Through guest speakers, on excellent collection of research material, and the latest teaching innovations the students absorb and grow intellectually. Debate was also affiliated with this department, adding new laurels to the already superior program. 19

Such classes os typing, shorthand, business machines, bookkeeping and secretarial science give the student a superior background with which to work. 18

Mrs. Tingey The art of communication is a difficult one to master, but through the skills and knowledge of the distinguished teachers it becomes alive and meaningful to the students. One of the most vital and basic parts of a person's education, students were tutored in grammar usage, vocabulary, literature and spelling. Other phases of the department were speech, where students developed poise and self confidence, and finally the library with everyone's favorite, Mrs. Elwood, the outgoing, cooperative librarian.
