AERIAL LOGAN SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL LOGAN, OHIO FOREWORD The purpose of the 1969 Aerial is to present a history in pictures and words of the past school year. We have at- tempted to represent the Student and all phases of school life involving the students—their efforts and accomplish- ments, faculty, classes, and activities. High School life too quickly ends, and the seemingly never-ending tasks, the trivial events, and the familiar sights and sounds become fond mem- ories. Hopefully, this Aerial may be a portfolio of those memories. MINNIE L. BOWEN IN MEMORY The pupils of the Logan schools and the people of the community recognize the sincere efforts of Miss Bowen, who devoted her entire teaching career to develop an appreciation of music in the lives of many. As her health was failing, she continued to.plan and work for the future welfare of her classes. To Miss Bowen and her life of song during her thirty-seven years of de- pendable and loyal service, this Aerial is dedicated. CLASS OF 1969 Motto— So little done; so much to do.” Colors—Yellow and Spring Green Flower—White Daisy As we walk slowly forward To the traditional music rhyme, Our minds float on a distant note To schooldays left behind. For now we’ll soon be parting, Each to pursue his career; But the friends we've made will never fade, We’ll always hold them near. Our teachers we shall ne’er forget; They’ve helped us on our way. Although they’ve scolded, they’ve also molded And brought us here today. When that first bell rings next fall And our successors mount the hill, We’ll fondly remember our first September And wish it were that time still. And now as Chieftains off to war We say our last goodbye. Move ever on to meet the dawn Farewell dear Logan High. —Suellen Smith TURN AROUND (sung to tune of Turn Around, Look at Me.”) POEM The time has come now, We’ve finally made it. All our dreams have come true Now the future is in our own hands, Turn around to our dreams. As we journey into the future, Let our hearts lead the way. And then some day We will remember All the times we enjoyed. All our schoolmates, Will really miss us, Oh, we’ve waited, Oh, how we’ve waited For this day to finally come Turn around, turn around, This is our last look. Turn around and say goodbye As we leave them all behind. And we know, and we know Look at us, we will not fail. and say goodbye. —Claudette McPheron 42 From lop to bottom: Class President, Gary Rollins; Secretary, Bill Shaw; Treasurer, Betty Walsh; Vice-Presi dent, Norma Ruff CLASS OF ’70 43 Eugene Adams Monty Amos Janet Anderson Linda Anderson Patty Au Diane Bailey Glendora Baker Cindy Baker Nancy Barron Barbara Bartlett Jim Bartholomew Linda Bartley Mike Bazell Barb Belcher Dana Beougher Diane Blackson Paul Blosser Susan Boyd Neal Brady Charlie Brown Jan Brown Mike Brown Phyliss Brown Sharia Bryant Pam Buckles Maragaret Buerhaus Herbie Buhrts Bill Campbell Valorie Carpenter Gary Cecil Tony Chesser Eddie Croucher Nancy Chute Mike Comstock Mona Cottrill Ron Cottrill 44 Bob Cruise Randall Curry Doug Daubenmire Glen Derr Debbie Dietz Stella Donley Diane Doughman Janet Eagon Bonnie Ecklberry Angie Emrick Dennis Fetty Robert Fisher Tom Fraizer Cathy Geiger Patty Giffin Debby Good Brenda Goss Alice Green Joe Griffin Rich Griffin Becky Hall Linda Hall Scott Harden Steve Hampshire Teressa Harris Paula Harrison Peggy Hart Mike Hartman Cindy Heinlein Loraine Helber Edna Herring Paul Hicks Barbara Hood Karen Howdyshell Sharon Howdyshell Bill Hoy 45 Joe Hoy Jerry Huber Richard Huffines Ken Humphrey Tom Houston Jenny Hutchison Jon Hutchison Buddy Inboden Martha Inboden Carolyn Johnson Penny Johnson Rick Johnson Bob Johnston Connie Jones Kenny Jenkins Jim Kalklosch Jim Kelch Bonnie Keslar Tim Kline Brenda Kollister Paul Kruetz Brenda Lightfoot Greg Lightfoot Bob Lindsey Chuck Little Chuck Lowe Bruce Lytle Leroy Mace John Matthews Phyllis Martin Dennis McCune Pam McDole John McFadden Velinda Milan Brian Miller Mary Ann Miller 46 Jane Mitchell Jim Mike Mock