The quartermasters serve as an assistant to the OOD and navigator, plotting the ship's position and course, Most often seen keeping their log or taking ranges and bearings. QM's also procure and correct hydrographic charts and are responsible for knowledge of honors and ceremonies, rules of the road and maintaining correct navigational time aboard ship.
