Yes, weekends in a BOARD' ING ACADEMY can be lonely, but they can also be won! derful--the best hours of the whole week, Parents often surprise their children with a little visit on Sabbath or for the full weekend. Loved ones are always welcome to sliare the blessing at the academy. To give a more complete picture of this time of every week, tne staff introduces to the readers Nancy Brackett, typical junior GIRL, and Allen Iamison, a representative senior BOY, to tell the story of campus life as dormitory students live it and love it. They re-live for you in picture any WEEKEND at Lodi Academy ffnothing exciting, actually, but a time full of memories made precious because of the fellowship of so many other Seventh-day Adventist youth. Together they enjoy the sacredness, companionship, fun, and frolic of dormitory life as unitedly they prepare their hearts and lives for a future on earth and throughout eternity. The ringing of the last class bell at one o'clock on Friday does not mean that activity ceases, After dinner, PREPARA- TlON for the Sabbath swings into full action as students sweep floors, shake rugs, and give their dressers a last minute touchfup, Often there is time after supper for a Weekly letter homefor better yet, a phone call. VESPERS is a very special hour during the week, The chapel is filled with a spirit of reverence as the students sit and look into the face of Christ on the wall and as they listen to organ, instrumental, and vocal music, followed by a short devotional talk. SABBATH SCHOOL is conducted in the chapel with students carrying all of the responsibilities. The walk to church is usually exhilarating, but if the Weather is rainy, the stu- dents are transported by bus. During the eleven o'clock hour they are inspired by the messages of Eld. B. W, Mat- tison, pastor, or a visiting speaker. Students often participate in the CHURCH service by giving special music or having the Lodians take the place of the regular church choir, Then it's back to the cafeteria for a luscious home-cooked meal. The DAY progresses as one continues to read counter-clockwise, begin- ning at bottom leit of the page. Allen: Save me a seat up there, Iohn and Harold. I'm right behind you. Nancy: We need cr good offering, fellows, to reach our Sabbath School goal. Allen: Not bad, Iamison. That tie looks good even it I do say so myself. Deloy: I.et's be first to church today, Allen, and surprise Dean. Nancy: It's so nice of you to give us a ride to church, Elder Crowder, because it's a little chilly for walking. How simple it all looked that first balmy evening in Sep- tember. when Clarence and his ASSOCIATES went to Roths' house to perfect a schedule for Mr. Rummel's picture-shooting day on the campus. Allen both looked and sounded quite the executive type as he phoned one number for information: another. for an appointment: and a third for some names he needed. Throughout the year these three have stood united in their determination to make the '55 Lodian Light surpass all previous ones in quality. For three years the yearbook has earned a national FIRST PLACE Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, with a notation that the Lodian Light of '54 was almost a Medalist.
