I remember that first frightening day As though it were yesterday. I remember learning my ABC’s And playing together, busy as bees. I remember reaching second grade And feeling proud of the progress I’d made I remember the games and the fun And shooting each other with a stick gun. I remember jumping and skipping And getting an occasional whipping. 1 remember standing with my nose to the wall | And being sent out to the hall. I remember complaining about school lunches And having homework in bundles and bunches. I remember the people who came and went, And I remember all the pencils 1 “lent.” 1 remember happy times and laughter. And movies and popcorn and a hamburger after. But mostly 1 remember friends that are true, And when 1 think of this I think of you. The memories hang heavy on my mind. We were put in an environment that was completely new and different to us. We did not know very many people nor did we know the location of our classes. Now that we are in our last year of high school it seems as if we have attended Logan County High all of our lives. Our past three years at Logan County High School have been very memorable for all of us. We have met so many new classmates and teachers. We have been able to add many new courses to our cur- riculum. We have used computers, electric typewriters and several instruments in the chemistry lab. One of the most exciting experiences we have had is the thrill of not only going to the 1984 state tournament, but also winning the state championship. Certainly no one that was able to go will ever forget the excitement of that experience. We would like to thank our teachers for all the guidance and knowledge they have shared with us. They have spent many hours explaining assignments for the umpteenth time so that they might seem just a little clearer. Without this patience, we would not have been able to obtain the knowledge we now possess. We especially would like to thank our parents for all the support they have given us. An education and the opportunity to greatly improve ourselves would have been impossible without their love, guidance, and financial support. It is truly an honor to be a member of the Class of 1985. We, the COUGAR STAFF, dedicate this Special Good Bye to our fellow classmates because you are the greatest! Honor Students Honor Students consist of those students who have compiled a 94.5 grade point average during their first three years of high school. Shaw replied, the man George Bernard Shaw could have been, but never was. These were the words of a man who, nearing his life’s end, could only express regret for what might have been. In essence, Shaw was yearning for the opportunities of youth. My fellow seniors, today the endless opportunities of youth are ours! We can take advantage of them, or we can throw them away. The choice is our own. As we leave the security of what is familiar and face the future, we should be aware of what can lie ahead. After graduation, we will have reached a fork in the road of our lives. One road, dusty and well-traveled, is the road taken by the majority; the other, grassy and wanting wear, is the road taken by the ambitious and the deter- mined _ or by the dreamers. The worn road is decidedly easier to travel. Conformity is always less straining than individuality. Yet, the best in life is not attained easily. In The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost followed the less traveled way. .. And that has made all the difference. I urge you to follow Robert Frost and me down the rougher road, that we may all share in the limitless treasures at its end. There were only two bands chosen from Kentucky to participate. Larry Forgy, a native of Lewisburg. was called on by President Reagan to head the State of Kentucky in his re-election campaign. Since Reagan carried the state in the November general election he asked Forgy to choose the honorary band from the Commonwealth. The other band from Kentucky to perform was the Grayson County High School Band, who won out over lx gan County and several other schools in a competitive bid for an invitation to the nation's capitol. While the invitation created a lot of excitement in the county, it meant a lot of work for band members, parents and band instructors. Mrs. Bayles and Mr. French. Mrs. Bayles estimated about $20,000.00 would be needed for expenses. The band boosters raised money in various ways such as donations, a benefit dinner in which Larry Forgy and Carroll Hubbard both came and spoke and each band member contributed $50.00 toward expenses. Seventy-nine band members and twenty-seven chaperones boarded three buses on Friday evening at Logan County High School at 5:30 bound for Washington, D.C. A fourth bus followed with interested citizens from the county. The group had reservations at Best Western in Springfield, Virginia. However, upon arrival in the capitol the weather was the coldest on record for the inauguration. On Sunday night. President Reagan asked his inaugural committee to call off the outdoor ceremony; thereby, cancelling the inaugural parade which had been expected to attract as many as 350,000 spectators and costing 12 million dollars. However, our group reported a great time. The group did more touring and sightseeing in the capitol than was originally planned. President Reagan and Vice-President Bush and their wives planned a rally at the Capitol Center Monday for the bands to attend and each spoke to the group. This was the highlight of the trip and generated a feeling akin to the feeling our students felt in Rupp Arena a vear earlier when our basketball team was making history. The weather — snow, ice and zero temperatures — continued to plague our group. The tired but thankful and excited group returned to the Land of Logan on Tuesday night about 7:30 amidst the worst weather conditions. All members reported a trip that they would never forget. White, represented Auburn American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary at Girls’ State held at Morehead State University last June. Girls’ State is held each year for girls who have finished their junior year in high school in order for them to become more acquainted with Kentucky state government. Each girl participates in a mock government which begins at the town council level and ends with the election of a Kentucky Girls’ State Governor. The different government bodies are actually formed as goverment bodies. In addition to daily government business, Girls’ State was a fun time with parties, sports, swimming and a formal banquet. While there, Michelle served as President Pro- Tem of the Senate, presiding over four sessions. She also made very many friends from all over the State, some of which she looks forward to meeting again in college. Academic Team Logan County High School has joined the trend toward more emphasis on academic ex- cellence. The Logan Board of Education funded an Academic Team in December of this school year. Mr. Mark Bennett is the coach. The team is com- posed of volunteer students in grades 9 thru 12. They meet after school three times each week to practice. Logan County High School has scheduled some meets with area schools this spring. The team also looks forward to participating in Scholastic Challenge on KET next year.
