'ld-we There should be a common responsibility for all Americans to become useful helpful members in a way of life that blends and harmonizes with the competitive demands of a family and society There are many yarclsticks offered in the measurement of Suc cess but the significant one is the amount of happiness achieved in one s lifetime ln the process of living a full and wholesome life one may en counter many obstacles that appear insurmountable These barriers must not be regarded as permanent pitfalls or as Herculean tasks but as another assignment as another challenge that you must be prepared to face and conquer You have my perpetual confidence in your ability to cope with the future because your high school training has received its foun- dation from our democracy which embodies the concepts of life liberty our right to happiness without infringing upon the rights of others and a cherished respect for your fellowman. You are well fortified to face life and its problems and to make adjustments required by it. To facilitate these adjustments l leave you with one thought and that is never to despair-never despair and you will achieve that objective of contentment and happiness which is the parent of success. Remember that the light that shines tomorrow is a mere reflection of the torch you carry today.
