In the space of those years one builds lasting friendships and has fond memories. Although We have spent only four years at school, We too shall have cherished rememhrances and very strong ties. Some day perhaps, with God Willing, after we have celebrated our own silver anniversaries, we may chance to come across this yearbook and reminisce about the four years packed with fun and learning. As We embark on our own uncertain future, may the bells ring as joyously for us as they did in the poem Bellsv by Edgar Allen Poe: Silver Bells! What a world of merriment their melody foretellslv 61,11 ji!! ii, 72. ya r 5 xx fn? We, the Class of 1959, have the honor of graduating in the 25th year of Lodi High School. As a class, we are deeply conscious of this honor. We leam in history that to understand the present we must know how past traditions came to be. Therefore, so that we may appreciate our present status, we shall relate the events of our past. In 1934, when the members of the first class of Lodi High School started their career, they were without the exceptiohal opportunities of our present freshmen. But despite the limited facilities, these freshmen were responsible for an outstanding football team, and also for the dance that was to become our annual Sophomore Hop. It was the junior class which really laid our foundation, the Student Government. The president of this organizationhad a tremendous roll to assume and succeeding presidents have had to work very diligently to follow the traditions established under his leadership. Socially, the class established itself in a regal manner by sponsoring another outstanding social event, the junior Prom, which was held in the high school gymnasium. Scholastically, they were brought to the foreground by instituting a local chapter of the National Honor Society. The seniors of '36 were conscious of the high position they had attained. They were a class of accomplishments and realized ambitions. We, the Seniors of 1959, have endeavored to follow their lead. 1 I .-Lv-Q L Hlr. Now it's time to leave, And our time has eoine, So farewell l,ocli lligh - good-hy! by Francine Gucrriero Our four years at Lodi High School have drawn to a close, but the memories we share will remain with' us forever. Can we ever forget our fears when, as little freshmen, we invaded the halls of Lodi High School for the first time? Or the confusion as we asked, How do you find the swimming pool? and Can you direct me to the elevator? For the first time we were forced to rise at the unearthly hour of 6:30 or 7:00 to arrive at school at 8:10, and for a while we slept through our first period classes. Much to our dismay we found that, although we were the smallest in the school, we didnit get front row assembly seats, but were forced to sit way up there in the balcony. Although we couldnit see very well, the freshman Class of 1955 made sure everyone knew they were there. Our first high school dance, the Freshman Social, was capably organized by our newly elected class officers - Marianne' Surowiec, Carmela Cina, Maryann Magarro, and Beverly Boggio. It was a great financial and social success, giving all the freshmen a chance to meet one another. Many of Qur lasting. friendships originated at this dance. We also became acquainted with new subjects such as algebra and assorted languages, which left usf completely confused, but we were helped by our freshmen guidance advisers, Mrs. L. Scandariato and Mr. P. Scandariato, who counseled us in both our social and scholastic problems. That June, many of us experienced exams for the first time, and resolved to do better next year, so we would not have to suffer through them again. We learned what it meant to cram for exams. Our sophomore year brought signs of maturity, yet we still showed we were youngsters as we teased the incoming freshmen who were definitely smaller than we had ever been, and tried to figure out ways of not doing homework. A We learned in Latin the derivation of the word sophomore: sophos meaning wise, and moros, foolish. The teachers said moros was dominant. Finally we got the seats' downstairs, but they weren't much of an improvement, since we were seated behind those much taller juniors and seniors, way in the last rows. It was during the 1956 were introduced to Hamus was to become the and Julius Caesar, who as e piled us with boxes and boxes of Christmas cards.
