BATES Pump.: To Logan High School Students of 1933-34: You have justified in large measure our splendid motto, A strong arm, a brave heart, and clear mind. The physical education, intra-mural, and athletic records for the year show good physical development, cooperation, and sportsmanship. Your courage in upholding the fine traditions of our school- and the high ideals of life deserves much credit. The qualities of a clear mind have never been exceeded, as indicated in your achievements in scholarship, drama, music, forensics, journalism, and club activities. The many students who have worked for these standards have not only enriched their own lives but have also helped Logan High School to a higher plane. I speak for the school in saying that such service is admired and appreciated. GEORGE S. Student Council HE Student Council, although only two years old, has become 414 one of the very important influences in solving student problems, and by its efficient work this year has added much to its prestige. P' 'n With two students from each advisory class comprising this organization, a complete cross-section of opinion has been represented in the meetings, held every other Wednesday morning before school, and as a result, solutions to many school problems have been worked out. One of the special duties for the fellows has been to raise the American flag each morning and lower it at sun-down. In addition, much enthusiasm for various activities has been engendered through the council. lllllllllllllllIIIllIIIIIIIllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllllllllll lIlIlllllllllIIIlllllllllllllIlllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIlllllllllllllllil Pug: Fan :lem gllllllIIIllIIllIIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll A M P H I O N lllIIIIIlllllIIIIllIIIIllllllllllIIIIIlIllIlIIlIlllIlII! We realize that back of 123343 all sports, all club and class organiza- tions, all activitiesg back of all student leader- ship, stands the faculty ready to advise and encourage. ' One of the Outstanding accomplishments this year was the art exhibit which was sponsored with the cooperation of several local artists. The exhibit was inspirational for the students and the public alike. Probably the most successful Parents' Day in the history of the school was sponsored this year by the faculty. This day gave the parents a chance to become acquainted with the aims and organization of the school, as well as to see the work of the students. Undoubtedly it went far toward a better understanding between students, teachers, and parents. Pug: Sixlcm 1 Mu :'6Q 5 -QATLQ v 929 f'-K - X -fa 619399 'ENE I-:kr . In athletics, E E 0 ' drama, social affairs, and student leadership, it has E T2 played an active role. Its members have shown their ability E E to work together, not only in their assemblies, but in their 5 E parties. 5 Q The junior Prom, which they sponsored, was unique and E E colorful, as well as being a success financially. The sponsor- E E ing of this party well showed the possibilities of the Junior E E class leadership. HE Sophomores this year have shown QF? - ,UE themselves to be a class from which much may be expected. Their officers 4' 'N have shown themselves capable and the members have responded enthusiastically to theirx leadership. They have taken active parts, and in many cases leading roles, in athletics, drama, opera, band, debating, and almost every other activity. The programs for which they have been re- sponsible have been interesting and original, and their two class parties were outsrandingly suc- cessful. To choose any individual outstanding players would be rather dif- ficult, but the fellows who seemed to be holding places clown very suc- cessfully were Spencer, Hall, Lewis, R. The Ogden game proved to be the turning point of the season, for following it both South Cache and Preston were handed out the low end of the score on the home field. By winning over Preston the Grizzlies gave the undisputed regional championship to Box Elder. The Grizzlies finished the season with nine victories and' one defeat, averaging 33.6 points a game to 27.1 for opponents. The Grizzlies started the season slowly by taking a ragged game from Preston, 20-17, but rapidly improved to defeat South Cache and North Cache by fairly large scores. Ogden gave Logan its only defeat of the season by downing them, 25-21. The Tuesday following, the Grizzlies defeated Box Elder in a thriller, 29-28, and on Friday played their best game up to that time by vanquishing the Weber Warriors, 35-27. Bear River, Preston, and North Cache were defeated in succession. In the final game of the region, the Grizzlies were pushed to the utmost to win from the Spartans from South Cache, which they finally did only in the last few minutes of play. After completing this successful campaign, the Maroon and White team entered the state basketball tournament, which was held in Salt Lake City on March 14, 15, and 16. The Grizzlies won their first game from Gunnison, 36-35, but were eliminated from the tournament when they were defeated by Nephi, 42-26, and by Salina, 32-17. The team was badly 05 form throughout the tournament, barely winning the first game, and then dropping the next two games by large scores. In our assembly Mr. Bates welcomed the students, stu- dents welcomed the Sophs, and Seniors welcomed the soft seats. --Woe is woe and what luck! They took my quarter and got rid of another bottom locker. -Being uncorralled at noon, I hied me down to the fair to sec how my pickles came out. - -Not knowing which peaches to take to the celebration, the band went to Brigham and left me home. If it hadn't been for a good assembly and dance, I would have died. -Everyone is selling his old books-and was my sun-tan red when I found the heart revealing notes in my last year's Algebra book circulating at ten cents a glance? -- Yust ceep viggling, by Toe Ander- son . -Logan came out of the struggle today with a 7-0 victory over Provo, I'm glad I don't have glee tomorrow and that I can talk with my hands. OCTOBER -I cut class and dashed over to Nibley, only to find that league officers had got their dates mixed and no assembly. -Mr. Baugh told us to root for Logan but to lc: the other fellow do the yelling. He should have told me that last week! -D. Lewis was titled shining light in Logan-N. C. game even if we only tied the game. I located a pair of clappers today and saved the wear and tear on my throttle. -Tryout today for this year's school play, when my lumbering figure did go on display, but a suitable part I failed to portray. -Vera Dunn kinda went in for wall climbing and Ernie Tippets turned female radio announcer in Masker's meeting today. -And it's Friday! True to form it is the lucky day, for Box Elder Bees stung us good, and we had our alumni back to do a little showing off, too! -I tried to sneak into the Soph. Hard Times party, but the doorkeeper de- tected the presence of a superior. -Basking in the sun of the South Seas sure appealed to me. Mr. Coombs had the right idea, even though he lacked the atmosphere. 