My basketball shoes to Ellis Murdock, and my boots to whoever wants them. I, Oliver Elias Hugs III, first of all I'm not going to extremes by willing my car or stereo to anyone because you know I w'on't give it up when they come after the equipment, and I can't will my locker to anyone because how are you so sure that person is going to use that locker? So what I'm saying is that a class will serve no logical purpose? So where does that leave me? I'm just not going to make out a will this year! ... Mike's 13-10 record included 4th place finishes at the Forsyth and Billings Tournaments and 3rd at Huntley Project. Other team members were Baldamar Arguello, Tom Manolis and Bill Webster. The small turnout and adverse training conditions contributed highly to the Grapplers mediocre 23 wins and 40 losses at seven tournaments in Broadus, Forsyth, Billings and Huntley Project. The quality of instruction may unsurpassed in history of our school with direction coming from four coaches. The 1979-80 team should be improved with a much better turnout, excellent facilities and the nucleus of this years squad. Coach Kurt A. Nelson 27 TRACK 79 Track was rewarding this year. The athletes who stayed out the entire season showed they had the dedication necessary to compete in a very individualized sport. Team members Tom, Ed, Lita, Abby, and Barb all showed great potential and courage in staying out while competing against more experienced athletes. Lita, Barb, and Abby all set school records in their various events. Barb also qualified for the State Track Meet. Dale and Lane were the two top point getters for the team and both also qualified for the State Meet. Lane set a new school record in the 220 yard dash. CJ Not Afraid, our only senior, helped keep the team loose in tense moments and also ran well enough to qualify for the state meet. Our manager, Teresa, and Juanita Sloss, assistant coach, were very helpful and worked hard in making 1979 a successful track season. Coach Jeff France HOMECOMING PARADE Mr. Singley and the school band provided music in the Homecoming Parade. Each class built a float and decorated it. Bruce Pretty On Top was elected King and Cathi Lyda was Queen. The Senior royalty were Randy Roth and Debbie Hill. Ed Not Afraid and Claudia Dawes represented the Freshman class. The Junior royalty were Shelly Herman and Mike Webster. 32 HONORS ROYALTY 33 HANDGAME TOURNAMENT Pictures: Clockwise from top left... Freshman challenge the Junior High... Members of the school band provided music for the Commencement program. Wanda Hammett gave the Salutatorium welcome. Merla Mullenberg was chosen Valedictorian. Father Michel Antoine presented the Baccalaurate Address and Mr. James Hoffman was the speaker. A reception followed the Commencement. 42 BAND 1978-79 was a very active year for the band. They were rated a ' 'one'1, which is a superior, at the music festival held at Billings Senior High. They played at the Pep Rallies, Football and Basketball games. The band followed the basketball teams to the boys and girls divisional and a challenge game. They held a Christmas and Spring Concert, and played at the Senior Graduation. CHORUS Chorus consisted of two major groups, High School and Junior High. They had a slightly active year. They had Christmas and Spring Concerts, and a going away party for Joenne Pease, the only Senior in chorus. CHEERLEADERS BOOST SPIRIT Young and old rooted for the Lodge Gras Warriors in 1978-79. The fans were led by an outstanding group of cheerleaders. Kim Bear Below, Jami Wald, and Kelly Miller cheered for Wrestling. Dutch Lewis, Rachel Chatham, Laurie Alden, and Felicia Old Crow cheered for Boys Varsity Basketball. Not pictured as a group are the cheerleaders for Football and Girl's Basketball: Felicia Old Crow, Dutch Lewis, Marianne Garcia, and Rachel Chatham. To spend the $240.00 they made, they went to their district convention, state convention and bought F.H.A. pins for their members. They also had a Christmas party. 54 Standing L. to R.: Trivian Horn, Teresa Mullenburg, Lydia Jefferson, Joenne Pease, Amy Old Elk, Lynn Laforge, Middle Row: Carla Whiteman, Valerie Brien, Abigail Medicine Horse, Bottom Row: Lita Schenderline, Anita He Does It, Twila Old Elk. 55 RODEO CLUB Group Photo Front row left to right; Anita He Does It, Susan Stevens, Charles Fahlgren, Herschell Hill, Laurie Alden, Felicia Old Crow, Dutch Lewis, Orvilene Rondeaux, Advisor Leonard Bends. The Indian Club is the largest extra-curricular group in the school this 1978-1979 year. The students who participated in the organization really pulled off a terrific year. They put on a school Hand-Game Tournament, held a banquet, and a few bake sales; they also sponsored a pot luck dinner for the Indian Club members, Boys Varsity Basketball players and their parents. They also went on a few trips. One trip was to Denver Col.; another was to Billings for an Indian Education Program. I'd like to congratulate the club members on their enthusiasm and wish them good luck next year. 57 Indian Club Pres. Joenne Pease Publications class worked on both the Newspaper and the Annual.
