Twelve years of cooperative effort on the part of you and your teachers have resulted in your attaining one of the important goals in life. It is not to be considered a stopping place, but merely a pause wherein you may take stock of your interests, abilities, and personal characteristics in order to determine the next suitable course of action in your career. Do not under-estimate what education has done for you. While you have been acquiring academic knowledge you have also been learning how to become a better member of a democratic society. Today, when so many values are being questioned, it is well to remember that personal integrity and moral trustworthiness are traits which will always contribute to the making of a good citizen. Where our hearts will be forever. Where our lives have gone so fast. Nestles our little town of Lodge Grass. With heads held high and smiling faces. The Seniors of '51 go into the World to take their places. And here we would like to present each one. To show our talents and what we have done. Jack, broad shouldered, handsome and tall. One smile from him, and all the girls fall. Here we present our young Jack Chatham In football games he's up and at 'em. She's a girl with remarkable poise. A HIT SHE MAKES WITH BOTH GIRLS AND BOYS'. Ethel never gives up when things go wrong. She'll go through life, singing a song. HE'S AN UNPREDICTABLE LAD, Sometimes he's good and sometimes he's bad! On the basketball floor, he's rated pretty high. We're proud of you, Harley, and that's no lieI Harold nanto is smart as he can be when it comes to algebra and chemistry, HE’S USUALLY TEASING MOST OF THE TIME, But someday he'll quiet down and earn a dime. WE HAVE A GIRL WHO HAS PERSONALITY PLUS, She's a friend who means a lot to us. Barbara Nayes, willing to lend a hand. Will be a great scholar of our land. Paul Wiley, whom we all know. Has plenty of friends where'er he may go. He seems to be doing okay with his girl. But who wouldn't with that smart little curl. Donna Landon is another of our senior gang. At school and parties she's really a bang'. She's caused many a boy's heart to skip a beat. And we all think she is mighty sweet. Always the pest and thetease of this group It's Dale Curry who's always in the soup, And this is every school girl's demand. Not to get a seat in front of him in band. So SHORT AND SLIGHT, WITH HER MERRY GRIN, Doris helps us all, through thick and thin. Brains like hers we can't surpass, She's the shortest of the Senior Class. He's quiet and shy with not much to say. But obstacles never block his way, Lyle Shick is swell on a basketball floor. Of fellows like him, we could use more. We've found Mary Ruth is the artist of our class. Her drawing and sketching not one can surpass. She's clever and skillful and full of fun. And when it comes to studies she's not a bit dumb. SO TALL AND SLIM WITH HIS MERRY GRIN, Doug helps us all through thick and thin. Character like his we can't surpass. He's the president of the Senior Class. We grow prouder still of Don Glumbik each day. We know he'll go places with his winning way. On the Football field he certainly shines. He'll surely win fame in some future lines. Our classmate. Jack Stevens, a winsome young lad. Always happy and cheerful, and never is bad, yes, we think he is simply 0.K. WE WOULDN'T TRADE HIM FOR ANYONE, ANYWAY. A WONDERFUL VOICE AND ALWAYS A SMILE, Don Foltz is really a friend that's worth while. Back to Wyola he'll go when this is all o'er Return to Lodge Grass? Oh no, nevermore! Mow you've met us, one and all. UNDER LIFE'S BURDENS WE