Makin’ the Moves Two clubs at LHS this year mak- ing new moves and more moves were the Varsity L and the Chess Club. The Varsity L Club is com- posed of any student who has received a letter in a varsity sport. The Varsity L, advised by Greg Frauntfelter, was kept busy throughout the year with many ac- tivities. They sponsored the annual Lift-A-Thon in February, when athletes asked people to pledge any amount of money per pound the athlete lifted. Money from this event was used for weights, a new crash pad for track, and new baseball catcher's mits. The group sponsored two new events for the year. The first, held in conjunction with the American Heart Fund Association, was held the first weekend in March. For this event, members also accepted pledges from people for time jumped, either by minute or hour. The second of the two new events was a race called the Shamrock 7” road race. The race was held the weekend before St. Patrick's Day. The race was a 7 mile race held out Walnut Dowler Road. The top runners in the male and female categories each received a pair of running shoes. The Chess Club is another club at LHS who's main interest is mak- ing moves. The Chess Club was advised by Mr. Leroy Truesdell and made up of chess enthusiasts from grades 9-12. The club met on a regular basis and members com- peted against each other.
