Wm, demwzafe Del?ww Q- ia AS an expression of deep appreciation for your kindness as our friend, your guidance as' our adviser, your confidence as our companion, and your untiring efforts on our behalf, we the Class of I949, are proud and happy to dedicate this, our yearbook, to you, Mrs. Del Greco. 'ld-we There should be a common responsibility for all Americans to become useful helpful members in a way of life that blends and harmonizes with the competitive demands of a family and society There are many yarclsticks offered in the measurement of Suc cess but the significant one is the amount of happiness achieved in one s lifetime ln the process of living a full and wholesome life one may en counter many obstacles that appear insurmountable These barriers must not be regarded as permanent pitfalls or as Herculean tasks but as another assignment as another challenge that you must be prepared to face and conquer You have my perpetual confidence in your ability to cope with the future because your high school training has received its foun- dation from our democracy which embodies the concepts of life liberty our right to happiness without infringing upon the rights of others and a cherished respect for your fellowman. You are well fortified to face life and its problems and to make adjustments required by it. To facilitate these adjustments l leave you with one thought and that is never to despair-never despair and you will achieve that objective of contentment and happiness which is the parent of success. Remember that the light that shines tomorrow is a mere reflection of the torch you carry today. To the Class of l949 I extend my best wishes for your future success and happiness. agkj I I I Q QT H an 'U WAV ,- I 'M 'V 9 its A11 W MR, LOUIS DeSIMONE President MR. FRANK RU BERTO MR. Two days later, we were still buying tickets for the swimming pool and for front row assembly seats. Gentilello, Papio, Hammer, and Piela were elected as our leaders in the school election. Our first affair-The Freshmen Social was a huge success . . . the paper records which decorated the gym made suitable souvenirs. Snafu , presented by the Dramatic Club in December, in- troduced us to the theatrical ability of the upper classmen. June saw us struggling through exams . . . the first for most of us . . . and then the year was over, we were Sophomores. REEL TWO Our Hearts Were Young and Gay SOPHOMORES Wonderful feeling being Sophomores-we now enjoy assem- bly seats downstairs. Millar, Papio, Maio, Piela elected as our officers this year. Congratulations. Bares, Randazzo, and La Porte who made a good impression in football drill, played Varsity Ball this year. Nice going, fellas. Under the supervision of Miss J. Lo Castro, the Literature Club was formed with the purpose of publishing student poems and stories. The Girls' Intramural team defeated the Senior girls 24-20 for the championship and were awarded silver basketballs. Main event of the year was the Cartoon Carnival which was the theme of our l-lop. Don La Trent's orchestra provided the dreamy music. Our Basketball team after a great season was defeated by Hackensack in the semi-finals, 38-39. Tough break, fellas. Good News. B students are exempt from exams. REEL THREE Our Hearts Were Growing Up JUNIORS We're getting close to the senior seats in assembly . . . next year maybe??? La Porte won the honor of being chosen captain of our Foot- ball Squad.-Congratulations. At the close of the magazine campaign, we Juniors led the school in sales. When wedding bells called to Miss Narotsky, she was given b her classes. a farewell party y WW The National Honor Society brought pride to us by inducting ten of our classmates: Vivian Breier, Frank Faustini, Henry Allen, Dorothy Banas, June Hartley, Helen Sarisky, Grace Dolak, Donald Murphy, Beatrice Ginley, and Evelyn Giba-happy day for their parents too as was seen by their faces while attending the t after the ceremony. Candyland was the theme of our Social . . . the success of which was indicated by the crowded gym. The decorations looked good enough to eat. What every Junior dreams of-The Prom-flowers were everywhere-Joe Cunningham and Mary Papio reigned as K and Queen of Blossom Time . 83 ing REEL FOUR Journey's End SENIORS Our hearts were heavy as we bid farewell to Mr. Maggese, a pal to all of us. For the first time the Ball was held outside the school-The Casa Mana in Teaneck, a White Christmas setting was the scene of much gaiety, December l7th, Edward Kiel and Emilia Prata made an impressive King and Queen. Vivian Breier and Margaret Stefano were congratulated upon being named co-editors of Magic Casements. Our annual play, The Haunted High proved to be a good choice as the auditorium was filled to capacity. The fun at re- hearsals won't be forgotten too soon by both the players and Mr. Tamburelli. Excitement was the master as we left for Washington, D. C. -the first glimpse at our nation's capital. What a wonderful four days, May 2 thru Sth. Our class enjoyed to the utmost the annual outing, swimming and the amusement park ably provided the entertainment. We welcomed new additions to our faculty, Mrs. Lolio, Miss Kelso, and Miss Lusciandrello and saw Mrs. Zarella, Mrs. Salva, and Miss M. Lo Castro leave. We bid farewell to the school at our Senior Assembly with a prison theme. Many of us suppressed tears as we marched from the auditorium amid strains of our Alma Mater. A great hustle and bustle, the yearbooks have arrived- classes interrupted continuously as we scurry about getting auto- graphs. f Exams finally over lnow we prayl, practice begins, hours 0 it. June-our years of high school have ended. With tears in our eyes we reluctantly accepted our diplomas and realized we were umni of Lodi High. Ai iw si 3 Ha V ,KMIV rig Y 1, .,: 1 xl!
