On occasion my friends exclaim: You are a teacher at Logan High?! You have got to be crazy!' I wonder about that statement and I then investigate my feelings and begin to question: is it crazy to be challenged each day by young, but yet mature minds that can grasp and understand and that become somewhat impatient in their waiting for their real opportunity to contribute to society? Is it crazy to observe the growth and success of hundreds of young individuals as they struggle for. and. in fact, begin to find their place in life? Is it crazy to be a struggling adult amidst the frustration and success of the Sophomores, the sureness and determination of the luniors and the pride and the slump of the Seniors? Is it crazy to enjoy, and in my own personal and proud kind of way. appreciate walking through the halls, shopping downtown, or just being visited in my home and hearing the titles Mr. Haslam.’ or Larry.' or Has.' or Dad. or even an occasional unmentionable?’ Is it crazy to feel victory or defeat in a ball game, or thrill with a musical or drama, or appreciate a performance of an orchestra or band, or feel pride for a marching group, or share the happiness felt by a student that comes after an honest effort, or feel a tinge of sadness and emptiness each spring when the graduating class smiles, accepts their diploma, cries a little, and then says goodbye' to LHS? And so. I wonder —Larry Haslam
