 The falling leaves drift by my window, Those autumn leaves of red and gold . . . And to the high school mind there comes a vague, exalted sense of lucidity. Im- posed by the mystic, invigorating crispness which displaces the mellowness of fading summer, this feeling—a composite of renewed mental vigor, sadness, and a tingling in the blood—is the very best one for going back to school, learning new facts, ideas, processes, enjoying football games, marching in the band, attending wiener roasts, pil- ing on wagons filled with hay, kicking your way home through fallen leaves, and singing old, romantic songs. Fall is a wonder! 10

OUR FACULTY In the tall a student's fancies lightly turn to thoughts of . . . old friends, valued friends—our teachers. Back from the universities and summer positions they come to do a job we can't envy them. In spite of headaches and frustrations by the score, they succeed in making us think . . . about verbs, and square roots, and amoebas, and presidential elections, and physics formulae, and Macbeth's di- lemma, ad infinitum—no small task. For guidance and advice, for organization sponsor- ship, for all the little chores and plans they help us with, we owe them our thanks.
