Dear Betty , Well, I thought it was about time that I was answering your letter. How are the kids and all of the folks up your way? Gosh, Betty, it doesn't seem like it has been twenty years since the class of '56 graduat- ed, does it? In your last letter you asked me if I knew anything about the class. Well, it seems I know where everyone of them are and what they are doing. As you can remember, our class was always very independent and original. Here is what we did two years after we graduated. We had a small reunion and our president, Iack Bittner, put a very good idea up to the class. We had been thinking about it for a long time and finally we decided it was time to take action. The idea was for everyone to pitch in all of his dollars and cents and buy a small piece of land down in Texas and raise cattle and other stuff. Well, everyone just fell for the idea. right away, but the main objection was , we didn't have any dollars and cents to pitch in, so we went out and raised some money. As you can remember, it always took us ages and ages to raise money, but to everyone's surprise we had subscribed enough in one year. CMIRACLEJ So we set out for Texas to buy our land. We found a beautiful spot, not too large, about 12 or 14 hundred acres ,' and we .settled down. Then we ,decided that we didn't want to take orders from some high official so we set up our own town. We had everything then. At first there wasn't anyone else in the town but good ole '56ers, then other people wanted to move in. Now we are doing fine. We control it as we aI.ways controlled L.H..S. Everyone chipped in with his talents and here is what we are doing now. Pat Allenbach runs a day nursery and tries to keep track of Iim. But you know Texas, - too many hills and curves, and not on land either. Tom Arters has the town garage. You can get anything from duals to girls there. Charlene Benton is doing the job of breaking the horses. Her favorite song is Why am I So Black and Blue. Jack Bittner is our politician. He protects us. Also on the side he has insurance, life, fire, theft, and insurance against Bob Holcomb's ex-wives. Monty Blough is in charge of the school. He has several teachers and all he does is to bat his eyes at them. Janet Burnside teaches piano lessons in her home when she can tear herself away from the cows and horses she has to feed every night. Lois Clifford runs the telephone office and a Lonely Hearts Club. Cecile Crittenden, of course, has an Isaly's store down here, We didn't know Isaly's needed business that far down the border. Bill Daly, better known as Wild Bill, has gone hog wild since he arrived here. Between Janet and his cattle we hardly ever get to see him. Don Darrah had so much invested in Simple Simons that they gave him a share and he started a . small branch down here. I hear he's doing fine.. Matt Davis has started a Harley Davidson shop down here, but with so many horses on the trail he doesn't have a motorcycle's chance. Loretta Eglin, better known as Eggy v in school, has the only chicken farm in town. She supplies us with chickens and eggs all year round.
