Their interest and concern for the betterment of Logan High has been greatly appreciated by the students and faculty. The Board's approval for the Chauntaires1 trip to Hawaii and the new dress code demonstrated their cooperation and support of Logan High. We say thanks to Superintendent Blair and the Board for their untiring efforts. DR. JAMES C. BLAIR Superintendent 12 ppincipals As principal, Mr. Miller feels that the studentbody has accepted more responsibility both collectively and individually in making the most of their educational opportunities. Student acheivement and accomplishments have been marked with excellence. He stated that the combined dedication and support of the faculty. Superintendent, and the Board of Education has certainly added to our New Direction in making Logan High the finest student-centered institution in the country. A change in the Logan High administration resulted in our new vice principal, Mr. Poole. He has exhibited enthusiasm and a genuine interest in the welfare of the students. Experience in many aspects of student life including coaching, counseling, and teaching, has given him a broad background in dealing with the problems and activities of the students. He expresses a desire that we continue to uphold the traditions and excellence that Logan High has been known for. 13 MR. MAX ALLEN Spanish enqLish Panel discussions, Julius Ceaesar, gerunds, verbs, movies and book reports all bring to mind the English Department. Once again the English Department offered a variety of classes to meet the needs of Logan High students. Composition grammar, and vocabulary helped students in achieving meaningful communication. Where would we be without our fearless English crew to constantly correct us and teach us how to talk? Thanks go to those hard working teachers who spent so much time teaching us correct English. Madrid es la ciudad mas importante en Espana. LanQuages Many old and ordinary things in the language department took on a new light as the language teachers strove to make their classes more meaningful and interesting. These efforts included special speakers, films, tapes, parties and numerous other activities. Dedicated teachers not only taught the languages of the different countries, but also their cultures and customs. All of these things made the language classes come alive, and were certainly appreciated by the students. MISS DIXEE MISKIN German, English MRS. Surprising what went on in the south wing of Logan High this year. With the Chauntaires going to Hawaii and the Orchestra traveling to Tuscon, the Music Department kept busy this year. Practice makes perfect, a well-chosen motto, spurred the band, orchestra, and vocal classes and the finished results astounded all who heard these groups perform. Many days of pratice kept them top in the state. This year, students had great accomplishments in music and represented Logan High well. MRS. GAYLE HAWS English MRS. MAXINE HANSON English MRS. These words rang through the University of Utah Special Events Center as the Logan High Grizzlies took fifth place consolation honors After a first round loss to a tough Ogden team, and losing star scorer Bill Calderwood to an ankle injury, the gutsy Grizzlies came back and won the next three games. Logan was awarded the fifth place trophy after defeating Skyline and View-mont, and beating Highland in a nerve-wracking overtime game. This year has been one of the great years of tradition and pride on the basketball court. A team made up of little experience, average size and untested ability proved again the glory of hard work and dedicated efforts. One of the keys to the success has to be the leadership of the seven seniors, the fellowship of the seven juniors and the presence of five sophomores who worked, watched, and learned, also the assistance of five fine managers in every respect. All in all, once again, the team had to be the reason for all the success achieved. Many lessons were learned on and off the court; tremendous involvement by the entire studentbody and faculty was evident. I congratulate the team and the entire school for maintaining and upholding the Pride and the TRADITIONS of Logan High School. 143 The 1972-73 wrestling team consisted of. Our wrestlers are gaining experience for the 1973-74 season through hard work and dedication to the program. Gary Stephens had a great season. He placed first in the 185 lb. class in the region tournament. Allan Obray, Dart McGregor, and Brad Stock-ton took 4th place in their classes and also represented Logan at the State Tournament. Next year our returning wrestlers will continue to work hard to improve our record at Logan High. 144 This year's swimming team consisted of, Frontrow: Fred Essig, Mike Bylund, Brian Haan, Brian Burnett, Lester Essig, Greg Winter Second row: Bill Bylund, Jeff Call, Kent Cook, Steve Pritchett, and Raymond Clark. swimming Although few in numbers, Logan High was well represented with some excel lent individual performances. Mike Bylund, a senior, repeatedly set school records all year. At the region meet he set new region records in the 200 and 400 yard freestyle races. There were some excellent young swimmers including juniors Fred and Lester Essig. Lester in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle and Fred in the backstroke won enough firsts and improved their performances sufficiently to gove great promise for next year. Bill Bylund and Kent Cook, sophomores, will help the team effort next year. tk 145 Golf Team for 1972-73 consisted of: Wayne Jensen, Mike Roskelley, Wade McFarland; Back row, Mike Simpson, Donel Larson, Mike Bates. They finished second and qualified for the state meet held in Logan. The region qualifying took place in the fall. This not only forced us to wait for the spring state meet but forced Wayne Jensen and Mike Ros-kelleyinto dual roles as football players and golfers. These two, teamed with Mike Simpson, gave the team superior senior leadership. 146 COACH ROGER WILSON The 1972-73 Tennis Team consisted of, Frontrow: Emad Guirguis, Lester Essig, Richard Winget, Kirk Nelson, Brian Haan, Doug Stowell. With only Dave Misener, Fred and Lester Essig, and Kirk Nielson, all juniors, back from last year's team, we had to rely on the younger boys to fill in.
