We began our task with head papoose Del RitaWeibert as president. Her helpers were Donald Fenton as vice-president; Elwood Schenderline as secretary-treasurer; LuElla Faught as student council representative. Our first big hunt was initiation day when we were all scouted up to the L. We, through influence, persuaded our elder braves, the Sophomores, to do most of our work while white-washing the L. Then we had a big pow-wow and many laughs at kangaroo court. Our float won first prize at Homecoming. Our next big pow-wow was the Freshman picnic when we scouted the Story, Wyoming fish hatchery. The big chief was Alina Stevenson. Our second year of training began with thirty-six braves in the group. The top braves were: Myron Pease as president; Bonnie Wham as vice-president; Margaret Farman as secretary-treasurer; LuElla Faught as student council representative. We had become braves by now and we had the pleasure of initiating the papooses (Freshmen) who were just starting high school. Our float took second in the big race at Homecoming. Our head chief was Bob Nees. The third season of our training began with thirty-five braves to continue the course. This season's leading braves were Bonnie Wham as president; Bill Jappe as vice-president; Elwood Schenderline as secretary-treasurer; Myron Pease as student council representative. The big chiefs were Mr. Thomas and Mr. Wescott. We were very proud to present our play, The Boardinghouse Reach and the Junior-Senior prom with the theme Tulip Time in Holland. Our fourth and final season began with thirty-four braves to make the last mile. The leading braves of the season were Bob Redman as president; Arlen Whiteman as vice-president; Rodger L. Ball as secretary; Bill Jappe as treasurer and Myron Pease as student council representative. We were proud to have the responsibility of putting out the annual. Mrs. Ryan and Mr. Hoffman were our advisers and our officers were LuElla Faught as editor; Bob Redman as assistant editor and Margaret Farman as business manager. Our play of Grandad Steps Out was a big success and we again thank Mrs. Ryan and Mr. Hoffman for directing us. 5 RODGER I. Candidates were chosen on popularity and sociability in high school. LuEUa Mae Faught and Arlen Whiteman, both seniors, were chosen best all-around girl and best all-around boy. LuElla Faught has been very active in high school. She has been a member of the annual staff, has participated in dramatics, glee club, pep club, mixed chorus, band, representative to the student council, and has been an active cheerleader for two years. Arlen Whiteman is noted for his dry humor and his athletic ability. He has been a letter-man in baseball, track, football, basketball, and a participant in the Lodge Grass High School rodeo. He has also been active on the annual staff, journalism staff, dramatics, and student council. LuElla Faught BOYS’ STATE DELEGATE STATE DELEGATE Deanna Cooley Each year the faculty meets to choose one girl from the junior class to represent Lodge Grass High School at Montana Girls State held annually on the campus of Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. The girl chosen is judged on her character, scholarship, leadership ability, and her ability and willingness to adapt herself to the requirements of Girls State. The purpose of Girls' State is to educate girls in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. It is a plan for training in the practical mechanics of government. Through actual participation as citizens of a mythical state, patterned in the likeness of Montana, the girls are trained to assume the duties and responsibilities of voting citizens. Girls State is a laboratory of practical, applied political science. This year's Girls State Delegate is Deanna Cooley, with Patsy Fitzgerald as alternate. Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Hale Jeffers Each year a boy is picked from the junior class to represent Lodge Grass at Boys' State. He is chosen by the faculty according to character, leadership, ability, and scholarship. A delegate is chosen and also an alternate, so if the delegate is unable to attend the alternate may go. Last year’s Boys State washeldat Western Montana College at Dillon. Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion. This year’s Boys' State Delegate is Hale Jeffers and the alternate is Billy Greenough. This page is sponsored by PRODUCERS LIVESTOCK MARKETING ASS’N. One girl was chosen from each class as a Carnival Queen candidate. Tickets were sold for a dime each. Joyce Landon had the most tickets the night of the carnival and was crowned queen at 11 o'clock. The carnival was for the purpose of raising money for new band uniforms. There were quite a few concessions for as small a space as we had. The bingo and the sponge throw were outstanding among all. The teachers were very co-operative by being targets for the sponge throw. Boy! Did the kids ever go for this. With the co-operation of the students, the teachers, and the public the carnival was a great success. Compliments of SALT CREEK FREIGHTWAYS Billings Montana 41 PROPHECY The graduating class of 1955 received an invitation from the soon-to-be graduating class of 1965 to celebrate their 10th anniversary from Lodge Grass High School. The reunion was to be held at the Sarah Hotel and Nightclub on May 25. 1965 at 6:30 p. m. Much to our surprise we found Bill Jappe owner and operator of this famous hotel, with Dona Endicott as bar maid, Steve Walker, Bob Redman, Dale Hopper and Oscar Hager employed as bell hops. Elwood Schenderline is bouncer in Bill's fancy nightclub. Employed for the entertainment is Luanne Metcalfe and Dan Watt as Apache dancers. At the municipal airport in Lodge Grass we find a trans-oceanic airliner piloted by Dorothy Paulsen, co-pilot Bonnie Wham with Barbara Chatham as stewardess. Arriving on the plane were professors Charles Murdock and Arnold Lix. Accompanied by Lix was his wife, Edna Lix (Edna George), as professor of foreign languages. Rev. Myron Pease is going to be our guest speaker, providing we all attend his church the next day. Norita Weigand (Clanin) and Shirley Roth (Harmon) are happily settled with their husbands and families. Lu Ella Faught and Sandra Jappe are still each other's pet peeve. In the past years they have been so close they are inseparable and have been the only two girls in our class to live down a popular song ■Sisters.” Some of the people may have forgotten the song Sisters. It goes like this: Heaven help the man who gets between me and my sister. And Heaven help the Sister that gets between me and my man. And it's this phrase that they couldn't agree upon. As we all may have suspected Burton Chandler bought out the Wham ranch and is still waiting for Bonnie to come down out of the air. His employees or cowboys are Arlen Whiteman, Charles Wilson, Owen Old Crow, and Marvin Stewart. The cooks on his ranch are Mary Fowler, Margaret Farman, Fran Bird, and Lorraine Pilkington. Ann Watt, Evelyn Hogan, and Lucy Yellowmule are employed as dishwashers. Last, but not least, is Rodger Ball and Phil Rasmussen, who have become very good buddies because they are still looking for the same thing. Rodger's standard is a little higher than Phil's; Rodger wants a girl. WILL Lu Ella F.-wills her ability to hide her weight to Agnes L.
