(isnt THE CLASS OF '57 PRESENTS THE BIG “L” LODI HIGH SCHOOL LODI , OHIO, rr NURI TTS DIPS nga na ren DEDICATION GEORGE GEDOS DAVE FRIEND BOB GASSER DEDICATION We, the members of the graduating class of 1957, pause at this stepping stone of our lives to remember three classmates who have been taken from our midst. Robert Gasser, who died of polio in 1952, and Dave Friend and George Gedos, who were involved in a traffic fatality in 1955. Surely God has great plans for them. THANKS TO MR, DUNHAM FROM THE CLASS OF ‘57. MR, WILLIAM DUNHAM The graduating class of 1957 would like to thank Mr. William Dunham for his expert advice and help through the three years of leadership. His outstanding loyalty has been greatly appreciated by all in the class. THANKS AGAIN ite Clio om OM oad. IN MEMORY OF JAMES WILSON ATHLETE’S PRAYER Dear God: Help me to be asportinthis little game of life, I don’t ask for any place in the line- up; play me where you need me, I only ask for the stuff to give you a hundred per cent of what Pve got. Ifallthehard drives come my way I thank you for the compliment. Help me to remember that You won’t let anything come that You and I together can’t handle, And help me to take the badbreaks as part of the game. Help make me thankful for them. ‘ And, God, help me always to play on the square, no matter what the other players do. Help me to comeclean, Help me to see that often the best part of the game is helping the other guys. Help me to be a ‘‘regular’’ fellow with the other players. ‘ Finally, God, if fate seems to uppercut me with both hands and I'm laid up on the shelf in sickness or in death, help me to take that as part of the game also. Help me not to whimper or squeal that the game wasa frame-up or that I had a raw deal, When in the dusk I get the final bell, I ask for no lying, no complimentary stones. Id only like to know that YOU feel I’ve been a good guy.” --CHAPLAIN’S DIGEST 6 YY 5252 OO?) TIME FOR FACULTY MR, WILBUR S, WOOD, A.B., M.A. Superintendent, Social Studies MRS, VIRGINIA SPIREK MR. Pat Jack CLASS HISTORY The September day dawned bright and early. This was it! The fateful day in 1945. Of the thirty-four brave and eager students who traipsed up the walk to Lodi school that morning to be greeted by Mrs. Fuller, only Betty Amheiser, Patsy Baird, Harry Baker, Jerry Chapman, Ken Carver, Ronnie Fetzer, Sandy Fisher, Janice Kindig, Jack Leggett, Rachel Lawton, Margaret Leatherman, Nancy Lewis, Jerry Payn, Dee Roberts, Tom Scott, Connie Underwood, Janet Underwood, Tom Wilson, John Yost, and Trudy Wood have braved the tides and tempests of twelve years together. In the second grade we were met by Miss Loomis, now Mrs. Hutton. We had become too much for Trudy Wood and she left. Don Gilbert joined us this year, Miss Grimm was our third grade teacher, Here most of us got our first lesson in discipline. On to the fourth grade to meet Miss Morton and to be joined by Trudy Wood and George Gedos. This year we tried our hand at being cultured with many displays of talent. Finally we made it upstairs. Here we encountered Miss Cummins. With this year came some ‘‘hot’’ romances. How about it Dee? The year also brought great (?) additions to our class in the forms of John Ferguson and John Egbert. We entered the sixth grade under the leadership of Mrs, Harmon. This is where we got our second lesson in discipline, However, we ruled the roost and Barbara Sanford joined our class. At last! Junior High School! Mr, Weagraff greeted us in our home room, This year our class was increased by the presence of Ray Miller and John Underwood, We got our first taste of detention hall this year. We now reached the stage of ‘‘ adolescent little brats,’? according to our teacher, Mrs. Schafer. Three of our girls held their first cheerleading positions this year. Out of Junior High and into high school, We turned all our charm on for Miss Carroll this year, but we must have been too much for her. The FFA Sweetheart Queen was elected from our room. The kids from Chatam, Delbert Miller, Charlene Brinker, Spud Brinker, and Walter Hall joined the fold. Sophomores! We turned to Mr, Dunham for guidance and