With this going against us, we were still able to compete in our Southeastern Conference as a competitive team. After ranking in the top third last year, we had high hopes for this year. Our goals that we accomplished this past year were: beating Forsyth 36-24 in our dual after forfeiting 18 points; placing more in tournaments this year; having better individual season records; scoring points in every tournament; and having more community interest in this sport. Overall the major disappointment was the cancellation of our home tournament, and not being rescheduled. I personally feel that the wrestling program will survive with the dedication of each athlete and parent through the 0 coming years. This being my last year, I would like to thank the following people for their participation in wrestling this past year: Seniors David Stevens, Kenyon Egbert, George Not Afraid, Lansing Bird In Ground; Juniors Robby Over-turf, Nate Wald, Cliff Bird In Ground; Sophomores Lee Murdock and Mahlon Egbert; Freshmen Josh Springfield and Matt Wald. And a special thanks to Lita Schenderline, Marla Jeffers and Sherrie Pilkington for their understanding and cooperation throughout the year. Best wishes in the Future!! With the hard work, dedication and team effort displayed by each individual the Indians were the 1982 Class B State Champions, the Southeastern Class B Conference Champions, and to make it more impressive, the team went undefeated in 24 games. On behalf of the team and the coaching staff we would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, our loyal fans, the teachers, administration, parents and all the people who supported the Lodge Grass Indians. Without them, this feat could not have been accomplished. One of the most pleasant experiences in life is looking back at a job well done. Our “mighty Indians” can look back at the 1981-82 season with a great deal of satisfaction. The task has been well done. -Gordon Real Bird- Senior Stars Of ’82 Ron Little Light: Forward Ben Gros Ventre: First team All-Conference; guard m Clayton Good Luck: Montana All Stars Selection; First team All-Conference Center Ivan Don’t Mix: Montana All Stars Honorable Mention; Second team All-Conference; Forward 4 h James Blaine: forward Robert Hugs: All-Conference Honorable Mention; guard, forward Harold Jess Brien: Manager 55 DIVISION l« PLACE CLASS B 1981-82 Undefeated Divisional Champions Scoreboard Indians 67 Labre Braves 58 Indians 71 Roundup Panthers 59 Indians 56 Columbus Cougars 47 56 Indians Take State 24-0 Coach of the Year Gordon Real Bird Scoreboard Indians 86 Malta Mustangs 61 Indians Big Timber 58 Sheepherders 44 Indians 58 Circle Wildcats 55 57 Junior Varsity Goes 16-2 Standing left to right: Assistant Coach Pat Shannon, Mike Bear Claw, Clifton Falls Down, Tom Yarlott, Sonny Black Eagle, Brad Black Eagle, Gordon Morning, Coach Dan Mathews. Coach’s Message The 1981-82 C Squad basketball team compiled a 13-1 overall and 13-0 conference marks. Our only loss was to Hardin 49-46 in December. The squad was short in numbers and height, but not talent. Raymond Jefferson and Oliver Spotted Horse were Co-Captains and team leaders. The squad was hard working and very pleasant to coach.
