Class History On a cheerful day in September of 1940, twenty-nine eager and talkative students climbed up the hill to Lodi High School to their first days in the halls of learning. Although there were twenty-nine of us, only nine of us are left: Dora Zimmerman, Donna McGar- vey, Bill Gossard, Hattie Klinect, Jim Yoxtheimer, Jr. Warner, Bob Under- wood, Sally Blackburn, and George Zimmerman. Miss DeLong was our teacher. As we flew into the second grade we took Miss DeLong with us. This year we were joined by Ear! Ivie. Mrs. Whitney greeted us in the third grade and Don Sterzer joined us. It seems as though Mrs. Whitney had an atfectionate class. One boy took a girl in the cloakroom and kissed her. What about that, Bill Gossard? Janice Ripley arrived from Chatham in the fourth grade to cause Mrs. Fuller trouble by sitting on top of the desks. Also Jim Yost and Gaylord Pickering joined our ranks. At last— we were in the fifth and were upstairs. This year it took two teachers to put us through. They were Mrs. Delcamp and Mrs. Seal (Mrs. Grimm). To help make matters worse Stanley Debro arrived to join our hap- py crowd. Our sixth year was a big one as we were preparing to enter high school. The thought of changing classes rather frightened us but to soothe us we had Miss Baker (Mrs. Merle Seal). This year Barbara Packard's smiling face was observed. Our first day in the seventh grade Mr. Sam Mosher met us at the door to usher us through many detention halls and trips to the office. New faces de- tected in the class were those of Jack Humphrey, Millard Sharp, and Mary Chapman. Mrs. Schafer guarded us every inch with her ruler. Finally we made the Freshman homeroom. This year Lafayette was saddened by the loss of four students to Lodi. They were Jeanette White, Don Sanford, Irene Farnsworth, and Joan Kindig. Mr. Quayle led us to victory in the float contest. Steadily we climbed and steadily our class increased. To help us along this year Ruth Mooney and John Schall joined us. Mr. Wegratf got us through this, our Sophomore year. It seems Mr. Wegraff liked our class or maybe he was the only one who could tame us down, anyway he went right along with us to help us through a big and memorable Junior year. He also guided us to the first prize in the float contest. The theme of our float was Indians —I guess that is what he thought we were. Maynard Sowers joined us to help sell refreshments at football and basketball games, pencils with football and basketball schedules on them and sell sweat shirts with a Lodi emblem on them. All this plus the proceeds from our class play, M lliss, directed by Mrs. Eastman, went for the big affair of the year, our Junior and Senior Banquet held at Mazena’‘s on May 09.