somehow he braved the storm and stayed with us the rest of our high school life. We got to order our class rings this year. Some of the girls in Dramatic Club presented a skit at the Christmas Assembly this year. The first week of our Junior year our class rings arrived and were we thrilled! Our class play, ‘‘Off the Track’? was a smashing success. Plans for a great Junior and Senior Banquet got under way. We held the first all-night Prom in the school’s history, It was really great. Dave Friend entered this year to add a few more brains to an already brilliant class. One great tragedy befell the class this year. The tragic death of George Gedos and Dave Friend were mourned by all of us. Now graduation day is near. The trip to New Yorkis over. We are all keeping our fingers crossed until the diploma is signed, ergs SG CLASS PROPHECY Headquarters have just received an on-the-spot report, bird’s-eye-view of the class of ’57 from Radioman John Underwood, aboard the Flying Soup Bowl, flown by Ray Miller. This complex skyship was designed by Margaret Leatherman, who often week-ends out in space. Returning from the moon, your reporter in the saucer stopped first at the North Pole to see how Dave Samsa was doing in his attempt to sell Eskimo Pies to the Eskimos. He can retire soon on his in- come, Flying across New York we find our former classmate, Patsy Baird in the starring role of ‘‘Little Green Men’? which was written by Sandy Fisher. The source of material was from the log book of the Flying Saucer, In Pittsburgh we call on John Egbert busily working in the steel mills. Why Pittsburgh, Red? Landing at Hiram, Ohio, we find Janice Kindig. She is the youngest Professor of Science ever to teach at Hiram College. Her individual contribution to this field is her study of the social behavior of human seniors. On through Washington to listen to Don Gilbert’s speech agaist Labor Unions. Taking the other side of the debate we find the great orator, Tom Scott. We notice the Ladies Gallery is crowded, At Purdue University we were surprised but happy to learn of Jack Leggett’s appointment to the Director of Agriculture, He is promoting a program of elimination of flies in classrooms. The next member of the class we may interview in Daytona Beach, Florida, It is none other than the driver of the ‘‘Golden Whirlwind,’’ Harry Baker, and his chief mechanic, Walter ‘‘Boob’’ Hall. They care- fully keep the silver cups but spend the prize money. Turning West we catch up with the famous basketball star, Ken Carver, and his wife, the former Trudy Wood, they’ve been with the pro team champions for two years now. Trudy Sells hot chocolate to the players during halves, On to Texas where we find Dee Roberts leading an all-cow-girl band featuring Nancy Lewis on the drums and Dee as vocalist. Next to Iowa where we find Janet Underwood raising hogs to supply Underwood’s Meat Market. In San Francisco we find John Ferguson the famed half-back of the 49ers. Just off the coast we find Tom Wilson, head doctor at Alkatraz, talking to his assistants, Spud Brinker and Del Miller, Now to China where Jerry Payn is conducting classes for the Chinese on how to grow rice. In Russia we find the former Connie Underwood working with her husband Admiral Gynn. Sweden brings us Charlene Brinker and Janice Young with a patent for a new formula shampoo for blonds, A few minutes later in Paris we come to the famed Lawson Paris Originals Shop run by designer Barbara Sanford and seastress Rachel Lawton. With haircuts in order by the time we reach Spain we stopped at the shop run by the famous Betty Amheiser and her husband, Larry, featuring their newest creation the ‘‘Bulls-Tail.’’ Of course you’ve heard about the new coliseum being built in Rome, Well, that is Ronnie Fetzer’s pet masonry job. We stopped in the heart of Africatosee John Yost but he was busy modeling for an ad featuring a tall, dark, and handsome man, At least he is taller than the pygmies. In Australia we find the famous hunter, Jerry Chapman, who has killed many of the Australian rabbits. From this quick report you can tell the class of 1957, of Lodi High School is doing very well.
