This year has been exciting for the LHS Social Studies department. Their curriculum was changed to quarter classes with the additon of new courses such as Law, Sociology, Consumer Education, and 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s and Futurism. Field trips included a visit to a small claims court, a local jail, a prison, and a mortuary. Students participated in comparative shopping and also rode with a policeman on duty. They organized and took part in a mock presidential election and scheduled discussions with a polygraph examiner and an F.B.l. agent. With students from the perplexed to the triumphant, the teachers did their best to educate all pupils in mathematical mysteries. Mrs. Elich wrote a proposal for the use of calculators in math classes and received national funding for the program. Carlctta Elich Mathematics Roger Wilson Mathematics, Athletics 20 Faculty

Patti Johnson Shannon Rasmussen Home Economics Home Economics With dents in the art of cooking, sewing, child care, bachelor arts, and homeliving, three specialists helped to make a part of I.HS more enjoyable. Due to popular demand, the Home Economics Department added more foods classes to their schedules and taught more co-ed sections of bachelor arts-homcliv-ing. The students in Child Development class had the unique experience of running a nursery school for eight weeks. Surprisingly enough, both teachers noted the large amount of boys in this formerly female field! A major change happened in the PE department this year due to Title IX. All the classes went to coed, with the exception of the 6th hour athletics classes. With a goal of keeping youthful bodies fit, the qualified teachers combined their efforts to teach from archery to ping-pong. The department has also been expanded to include a gymnastics team. Col.