SHALL NOT FALL, But we'll each shoulder our load And go singing our way down life's road. Paul Wiley Jack Chatham Doug. Cl an i n CLASS HISTORY OF 195 1 IN THE SPRING OF 1947 TWENTY-FIVE BEWILDERED, MEEK, UNCONFIDENT Freshmen entered the halls of Lodge Grass High School, we WENT THROUGH THE USUAL TORTURE OF INITIATION FROM THE SOPHOMORES AND TO OUR SURPRISE, LIVED! OUR PRESIDENT WAS DONNA LANDON; VICE- PRESIDENT, Ethel Williams; and secretary and treasurer, Harley Hamilton. Our sponsor for the year was Mr. Nile Walker. We had a VERY SUCCESSFUL BAND PARTY HALLOWEEN AT MRS. STEVENSON'S. THE Wolf Mountains was the site for our class picnic. This year we WERE GIVEN OUR FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE JUN I 0R-SEN I 0R PROM. As Sophomores our president was Barbara nayes with Don Foltz and Mary Ruth Wolf as helpers. We had the glory of initiating the POOR FRESHMEN AND ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH. WE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH TIME TO FOOL AROUND THIS YEAR BUT WE DID MANAGE TO TAKE SECOND PLACE IN THE TRACK MEET. WE VENTURED TO THE WYOMING FISH HATCHERY NEAR STORY, WYOMING ON OUR PICNIC. When we congregated as Juniors we found we had only 22 members OF OUR ORIGINAL CLASS. WE PRESENTED OUR FIRST CLASS PLAY ENTITLED A Husband for Sale. We must admit it was a very successful production. A Halloween party also highlighted the year. In THE SPRING OF 1950 WE DECORATED THE GYM FOR THE JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM. Our theme was Stardust and the gym was very effectively done WITH SPARKLING STARS AND A REVOLVING LIGHT SYSTEM. THIS YEAR WE ALSO WALKED OFF WITH FIRST PLACE IN THE TRACK MEET. OUR OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR WERE DON FOLTZ, MARY RUTH WOLF, AND DALE CURRY. OUR CLASS SPONSOR AND PLAY DIRECTOR WAS MR. HERMAN WEIS. Before we realized it we were in the middle of our Senior year. Our students numbered fifteen and our officers were Douglas Clanin, Paul Wiley, and Ethel Williams. Some of our main events were: numerous school parties, our football homecoming, our play (which we successfully put on in the spring of 1951), the Junior-Senior prom and Banquet, Senior Day (when we visited the business houses of Billings), our class picnic, kangaroo court, and last OF ALL--GRADUAT ION. WE, AS SENIORS, ALSO WENT THROUGH THE USUAL HEADACHES OF EDITING THE SCHOOL PAPER AND ANNUAL. AS WE LEAVE THE HALLS OF LODGE GRASS HIGH SCHOOL WE TAKE WITH US MANY HAPPY MEMORIES AND REGRET THAT OUR FOUR YEARS HERE HAVE GONE BY SO SWIFTLY. CLASS WILL OF 195 1 We, the Senior Class of 1951, being of sound mind and judgment, AND FREE FROM ANY AND ALL INFLUENCES OF ALCOHOL, MR. SWEDBERG, AND OTHER INFLUENCES DO HEREBY MAKE OUR LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT TO THE faculty, classes, and students of Lodge Grass High School. 1. TO THE FACULTY WE BEQUEATH THE UNHAPPY PROSPECT OF MANAGING THE SCHOOL AND ITS ACTIVITIES WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE SENIORS. 2. TO THE JUNIORS WE BEQUEATH OUR ABILITY TO BLOW HUGE BUBBLES DURING JOURNALISM CLASS. WE ALSO BEQUEATH OUR SUPREME ABILITY TO PUBLISH THE SCHOOL PAPER AND ANNUAL AND HOPE THEY HAVE AS MUCH WORK AS WE DID. 3. To the Sophomores we bequeath the patience and ability to put on the junior play and prom. 4. To the Freshmen we bequeath the patience and endurance it TAKES TO BECOME A SENIOR AND NOT TO BE TOO HARD ON THE FRESHIES NEXT YEAR. 5. The Seniors as individuals will their own abilities and skills TO THE MEEK AND LOW INDIVIDUALS OF L.G.H.S. JACK