X1 L- 11 foreword As we think back over the last four years, we remember a great deal about our school life. We all shall be happy to graduate this spring, but we shall also reflect sadly upon leaving four wonderful years, as they are about to close their gates behind us, But not forever: some dark and lonely evening we may be aroused by the sound of a strange, but familiar melody. This flow of music from a thousand strings will ring in our ears, louder and louder, haunting us, stirring something up wildly within us: and then we shall no longer be able to resist it, Suddenly we will be holding the yearbook solemnly, as an old, cherished thing, and we will open it to turn back the pages of time to find some dear memory, lt is not just a book, it is a part of us, a part of our lives. We will review and live once again, for a while, in these aging pages many won- derful moments spent here at Lodi. ln this magic mirror we shall see four years of work, four years of fun, four years of wonderful companion- ship-all included in that golden period of our life-those years at Lodi High School. And as we leave this school, let us take our memories with us in this volume of Magic Casements, for: No matter how far we may go Beyond time, mountain, or sea, No barrier will be strong enough To hold back the train of mem'ry. l ll pg-.L X T5 5-I clication As an expressuon of smcerest gratntude for your devoted time and servlce toward both the nmprove ment of Lodn l-lngh School and our class we e Class of V953 dedncate thus our yearbook to ou Mr Louis A March and Muss Jennie Alessi A 'A Wa. vw A 'il aw v.,.1',, I u mm. 1w,42a'+4, 1. xg W5 XIQ 1 rn ,J 'af 'fm gh: ,ri :Sl w 'ef 64-43-' ,I mason' igvtrwg Q, .lf 2' g,i. f' wx'-1' Xgaenz-M ann!! , . FRANK GACIOFANO Principal .. ,'w,wf.v1v'f' Principal 's Message The administration and members of our staff, during your stay with us, have delved into their knowledge and experiences in order to help prepare you for your future goals. They have attempted to train you mentally and physically for the great task that lies before you. Looking upon a world that has been torn by wars and strife since l94l, America has invested more and more in its youth, hoping some day that through their educational experiences they may find some of the answers to our problems, But the pessimists among us see only wars and more wars to come. Good will toward the good life seems unattainably idealistic-a platitude rather than a real hope. Yet we in the schools of America must never lose our faith in mankind. Every youth is a potential messiah. They are the raw materials from which we hope to build a new heaven and a new earth in which peace will dwell, and good will toward all men will reign again. Let us make this our life's objective! CLASS HISTORY Leaving behind, but not forgetting their Freshman year, our Sophomores embarked on the second milestone of their high school career, under the direction of Miss Groeller. This year was packed full of fun, excitement and - the inevitable work. Mixed with Book Reports and Plane Geometry were the plans for the Sophomore Hop, and the loud pep-assemblies. Gone was the uncertainty and the confusion of their Freshman days: instead remained, the wonderful feeling of belonging to Lodi High, of being an impor- tant spoke in the wheel of our school. They sang our Alma Mater with pride and now they are looking to their future here at Lodi, with enthusiasm and hope. 46 'Y' fi' Front Row olores Psano Secretary Berne Miller President Miss Groeller, Adviser: Joyce Ann Kral, Vice Presidentg Joan McCorm ck Treasurer Second Row Doris Barnitt Barbara Yura Deborah Sampson, Judy Ragland, Inez Vilardo. Sachs, carried on many activities this year. Freshman members took their places on the Student Council, thus making their group an essential part of Lodi High. The Freshman Social, which was held on October l7th, was probably the most suc- cessful in the history of our school. lt broke off the last fragment of the shell of shyness and proved that co-operation is in abundance in this class. In the future, the members of this year's ninth grade can look back with pride and be happy to say, We were the l953 Freshmen of Lodi. As we turn the pages, the years will slowly slip by and we will once again be back in Lodi High School, l953. Sweet memories will invade our thoughts and we will start wondering about the whereabouts of the familiar faces that pass before our eyes. The good times that had been ours during our high school years will be relived as we sit back and watch the hands of time turn back for just a little while. If this happens now and then, this year's staff of Magic Casements will then have realized the purpose of this yearbook, for, while our four eventful years at Lodi High may have been completed, Magic Casements will have enabled the memory to linger on forever.
