In our Sophomore year we were saddened by the automob11e accldents wh1ch caused the traglc loss of two of our classmates Jack Carpenter and Bob Benson who w11l be remembered throughout our l1ves Our J unlor year brought sorrow agam 1n another trag1c death that of J 1m WIISOU 1n an automobile accxdent whlch brought to an abrupt end the l1fe of one of the best students 1n our class We have ITl1SSCd h1s f1ne mind and v1tal personallty very much. -Our flrst class play was a frlghtemng success as you can see from 1ts t1tle THE SKELETON WALKS Some fun! We recelved Gene Hrgh .Tlm Miller and Phyllls K1tzm111er ln our .Tumor year and Barbara Schuur and Nlck Varney 1n our Semor year The v1tal SIZIISIICS from our Semor year shows us that our hst of class members has grown much shorter lately Th1s fact 1S caused by nothmg less than the peal of wedd1ng bells Yes Esther Bates Beverly w1ves at home. We nuss them but w1sh them every happxness 1n thelr new careers of homemakers No teachers to please no ass1gnments to prepare' Barbara Schuur and Phylhs Kltzmlller also marrled but remained w1th us to graduate We had a lot of fun w1th WE SHOOK THE FAMILY 'I'REE another great dramatlc productton of the Class of 1958 Our annual has requ1red much work and even more proddlng by our capable edltor Jamce Hopkms but we have f1nally f1n1shed IL All of us who went on our Semor Class Trlp to New York really had a wonderful tune Mr We1r has been our sponsor and counselor for our last four years in school and what a f1.ne one he has beenl We have been slow m telling you how much we appreclate your gutdance Mr We1r but please accept thts expresslon of our thanks here ln our yearbook for all to read. Class History It was a great day 1n the hlstory of Lodt School when the Class of '58 Jomed the ranks Mrs Fuller was overjoyed to greet 32 angehc faces and even more over1oyed to see M1ss Loomts fnow Mrs Huttonj greet us the next year Those were our healthler years w1th generous doses of ftgs mtlk cod l1ver 011 and crackers admmistered da1ly UGH There were several buddtng romances but none that lasted Tom Phtlhps Jomed us th1s year One of the best remembered years tn school was our th1rd when we developed the arts of roller skaung sword ftghtmg wxth yard st1cks wrestlmg and at all IIITICS maklng general nu1sances of ourselves We d hke M1ss Parrot to know we enJoyed It but we feel sorry for the rough treatment we gave her We enjoyed greetmg Bonme Bratnard th1s year A dlfferent kxnd of sk1l1 was acqu1red in the 4th grade taught by M1ss Morton. We made btrd feeders and waste baskets We presented our frrst dramatlc productton THE FIRST THANKSGIVING whtch was a great success the flfth grade th1s year we were Introduced to our stxth grade teacher Mrs Harmon who very pat1ently9'7 taught us to wr1te properly The next year we really toed the mark and almost all of us recetved perfect grades IH all subJects We feven the boysj were very sk1lled tn huck towelmg em brotdery We met Fred Eglm Betty MoCla1n and Carolyn Lance tn the flfth grade and Llnda S pellman 1n the stxth We felt tremendously lmportant when we arrxved tn the h1gh school bu1ld1ng as seventh graders Our acuons must have been frlghtful, as they caused M1ss Wllhelm to shed so many tears of dtscouragernent Th1s 1S when we began to be the most amblttous and prosperous class 1n the htstory of Lod1 l-hgh School In the followmg year Mrs Schafer prepared us for our entrance mto hlgh school. Oh boy we were really prepared Betty Harrts Jotned us 1n the etghth grade The Chatham and Lafayette pup1ls entered our class 1n our Freshman year B111 Grun Doug Thayer E1S1C Mtller and Pat Sktdmore Jxm Lee also became one of us Under Mr We1r s wonderful leadershtp we contmued to prosper and were glad to learn that he was to stay w1th us untxl we graduated.