STEVENS WILLS HIS GIGGLES TO BLANCHE FOWLER AND HOPES SHE CAN ATTRACT AS MUCH ATTENTION AS HE DID. Jack Chatham wills his shoulders and center position in football to Mick Stevens. Barbara Nayes bequeaths her letter writing to R.m. College to ANYONE WHO CAN KEEP UP THE DAILY EDITION. PAUL WILEY WILLS ABILITY TO GET ALONG WITH TEACHERS TO HARLAN Barnes. Lyle Shick wills his ability to come late to class to Carolee Redman . Ethel Williams bequeaths her ability to corner boys behind the JOURNALISM DOOR TO JANET CHATHAM AND HOPES SHE CAN KEEP UP HER GOOD WORK. Don Foltz wills his crew cuts to Emma Jean Sorger and sincerely HOPES THE HAIR WON’T GET IN HER EYES. DOUG CLANIN WILLS HIS DROP KICKING TO GARY CURRY. Donna Landon wills her athletic ability and muscles to Duane Roth and hopes he puts them to good use. Dale Curry wills his teasing talent to Billy Gross. Harley Hamilton leaves his curly hair to Mr. Swedberg and hopes he can keep it. Mary Ruth Wolf wills six inches of her height to next year's basketball team. Harold Nanto wills his snooper ability to Cloanna wagenaar. Don Glumbik wills his sow legs and boots to Tom Conroy. Doris Criswell bequeaths her ability to hold her temper to Jack Ball and hopes he can stand as much teasing as she did. CLASS PROPHECY OF 195 1 WE, the class of nineteen hundred fifty-one, LOOK 20 YEARS AHEAD TO SEE WHERE AND HOW EACH OF OUR FORMER CLASS MEMBERS ARE. AS WE ARE WAITING FOR OUR PLANE AT WYOLA MUNICIPAL AIRPORT, WHO SHOULD WE CHANCE TO MEET BUT THE PILOT OF THE PLANE, LYLE Shick. He makes a mighty fine pilot, too. As OUR TRIP GOT UNDERWAY, AND WE WERE ENGROSSED IN OUR MAGAZINES ONE OF THE PASSENGERS SPOKE. WE RECOGNIZED HIM AS DOUGLAS Clanin and his pardners. Jack Chatham and Jack Stevens, who had RECENTLY TAKEN OVER THE WYOMING HEREFORD RANCH (WHR). THEY WERE ENROUTE TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO ATTEND A HEREFORD STOCK SHOW. Due to an electrical storm we were forced to land at Chicago. AS WE WALKED INTO A RESTAURANT WE IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZED DON FOLTZ, OWNER AND OPERATOR OF THE FOLTZ TRANSPORT COMPANY. OUR BIGGEST SURPRISE CAME WHEN THE CHEF HIMSELF CAME TO WAIT ON US. IT WAS Dale Curry, one of the best cooks in Chicago. After much delay we arrived in Washington. As we stepped off THE PLANE, WE WERE GREETED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, Harley Hamilton and Paul Wiley, a five star general, the MacArthur OF TODAY. After visiting at the White House we decided to take a stroll DOWNTOWN. By coincident we met Harold nanto, president of the C.B. 0. Railroad who informed us that he had bought tickets to the Army- Navy FOOTBALL GAME. UPON ARRIVING AT THE GAME WE MET COACH DON Glumbik of Army. That evening we attended the yearly President's Ball at the White House, we heard the famous All-American Band under the direction of Donna Landon. while at the ball we met another one of OUR CLASSMATES, ETHEL WILLIAMS, NOTED DRAMATIC TEACHER AT YALE University. AS WE WERE WALKING BACK TO THE AIRPORT FOR OUR FLIGHT BACK TO New York we bumped into a pedestrian and were so surprised to see it was Mary Ruth Wolf. She informed us she was on a sight-seeing tour of Washington for winning top honors as bronco rider at the annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. Much to our sorrow our vacation is ended and I, Barbara nayes, EDITOR OF THE NEW YORK TIMES, AND DORIS CRISWELL, MY PRIVATE SECRETARY, MUST BOARD THE PLANE FOR NEW YORK IN TIME TO GET OUR PAPER printed for Miss Shepherd's journalism class, Monday, September 6, 1971 .
