Lodge Grass High School looks forward to continued achievement in educating the youth of the Little Big Horn Country. The hill has heard the challenge. The rooms of the high school have been brightened with soothing pastel shades. The shadows of the desks have been decreased by the installation of fluorescent lights. New shelves and magazine racks have been placed in the library to accommodate the new library books and larger number of periodicals. The athletic department has been expanded to enable greater participation in physical education by the students and better visibility and comfort for the spectators as they watch our young and promising athletes perform. The music department has enjoyed its most successful year. The Ag. building trembles with reports that its basement is to be renovated soon for an enlarged program in industrial arts. More significant than any physical improvements on the hill is the spirit of the student body as they cooperate in the school activities. I congratulate the members of the class of 1952, whose graduation brings in sight the new experiences in life. MR. CARL ORR Industrial Arts MISS ETHEL SIMMONS Commercial MR. ROBERT NEES P. After a grueling initiation they were officially admitted and allowed to participate in the activities of the high school. The results of the class election found Kim Forman as President, Charlie Fellows as Vice President, Helen Standish as Secretary-Treasurer, and Shirley Green and Jack Ball as Student Council Representatives. Coach Likarich was class sponsor. During the year a Valentine Party was held in the grade school gym with the whole high school attending. The class went to Bear Claw Ranch for their picnic. Twenty-two classmates returned as Sophomores, and Pat Webb joined the group later in the year. Kim Forman moved to Miles City during the year and became a leading figure there. Connie Yellowtail and Tommy Sun Goes Slow also dropped out. Officers for the year were: President, Charlie Fellows; Vice President, Billy Shaw; Secretary-Treasurer, Helen Standish. Coach Likarich again acted as class sponsor. This year vengeance was gained as the new Freshies” were put through initiation. The class picnic was held at the picnic grounds at Story, Wyoming. The names on the roll call as Juniors numbered nineteen, but Jewel Medicine Horse, Robert Clark, and Darlene Paulsen dropped out during the year. Jack Ball, Jewel Medicine Horse, and Charlie Fellows were elected as class officers, and Carolee Redman was Student Council Representative. Class sponsor was Mr. Saylor. The class play, Drums of Death, was successfully presented under the direction of Mr. Black. A carnival theme was used for the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet. The class picnic was held in Tongue River Canyon. As Mighty Seniors, only seventeen faces were seen. Carole Lanier, who was missing during the Junior year, returned this year as Kay. Class officers were: President, Helen Standish; Vice President, Cloanna Wagenaar; Secretary-Treasurer, Shirley Green; Student Council Representative, Carolee Redman. Mr. Swedberg was class sponsor. Clementine, the Senior class play, was highly acclaimed, and everyone said that it was one of the best Lodge Grass had ever seen. Mr. Radtke directed it and supervised the make-up and scenery. A Leap Year Midwinter Ball was held in the grade school gym, and the decorations followed a Valentine theme. A high school talent show also highlighted the year. Both the girls' and boys' volleyball tournaments were won by the Seniors. Judge Richard Blaine presided over a very successful Kangaroo Court after which the Seniors went up the Dayton Kane Highway for their picnic. Lunches were eaten in the cars because of rain, but, with still undampened spirits, the class attended a show in Sheridan, Wyoming. On May 22nd, sixteen sad Seniors said good-bye to Lodge Grass High School, and as a last get-together took a trip to Sand Point and Couer d' Alene, Idaho. CLASS PROPHECY On October 31, 1967, we arrived at the Lodge Grass Grand Central Station, after receiving an invitation from a friend to attend a Halloween Scavenger party. The party started out with a BANG as we left on the scavenger hunt. The list of things we had to find was comparatively stiff but by stopping at the homes of local people we were certain they could be found. We had heard that Cloanna Wagenaar was a four-star general in the WACS, so we decided we might be able to find our first item, four stars, at her home. While there we met the former Shirley Green, now the wife of the minister of Lodge Grass Big Brown Church. Our next stop was at Lodge Grass Square Garden, where we consulted Mary Stevens, Woman Champion Bronc Rider, as to where we could obtain a horseshoe. Miss Stevens obligingly told us she would loan us one. As we had never seen Miss Stevens perform we decided to stay and watch her Death Dragging Act, which was ready to begin. While we were watching we gasped as she missed her footing and fell to the ground. After calling eight funeral parlors of Lodge Grass and discovering there were no ambulances available, we quickly borrowed General Wagenaar's jeep and rushed Miss Stevens to Lodge Grass Municipal Hospital, where, as we entered the door, we were admitted by the head nurse. Miss Colleen Barnes. After we had Miss Stevens resting quietly, we hurried after our next article, the original book by the former Cari Redman called The Lost Recipe Book. We knew the best way to get this astonishing book was by going straight to the author's home, but when we arrived we were informed by her set of triplets, Jackie, Mackie, and Bonaparte, that she was employed as a hash slinger at the exclusive restaurant. Jack's Juke Joint. Jack Ball, proprietor of this cafe, was also the local mayor. The next article on the list stumped us and we knew we would have a difficult time locating it. It was a silver tap from a dancing shoe. We knew we had to get started so we rushed to Lodge Grass Arthur Murray Dance Studio where we finally located the manager, but soon found he had loaned it to the notorious woman wrestler, Barbara White, who was taking up tap dancing lessons in her spare time, but to our chagrin. we found she, too, had loaned it to another local favorite, Emma Jean Sorger, world-famous mathematician, who had a hobby of collecting silver taps. We had a hard time convincing Miss Sorger that she should lend us the tap, but finally, after a great amount of persuasion, she relented and gave it to us.. After this successful move, we looked at our list. The next thing was a trombone mouthpiece. We knew we could get this easily by going to the famous night club, The Paradise Palace, owned and operated by Larry Whiteman. He knew the person we should go to was Helen Standish, popular singer and bandleader. Helen was gracious enough to give us the mouthpiece from her OWN trombone. Greatly satisfied, we hurried on for our next article, an original portrait painting by the world-renown artist and painter, Kay Lanier. While there she introduced us to her model, Charlie Fellows, who was the subject of Miss Lanier's original masterpiece, and who just finished sitting for another portrait. Victoriously, we began the search for our next treasure which was a Chanel No. 200 perfume bottle. Being unsuccessful after calling upon several homes, we finally learned that the local advisor to the lovelorn, Miss Betty Moore, was a passionate user of the perfume. Much to our dismay Miss Moore did not have this bottle on hand but told us that we could purchase it by going to the Lodge Grass Woman’s Lingerie and Perfume Shop, owned and operated by THE Richard Blaine. Thinking we had completed our list, we rushed back to the party to find we were the first :o return. After we had our list checked, it was found that the most important object had been overlooked, which was a shroud, the winding sheet used to wrap around a corpse. We were fortunate the town undertaker, Bill Shaw, better known as Dig-Me O'Shaw, the Friendlier Undertaker, lived only a block away. He promptly gave us the shroud and we hurried back to the party. Much to our surprise we found we were still the first to complete our list----------------------and the WINNERS 1! ! Our prize was two theater tickets to the highly advertised movie, That's My Boy, starring Dean Martin and Billy Gross, the famous comic team. The party finally over, we departed with anxiety, and now, we are looking forward to that free show tomorrow night. .