Bruce Morgan Diane Mount Judy Mowery Dean Mowery Kathy Oberlin Gladys O’Rourke Marsha Orr Sandy Owings Diane Pavlik LaDonna Peppers Quenton Perez Beth Phares Marsha Pierson Larry Poling Judy Proctor Dave Rectenwaldt Chris Reider Rick Reinscheld Jim Bob Richards Lori Ricketts Paula Riley Steve Robb Gary Rollins Ann Rooker Bob Rooker Patty Rowland Norma Ruff Sue Rush Dan Sargent Carolyn Sater Buddy Saunders Carolyn Saunders Tom Saunders Roger Schrader 47 Mike Schultz Mike Scott David Sharb Bill Shaw Tom Shields Janet Shull Cindy Siehl Janet Sigman Steve Six Buddy Skiver Cathy Smith Barb Smith Pam Smith Cathy Slusher Valerie Spradlin Patty Stephen Jo Ann Stivison Kathy Strawn Angela Struble Linda Sycks Roger Thompson Barbara Thrush Barb Tschappat Mike Tucker Hester Turner Shelia Turner Roy Vickers Libby Voilmer Russell Wade Mike Walker Shirley Walker Debbie Walls Betty Walsh Nancy Waugh Karen Weaver Gloria Westenbarger 48 Barb Whitcraft Janet White Dwight Wilson Janis Wimer Arlen Wolfe Danny Wolfe Tim Woodgeard Patricia Woolery Melonie Wray Bonnie Yates Cheryl Edwards Debbie Scaparotti 49 SOPHOMORE CLASS OFFICERS 'Treasurer, Elaine Campbell; Members of this club enjoy the variety of activities included in their service to other students and teachers. They learn to catalogue, classify, and circulate the books. They also aid in the technical preparation of the books for the shelves. Being a librarian has many advantages. The student librarians have to be accurate, civic-minded, and responsible. Since the school library participates in activities created elsewhere in the school, and also by itself in activities, it is particularly able to sponsor, to capture, to hold the interest of pupils in reading published materials and to make them active and intelligent users of the library, both for pleasure reading and for research. The library members have as their slogan: You never graduate from the library (school, public, or college).” 75 First row: Betsy Gafke, Lynn Bryan, Treasurer; Susan Oberiin, Vice-President; Linda Dalton, President; Linda McCune, Secretary; John Light, Parliamentarian; Jill Hahn, Janet Miller. Bowen NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Membership in the National Honor Society has become recognized nationally as one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a high-school student. Membership is, however, more than an honor; it carries with it a responsibility and should be considered the beginning of an obligation, not merely the successful culmination of an effort to achieve recognition and honor. Once selected for membership, a student is singled out. He should not only continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities which brought about his selection, but he should also exert a new influence to improve conditions about him and promote those qualities, Leadership, Character, Scholarship, and Service, for which the National Honor Society stands. Every two weeks, the students published a page in the Logan Daily News. The Chieftain Hi-Lites was a cross section of all facets of school life: students, faculty, sports, and other activities involving the students. The class was an attempt to familiarize the students with the journalism system. Through the preparation of the Hi-Lites page, the journalism class learned the frustration and the satisfaction of doing their own interviewing, copy writing, proofreading, re- writing, and, finally, the reading of the final print. For our first league victory, we beat a top team, Jackson; then we beat Nelson ville-York without too much difficulty. A questionable close loss to Athens followed. In our next league game against Meigs, we opened strong but ran out of gas during the second half but won regardless. Our next loss was a Gallipolis followed by a win over Wellson. By winning our last league game with Ironton, we placed second in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League. We ended our season with an out-of-league game with Vinton, in which most of our Reserves played.
