An-LL.-...a.n,ma-.,g, A my and lllfy me f Vietnam is far from a Saturday after- noon football game but here while both for- ces were busy waging War, we took out a few hours to exchange Visits. A small group of LOFBERG people got to ride an Army helicopter to see a ll Corps ShoBom mis- sion from the receiving end. Then in return a group of Army Officers and men came aboard for a one day visit to see a Navy Destroyer shoot and rearm at sea. The visits were most enjoyable for all concerned and interesting to all of us. Sascha aa af japan llak asaka LOFBERG's original schedule called for her to complete her ShoBom missions in January and thenescort the USS CGRAL SEA home via Yokosuka., J apan, At about this same time the world was shocked by the boarding and seizure of the USS PUEBLO by the North Korean government, and the Navy was called upon to act. LOFBERG was a prime unit for selection in this new Naval action. Although warweary and eager to re- turn home, she Was well trained for any as- signment and in as good an operating condi- tion as any time in her history. From Subic Bay we returned to the Viet- namese War Zone to shoot and be shot at by Viet Cong in I Corps near the DMZ. From Vietnam we steamed to Sasebo, Japan then on into the Sea of Japan to continue the Naval pressure put on the Korean communists. These swift reassignments made quick self-adjustment manditory both in the pace of operations and in the climate under which We had to work. LOFBERG responded ad- mirably to every demand placed on her and she can Well be proud of the way the true spirit of destroyermen was carried on.
