Mr. Lenhard DEDICATION We respectfully dedicate our 1959 Golden Eagle to the communities of Lodge Grass and Wyola. Here we have grown up; here we have been given encouragement. And here education and help have been gained. We deeply appreciate all that these communities have offered us in an opportunity to work toward a successful future. Though we are leaving and will each go our separate ways, a part of us will always remain. We will not forget the things that we have experienced. In appreciation we offer our all-- --The Youth That Is America. ISTRATION % ■ FACULTY SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE The primary obligation of the teaching profession is to guide youth, and adults in the pursuit of knowledge and help them to become happy, useful, self-supporting citizens. The ultimate strength of the nation lies in the social responsibilities, economic competence and moral strength of the individual American. The teaching staff of this school believes in this code and makes the utmost attempt to fulfill this idea. However, the student and parent must realize that we are here to guide not to force or drive. 4 The main job of a Clerk is to solve the numerous financial difficulties of a school, and to act as Secretary of the School Board. Pictured above is Ralph Knight who has been Clerk at Lodge Grass for nine years. The School Board meets with Mr. Molsberry, our Superintendent, to work out the problems of our school. These problems are given a great deal of thought and discussion so our school can run smoothly. Pictured at left are Uhl Bond, Ma-lena Jackson, Mr. Molsberry, Jack Owens, and Ralph Knight. Just as the Student Council solves the problems of our school, the City Council makes laws and solves the problems of the city. Pictured from L. to R. STANDING, Bob Ball, Jim Brown, Ronnie Gibson, Gary Gordon, Terry Faught, Alberta Cowles, Phyllis Murdock, Patsy Hults. The student council is made up of the class presidents, and organization presidents, and representatives from each class and organization in high school. Problems and questions pertaining to the school as a whole are brought to the attention of the group for thought, discussion, and action. The student council decides upon the time and prices for school dances, and is always in charge of the Homecoming Parade. The president is elected, traditionally, from the Senior Class. The Vice President is always from the Junior Class, while the rest of the officers are elected from the group. “We Are Here to Add What We Can to Life, Not to Get What We Can from Life.” 8 SENIOR 10 CLASS MOTTO “Don’t Itch for Success, Scratch for It’’ SPONSORS President--Ken Wheeler Vice President—Gary Not Afraid Secretary-Treas. --Scott Jeffers St. Council--Ronnie Gibson CLASS COLORS Red and White CLASS FLOWER Reporter--Karen Bond CLASS HISTORY Red Rose The class of 1959 has quite an unforgettable past. As Freshmen we were initiated on September 23 as newcomers to Lodge Grass High. This was our anticipation and seemingly the biggest event of the year. Our Homecoming King and Queen Candidates were Karen Bond and Scott Jeffers. We had a nice float that took honorable mention. Our Carnival Queen Candidate was Bertha Medicine Crow. During our Sophomore year we won first place on the Homecoming float. Our King and Queen Candidates were Sidney Eastman and Lou Ella Whiteman. That year Sidney also had the honor of being chosen Mr. Leap Year. Billye Pilkington was our Carnival Queen Candidate. Gary Not Afraid was picked Best All-Around Boy at Lodge Grass. As Juniors we faced the busiest of all our school years. We took second on our Homecoming float and gave the Homecoming Dance. In March we presented the annual Junior Play, our choice was Call Me Darling. Our prom and banquet were the biggest projects of the year. They were both a lot of hard work. It took a lot of time and planning for both to be a success. Scott Jeffers and Roberta Cowles were our Best All-Around Boy and Girl Candidates. Boy and Girl State Delegates were Scott Jeffers, Ronnie Gibson, Catherine Shaw, and Sharon Micheal. Alternates were Ken Wheeler, Gary Not Afraid, Rosella Red Wolf and Roberta Cowles. This year, as Seniors, we got first place on our Homecoming float. Ken Wheeler and Annita Stevens were the king and queen candidates. Scott Jeffers got Best All-Around Boy. This year, instead of having the work, we will be honored at the Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. Our biggest job this year is the annual. 