Beta Club Preaidenfe J H A Camper Newton Stone Joined the Service A I CLASS HISTORY In 1939 there was a large group of a little children gathered at Lodge School to begin its career in school. We were all wondering what school was like. It waenH long before we began learning how to read and write and enjoyed going to school very much. We began struggling through the grammar grades. Sortie of our classmates moved away, and some even quit school. but new ones joined us to take their places. Finally, we finished the seventh grade. We were now beginning high aohool and Ur. Clayton was our teaoher. We were a little afraid of him, but we soon learned that he was a part of us. especially in Arithmetic class, and there was nothing to be afraid of anymore We knew no one oould take his place. Uiss Mary Fewer and Mr. C. M. Padgett were our teachers, too, and we owe a great deal to them as well We began the ninth grade with three members lees. Miss Power left and Mi66 Louise Pontius taught us English. Mies Martha Sauls was our homeroom and Home Economics teaoher. We struggled through Algebra and our other courses and from there we moved on to the sophomore class Mrs. Lavenia Stahl vas our English and home room theaoher during our tenth year of school. We were glad to welcome Henri Bishop and Haney Morn- ingstar to our class from Ehrhardt. It was our time to plan the Junior- Senior Banquet. Working industriously and happily we finally succeeded in making it a successful one. Shortly after the banquet was over, we realised we would soon be Juniors. We left the sophomore class sadly knowing we no longer had Mr. Padgett for a Superintendent. When we Juniors arrived at school in the fall of 1949, we found Mr. Clay- ton our Superintendent, and we knew he could fill Mr. Padgett’s place well. Miss Marie Henery was our home room teacher and our English teaoher was Mrs. W. R. Corder. We had some new priviledges this year. The teachers helped us to organise a Beta Club and Mrs. J. E. Bithcp, our music teaoher, directed the Glee Club. Our interest was very muoh aroused by these clubs. Miss Sauls helped us to give aJunior Play in order to raise money to go to Washington the following year. Four of our classmates chose married life Instead of school and left us for a different life. These students are as followers: Mary Louise Brabham, Faye Murdaugh, Laverne Fralix, and Alice Car- ter. Vivian Crosby quit school to go to work and Betty Ann Pennington and Mary Ann Goodwin graduated and are now attending college. Clyde Klnard and Newton Stone joined the Armed Services, Pew, but strong, fourteen of us Joined each other this fall to oomplete our high school education, Charles Wilson left us shortly after school started to go to work. This left thirteen of us. We worked hard to get our yearbook and struggled the whole year trying to raise enough money to go to Washington. We enjoyed working together and wish we had all our old olass- aates back with us. Where are only several of us who received our grammar and high school education at Lodge. These are the followering studentsi Blanchard Carter, Graham Cuusnings, Cecily McMillan, Jeannie Elisabeth Martin, Ewell Parnell, Furman Peters, and Miriam Polk, The other seniors are Nancy Morningstar, Joyce Lyons, Henri Bishop, James Barnes, Carlisle Avnnt and Marshall Smith. So runs the history of this class of 1960-1951. We are happy to have ad- vanced thus far. s Juniors Carolyn Belcher France?
