You have got to be crazy!' I wonder about that statement and I then investigate my feelings and begin to question: is it crazy to be challenged each day by young, but yet mature minds that can grasp and understand and that become somewhat impatient in their waiting for their real opportunity to contribute to society? Is it crazy to observe the growth and success of hundreds of young individuals as they struggle for. and. in fact, begin to find their place in life? Is it crazy to be a struggling adult amidst the frustration and success of the Sophomores, the sureness and determination of the luniors and the pride and the slump of the Seniors? Is it crazy to enjoy, and in my own personal and proud kind of way. appreciate walking through the halls, shopping downtown, or just being visited in my home and hearing the titles Mr. Haslam.’ or Larry.' or Has.' or Dad. or even an occasional unmentionable?’ Is it crazy to feel victory or defeat in a ball game, or thrill with a musical or drama, or appreciate a performance of an orchestra or band, or feel pride for a marching group, or share the happiness felt by a student that comes after an honest effort, or feel a tinge of sadness and emptiness each spring when the graduating class smiles, accepts their diploma, cries a little, and then says goodbye' to LHS? And so. I wonder —Larry Haslam Theme 13 School Board supports LHS's bicentennial ar The Board of Education and administration of the Logan School District are pleased with the many accomplishments of the students at Logan High School. The Senior class, known as the class of 76. has provided able leadership for another great Logan High School studentbody. We congratulate you for making Logan High a different high school through your efforts in scholarship, music, drama, sports, debate and many other extra-curricular activities in which you have been involved. We are proud of your many achievements and recognize the efforts of an excellent faculty and administration who have assisted you at Logan High. James C. Blair Superintendent •mtendent lames C. Blair Williams, lames C. Blair. Dr Kenneth Cuthbert. 14 Administration Rounding off his fifth year as principal at Logan High School, Mr. J. Paul Miller contributes to build Grizzly Pride. Always offering a happy smile and pleasant attitude, Mr. Miller credits the achievements and accomplishments at Logan High to the high quality studentbody. Principal Miller feels students show good judgment in matters of dress and conduct. He believes that progress, made only through interest and caring, depends on the students and faculty working together to achieve and maintain their goals. Through joint support and dedication of the faculty. School Board, and Superintendent. Mr. Miller thinks Logan High is the finest student-centered institution in the country. Fresh from the position of Principal at Wilson Elementary School. Mr. Rulon Olsen completes his first year at Logan High as Vice-Principal. A Logan High graduate himself. Mr. Olsen still actively engages himself in Logan High functions. You'll always see his face and hear his cheer at any L.H.S. activity. With a B.S. in Elementary Education and a graduate degree in Educational Administration. Mr. Olsen possesses administrative qualifications, plus qualities of being able to communicate easily with students and administration. In charge of student activities, attendance and assisting Mr. Miller in other areas. Mr. Olsen believes that education can only be achieved by the students' own diligence. He thinks that the main objectives of Logan High should be to offer a sturdy basic educational program for all students and also give each individual an opportunity to explore his own interests. Each junior and senior student can choose areas fitting his own interests and sophomores prepare to make future choices in a traditional English 10 program. Mrs. Haws Sophomores make me smile. The girls compete in the 4-A division. Along with the new program comes Miss Charmaine McKay who believes. There is more to competing than winning. It’s important for girls to associate with girls from other schools, as well as learn from team members.'' Mrs Welsh would like to go home. Mrs. Johnson It's so easy. Exciting new developments have come about in the Home Ec. Department. One of these is a class called Bachelor and the Single Girl. This exciting step designed for senior girls and guys concerns family life and parenthood preparation. Another new program lets the girls taking the class explore careers in child development. The kids have a lot of enthusiasm, they know what they want, and they're willing to work for it; that's what makes them great. It's this kind of attitude that keeps the spirit going throughout the school year. I have a favorite quote that I feel sums up what I’m trying to say; We all choose what we wish to be. No one impels us or compels us. We may delude ourselves that this is so. but it is not ... a man who denies this is a weakling who wishes to blame others for his life!' Good luck and best wishes for success to the entire studentbody.'' — Nancy Snedaker 76 The way things were «■ The past hundred years Logan has undergone numerous face lifts, but the true core of the city (the ambitions, morals, and goals of the people) has remained the same. Today Logan has many big city ad vantages, such as a university, golf courses, shopping centers, restaurants, athletic facilities, and cultural exhibits which were not available in 1875. Yet now. nearly a hundred years later. Logan has retained much of its country friendliness. To the right is a map of Logan City Just as it was in 1875. This year I’m so busy that I’m only home about 12 hours a day (that's including sleeping time). I've been on both sides of the fence in this topic. During my sophomore and junior years I was on the non-active side. School got boring for me and that was that. Now. I'm involved a great deal. I've even surpassed my dating record for both my sophomore and Junior year. I even enjoy school more ... (I guess I have to since I'm usually here 8 hours a day). 1 really feel that I'm doing something worthwhile and It makes me want to continue. If you get involved I know that your remaining years will be much more enjoyable here at LHS. I love It and who knows, if you try tt you may like it too. — Konrad Emi V Presbyterian Girls Academy. That being the first football game ever won at L.H.S. by the Class of 76. the players were not only filled with excitement, but were also thankful for the studentbody who stood by them through the defeats. This being the first year for cross-country. Logan High showed poise and confidence through the season although they only won once. The Bears were big as they marched into the Grizzly den to win. the Seniors, coaches, and the student-body knew it was very dim. There was blood in the air at Logan that day. the Bears were ahead with 9 minutes to play. The score was 7-0 when there came a big play, it was a Grizzly trap that saved Logan that day. Brown side-stepped a player or two. then with a burst of speed went sailing on through. Logans P.A.T. for two didn't do much, the Bears had the Grizzlies eating their lunch. The 7-6 was the thoughts of many that day. but Brockman's kick came with 3 minutes to play. Bear River wasn't through, if Cutler and gang had anything to say. They marched to Logan's 20 with 20 seconds to play. On the fourth down the ball was snapped for the field goal try. Block the ball, block the ball was Logan’s Fan's cry. Dan; Ho,Iy Hales Working to achieve honors takes time, it can’t all be done in one year, one term, or one class, in your quest for high school academic honors, the most important years are freshman, sophomore, and junior. The advantage to this is that it leaves your senior year mostly open to having fun to go to all the dances, join all the clubs and generally to have fun while resting on your laurels. This is not true for those striving for athletic honors. For these, the senior year is the most important, as all years before fade away into memory. That year is the culmination of all years gone, the pinnacle of achievement. So which area you focus your attention on often depends on which years you are willing to work.” oitcluSio Logan joins in celebration of America s 200th birthday Logan has grown, progressed, and developed into a fine, prosperous community.
