1986 COUGAR Presented by 1986 Cougar Staff Logan County High School Route 6 Box 850 Russellville, Kentucky 42276 School Days — School Ways With around 900 students attending LCHS the 1985-1986 school year started with a bang! Students got back into the trend of finding new classes, having new teachers, meeting new people and making new friends. Leading high school days and following high school ways were shocking to some new students. Back to school traditions like the annual fight for top lockers . . . then the competitive art of decorating them uniquely or the mad shuffle to change schedules be- gan the daze of our school year. Being different but being yourself is definitely the motto for COUGAR life. We’ve spent precious moments talking in the halls between classes, gossiping with friends, catching the bus or trying to find a ride home. We’ll always cherish our high school days . . . cutting through the court- yard, running to class, rushing to homeroom. Togeth- er we have built our memories . . . working . . trying . . . striving . . . living . . . loving . . . it's all a part of our daily life at LCHS. 2 School Daze The special times are in our hearts forever. Togeth- er we’ve built memories that will last forever. From “clowning around” in homeroom and being with friends to celebrating a teacher's birthday — our memories live on. We've shared some of the greatest times in our lives but it wasn’t all play. From welding in Ag Mechanics and writing computer programs to cooking in Home Ec., we've taken part in almost everything — classwork, homework, studying, smil- ing, laughing, sharing — it's all a part of our daily life at LCHS. 3 A year of firsts — first football homecoming, first AP classes, first full year of an academic team, first class officer campaigns, first early morning detention hall, and the first graduating class to have attended Logan County High School all four years. 1985 1986 Through these first four years we’ve seen both the students and rules come and go. The changes have been great but the rewards have made it all worthwhile. Through teacher and student cooperation we’ve made L.C.H.S. work. So, underclass- men, make your own “firsts” while keeping the best of ours. ■ Of Firsts” 5 vX 7 8 Getting Organized The life of an L.C.H.S. student is usually hectic. Aside from the heavy academic load many students have, many students are also involved in at least one of the organizations or sports at L.C.H.S. The Beta Club consists of those students with a 95 or above average. The Beta Club is devoted to improving everyone's future by helping those in need. F.H.A. is dedicated to improving everyone’s future. Each home economics class is based on psychology or home improvement. F.F.A. is concerned with the production and preser- ” vation of our world. F.F.A. teaches both boys and girls the best ways to farm and what machinery to use. The Yearbook Staff may be the hardest working organization at L.C.H.S. Each student is assigned a job and they are expected to meet certain deadlines. After the deadlines are met, the Yearbook Staff has a party to celebrate and relax. There are many competitive organizations at L.C.H.S. The football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis and academic teams all strive for excellence. The practice sessions are long and hard but some try to liven up even the roughest practices as shown by our football team and coach. The L.C.H.S. band, with over 30 freshman, is also a hard-working, competitive organization. Most of the days in class arc spent practicing for the many parades and field shows the band attends through- out the school year. Being in school and in an organization can make your life hectic. However, the organizations at L.C.H.S. give each student an opportunity to feel they are I involved in something worthwhile. 9 Karen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernice Beas- ley and is a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies include water skiing, swimming, tennis and being with friends. Karen is a member of the Diamond Club, FHA, FCA and Spanish Club. Karen plans to attend Western Kentucky University but is undecided about a major at this time. Mr. And Miss LCHS Karen Beasley And Eric Raby Eric is the son of Mr. Rodney Raby and Mrs. Mary Nell Robertson and is a member of First Baptist Church. Eric enjoys swimming, softball and being outdoors. He is the President of FFA and the Senior Class. Eric has been a member of Student Council for four years. Eric plans to attend Austin Peay University and major in an agricultural field. John is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Maxwell and is a member of Crittenden Drive Church of Christ. His hobbies include football, motorcycles and hunting. John has been a member of the football team for two years and was a member of the basketball team his freshman year. John is also a member of FCA and FBLA, serving as Vice-President. John plans to attend Western Kentucky University and major in Accounting. Mr. And Miss Senior Robin Barton And John Maxwell Robin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J .P. Barton and is a member of Green