11 EDWINA MARIE BEAUMONT Thy gentle mind by gentle deed be known. Twirling 1,2; Pep Club 1,2; Glee Club 1; G.A.A. 1. The class that solicited the largest amount of money for their candidate won the crown. This year the Seniors won this honor. The largest money making projects were bingo, fortune telling, roulette, fish pond, and the sponge throw. Not only the music students but the whole school joined in and helped make this a gala occasion. THE CLASS OF ’59 MEETS IN ’69 We are now meeting at the mountain ranch of Eddie Hope here at Lodge Grass. Entertainment is to be provided by the well-known opera star, LouElla Whiteman. She is famous as the first opera singer to introduce rock and roll to Carnegie Hall. Karen and Roberta told me they had just flown in on Roberta's Honolulu-Lodge Grass flight. They look all prepared to give us a demonstration of the hula. I wonder if Karen’s husband has seen this! Oh, and here is Ann’s plane just coming in. She and her husband are living in Arizona where Ann has been illustrating for several horse magazines. 1 see Sharon has arrived from her husband's rancho” in South America where she is writing her second novel. She has taken up the relaxing pastime of bullfighting--she always liked to live dangerously. Here comes Ken now, just in from Walter Reed Hospital in Denver. He has just been approved by the board of directors as their head specialist on foot bunions. Cathy is our other medical student, made good. She tells me she hopes to be appointed head nurse at Mayo’s soon. Who is that on the big black horse? It must be Gary Joe, now T.V.'s Wyatt Earp. I do hope he will give us a demonstration of the draw that downed Hugh O’Brien on Dodge City's main street last year. Harold should be here soon. He took over Gary's ranch, and is raising long-haired goats for sheepskin coats. Arthur got a few days off from his job as foreman at a dude ranch where he has made quite a hit with all the gals. Here are Rosella and Edwina. They tell me that they both love California's climate. Rosella is a secretary at the 20th Century Fox Studio, and Edwina is ticket agent at Disneyland. California seems to be very popular with L.G.H.S. alumnae, for Scott and Ron both teach there. They like the year-around roping season. 1 think 1 see a '69 Chevy station wagon parking now. It’s likely Carole and Gary. They are now living on Owl Creek, and Gary was recently appointed as head of the R.C.A. Irene is another California fan. She is a receptionist at the Navy Hospital in Oakland. Aurelia has a very interesting job at the Shell Oil Company near there, but says she doesn't like the smell. Ralph has just arrived from Alaska. He is now retired, having made all his money by trapping. Mark is our other Alaskan. He went to college, but in his time with Uncle Sam, and now lives in Juneau. That army jeep just driving in must be Colonel Larry Wilson. He is making a career of the army. Oh, guess who is now the L.G.H.S. coach? Sidney sent word that he would be right up after football practice, so he must be quite busy. Annita has just arrived also. Most of you local readers know her husband, the head of the X-Z Association. Joan, who has been her guest, has one of the most unusual jobs of all. She is a photographer for Life, and is just back from filming the kite-flying contests in Japan. Frank is here from Texas, where he contested at many rodeos. He said he was glad to be back at his job at the Little Horn Cattle Company. Here's Rodney now, in his pink Jaguar. He’s the famous gambler that made a fast grand at Monte Carlo with an unknown system and retired, if you remember. I guess that takes care of all our guests. No, I didn't miss Billye. That’s me, the owner of the Powder Puff Beauty Shop right here in Lodge Grass!! 74 BUS DRIVERS Wayne Criswell Robert Manley Robert Wiley THE BUS DRIVERS PILOT US TO SCHOOL COOKS Richard Blakely Clara Knight Grace Pilkington THEY ARE GOOD COOKS JANITORS THE JANITORS WORK IS NEVER DONE VALEDICTORIAN Ronald B.