25-Lockers banged louder than ever today for it's the last time until after U. E. A. And whistling merrily I set me off to one blissful week-end. -Being flustered and upset, I pushed off to the 1. F. F. without my eye- brows-and just at a time when a girl craves alluring eyes. NOVEMBER 2-Ollie jean was the life of the pep rally, which seemed to show that her report card didn't affect her as mine did me. 3-I'll bet anything the S. C. Spartans were making mud pies today, after the way they let Logan make 13 points on them. llIllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIIllIIIlllIllllllllllllllllllll IIllllllllllllllllllllllIIIIIIIIIlIIIlIIIIIlllllllllllllllllllllll I Pu g liigbly-I uv llllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllllllllIIlllllllllllllllllllllll A M P H I O N IllllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIllllIIIIIllllllllllllllllllllg The Diary Of A Senior :Eg -I think I can, I think I can, I think I can-and I did laugh at Prof. Myer's train story. -The team played Granite in Salt Lake and Dean Lewis played up for some food in the middle of the night-so I'm told. 71-Chemistry students began slinging acid around in the lab. after school, and I went home with one and a half stock- ings. Oh, allowance, where art thou? -Had a scrumptuous time at the Senior Class party, even if I did have to ask my man. -The Juniors followed up with a party so that they would use our decorations. fLaff-laff.j -The whole school turned out for the Turkey Dance with hopes of taking home the turkey. There was only one turk and one Lincoln McClellan, so I tried for a pie. DECEMBER -Back on the job again, all but Mr. Hodges, who couldn't take ir, it seems. Say, how many turkeys did. he eat any- way? -The play cast worked until the wee hours of the morn. Maybe I'm glad I'm not a second Barrymore. --The play cast surely knows its scandal. I wonder if they got their technique from the club room. -I stayed home with little Ebby while mother went to school. -The college glee club came down to show us how it's done. -I followed the crowd to Degn's, where another fatal shot went down in history. lllllllllllllllIlllllllllllllllIlllllllIlllIIIllllllllllllllllllllll 23-The pause that refreshed us: caroling : between classes, peanuts between paper E twists, and shoe removers between E dances, What an Xmas send offl E JANUARY E 2-The first day of school this year, and E even this ceased to be funny after I E had heard about it fifty-eleven times. But coming back was when we whooped it up, being as how we won the game from N. C.! -Those discouraging tales that float over from Nibley Hall about how the chorus can't sing above the orchestra makes me think that even the talented have troubles. --l heard Qand from a very good sourcej that Nibley Hall is changing her make- up. VC'hat is the modern world coming to? -The old saying, Your brain's as dry as a soda cracker just filled my mid- attiude to a T. Could the year test basketball team have felt the same way to let them beat us? in Ogden -The game with Box Elder was too close to be comfortable, and I worked up a genuine headache. Yet I couldn't help but wonder, after that May Pole dance, how the L. P.'s could pick goats with such fascinating legs. -Trunkful upon trunkful of dyed union suits arrived for the opera. The poor kids who had nerve enough to wear them certainly earned the school vaca- tion they got for practice. FEBRUARY -I turned out to be a soloist in class today, since I seemed to be the only untalented Senior. The opera cast seemed to be able to do well without me. llllllllllIllllllllllllllllllIllllllllllllllllIlllllllllllllllllllll 2-Weber basketball game and the Opera -both were successful from I.0gan's strmdpoint-which justifies my fatigue from running to and fro. 6-Nobody ever thought it of me, but to be a radio star is my secret desire. Lavoir Card's speech in assembly today was like feeding a fire kerosene, the wily my hopes boomed up. 7-Life's just one string of misery to me when I have to try to convince some poor fellow to become my sweetheart for one evening so I can go to the Swcethcart's party. 8-Those poor Sophs and Juniors had to go and get their maps imprinted for the annual rogues gallery! QSeniors alone, in the last two years, probably didn't look desperate enough.j 9-It seems to me I heard something about Logan winning from. Hear River today. 12--Back to school after a perfectly dee- vine party at the hotel., All the girls' hair looked so nice in school fremains of the partyj I hardly knew them. XVe had a very fine assembly in honor of Lincoln. I3-The college sent down some students to sing from Il Trovatoref' I'll bet they could sing Smoke Gets in Your Eyes grand. I4-Oh, boy-did I have fun sending valentines today. They were sure mean ones-and if anyone hears it was me who done it I'm afraid my earthly hours will be numbered. 16-Goodness, but Mr. Ott Romney is a nice man. 22--Claude Wennergren finally talked the judges into giving him a medal in the S. The cracks in the building seemed to create more anxiety than our daily preparation, so we were excused to go home at noon. --As birds follow summer, so students follow teams. What with four in a bed and one in a tub, eating at Kresses, hotel souvenirs, and incidently a basketball game, I felt my fifty cents was well spent. --I made my stage debuttee in Senior Hits.