Ridge Baptist Church. Her hob- bies include reading, playing tennis and spending time with friends. Robin is a member of FHA and Diamond Club and is Vice-President of both Student Council and Beta Club. Robin plans to attend Western Kentucky University and major in business. LOOKING BACK Looking back I see these faces and all the same familiar traces. I see you laugh and hear you cry and watch you slowly say goodbye. We smile and say we'll keep in touch. We'll cherish these moments we love so much. We'll keep twelve years of love in our hearts And promise we will never part. And as we shed that one last tear. We remember this cherished Senior year. The memories shared, and time that's spent We’ll never know how much they meant. And as you change your carefree ways. Your mind will fall to freedom days. Those limes of love, and hurt and lies Will gently fade with our goodbyes. So now we go our separate ways And look back seldom through the haze We'll grow, and change and learn a lot And someday when you think you've forgot — You'll look back and see those faces. Your mind will fall onto those places. So to all you seniors of LCHS My love I send, because you're THE BEST!!! Lewisburg. Olmstcad. Auburn. Adairvillc and Chandlers into one high school. In the fall of 1982. we the graduating class of 1986, took a big step forward as the first freshman of Logan County High School; thus making our class the first to attend LCHS all four years of high school. The Class of 1986 has gone through many events together. The most important is the transition from one of five county schools to a consolidated high school which occurred our freshman year. However, the most exciting event may have been winning the Kentucky State Basketball Tournament our sophomore year. Football has also come into its own this year. Winning games, choosing the first Football Homecoming Queen and attending games are now a part of our school. Academic Team meets arc also becoming a regular part of our day. We have beaten several neighboring schools with our academic talents. Also, the aca- demic load of a student now has greatly increased and students arc no longer loafing in school. This year's seniors have seen a complete turn-around in the academic expectations from teach- ers Part of this comes from the fact that the public and the Kentucky Education Department has demanded a re-structuring ol the school day. We are wondering if the pendulum may not be swinging the other way a little too much. Many students arc Imding it hard to keep up with all the demands of school, work and the home. Our junior year was filled with all the traditional events such as ordering class rings, planning the junior-senior prom, and being an usher or usherette at graduation. Of course our senior year is packed with many special happenings from ordering caps and gowns to the final night of graduation. In the fall of 1974, 273 jittery, snotty-nosed youngsters entered first grade. Our eight years of sand boxes, recesses, jump rope and puppy love — all those simple carefree pleasures — seem to fade so fast. Then in the fall of 1982, 261 anxious freshmen entered the doors of LCHS to begin that awesome task — a high school education. Since that time we have lost 96 classmates for various reasons. We have had 10 new students join our class since ninth grade. We are now 176 strong and ready to conquer the world We, the Class of 1986, would like to wish the future graduates of Logan County High School the Best of Luck and urge them to make their own memories. The past four years at Logan County High School will be remembered and treasured in our hearts forever. We would like to thank everyone who played a role in our high school years as we say “Good-bye to LCHS. When graduation comes in May of 1986 we will be very proud to be known as Alumni of Logan County High School. This year it came to life on the L.C.H.S. stage in a November production by the Fourth Period Drama Class. On the surface the play is about the courtship and marriage of George Gibbs and Emily Webb (played by Chris Robinson and Lara Sanford) along with Emily’s death. Yet it is more, since it relates to all our lives. Others in key roles included Butch McMurray, LaJoy Osborne, Mark Woodward, Sara Ward. Thomas Covington, and Regina Sweatt. The Cougars muscled out five hard victories, one by forfeit to Pulaski County. We had one player on the All-South Central Kentucky Team, Ron Sams, a junior. He ws the leading yard gainer at the split end position in the area. Logan County also placed two players on the All Western Kentucky Conference Team, Ron Sams and Tom Covington. All in all it was a good year with evidence that we should have many fine years to come. LOGAN COUNTY COUGAR Football Results Date Opponent Place We They Aug. 23 Greenville Home 6-20 30 Adair Co. The laughter and the tears, I won’t forget soon. Our school days will Soon come to an end. It seems to have Passed like a cool summer wind. I wish I could live my senior year All over again. But there are other things to do — A new life to begin. But remember this as we Go our separate ways. The memories of my friends Will never fade.
