banquet. As the iourney's eleventh lap was begun, Elaine Myer joined the crew. The sea was becoming a bit rough with the additional extra-curricular activi- ties, namely, magazine sales and the prom, Mexican Fiesta. For the first time, an all-night celebration including a banquet, dance, midnight show, and breakfast was planned for high school students and their guests. During the concluding iourney, the senior year, Joan Shelton ioined as the latest recruit. High- lighting this trip were such events as the Christ- mas party, class play, Prize Pigs , and choosing the class gowns, colors, flower, and motto. Gowns were chosen with blue for the boys and white for the girls with white and blue carnations, respec- tively. The choices of dusty rose and silver as class colors and Onward ever, backward never as the motto also were made. Officers for the final year were Mcriorie Fin- ley, secretary, Elaine Myer, vice president, Lor- raine Collins, president, and Joan Birks, treasurer, with C. W. Morford and Donald Hanson as sponsors. The Class of 1955 would like to express its ap- preciation for the help of the instructors O. L. Mor- gan, C. E. Matthews, Bob Evans, John Black, Gar- reth McDonald, Dorothy McDonald, Mildred Ryan, Bernice Bobenhouse, Margaret Leeney, Robert Ball, James Hayes, Valborg Keay, Shirley McCann, Mar- garet Johnson, C. W. Morford, Donald Hanson, Janice Yoerger, Polly Munson, Ray Gunn, and Wil- liam McMahon who have contributed to the com- pletion of a successful iourney.
